Yeah, I remember back when I was playing 1 D&D session way back where it was revealed somehow that I hadn't read the hobbit yet was still playing D&D. One of my friends was standing on his seat, pointing a finger at my face, and yelling, "Blasphemer! Heretic! Unclean!"

I think I hadn't read the books when I started playing D&D, but I'm pretty sure I had seen the LorR movies so I went in expecting a Middle-Earth setting; said expectations were promptly shattered since we were playing in Eberron good times, good times.

And one of these days when my PbP schedule opens up a bit I need to see if anyone one here would run an Eberron campaign. Pulp-style fantasy tickles my fancy in all the right ways.

All these are old nature spirits who were probably worshiped at some day or another. Alfvar (elves) in Nordic mythology were similar to the Faerie of Ireland - lived under mounds and had to be placated on a regular basis. The Erlkönig, OTOH, is an entirely different creature - he is completely malign. Etc.

Most of the lore is 3.5-based with my own twists thrown in. I am aware of the older myths and legends surrounding elves and the like, though not erinyes.

First of all, was that final comment necessary? I think you may be taking this way to seriously if you think that someone pointing out that the origin of erynes doesn't have to do anything with the comic, means they don't have "adequately functioning frontal lobes". Seems unnecessarily antagonistic and downright rude.

The story of the erinyes is bound up with that of Agamemnon and the Trojan War. Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia to get good winds for his fleet. For vengeance, his wife Clytemnestra kills him when he comes home. His son Orestes is caught in a double bind - either kill his mother or let his father's murder go unpunished, unthinkable for a Greek. He kills his mother, but the gods of vengeance - the erinyes - pursue him and drive him mad. In the end, Athena persuades the erinyes to stop tormenting Orestes. In return, they get a permanent home, they are now cthonic gods of justice in Athens. They are especially keen to punish oath-breakers.

Edited this post on the internet forum topic called "Murphy's Law X" in order to add the following to my post: Who needs acronyms anyway? ETA just sounds like "oh, due to your slow internet, your post on the forum will arrive in eight minutes. Please wait..."

I know that sometimes, the hero has to play baccarat with the enemy, even though logically it would make more sense for them to just be trying to kill each other. What I don't know is how to play baccarat.

I usually just say "edit" or something.

And if you're all wondering where the updates are (since I am too): what happens to all the work you put aside to do applications once you submit those applications? If you guessed, "It's all due at once," then congrats! You thought things through more than I did.

Basically the rest of this month is gonna suck but things should be a bit better afterwards.

Thanks, Mantas! Still playing catchup (with a new snowpile every Monday) but the load's definitely gotten smaller. To tide things over, here's a map of Runite and its districts! It's from the game Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise which I'm DMing over in the pbp forum here, so it's about 100 years old but the boundaries haven't changed too much.

Radic's from The Heights in case you're wondering.
