    Default Spirits in Steel

14:00 hours, The Pelican - HOLY Stealth Transport

The Pelican, as named by Captain Yuri Sarkov, was a large transport plane. Bright white in color, with glowing blue strips along it, supposedly for the experimental engine on it. This was a ship using Module Technology for all purposes, and it was being used as a facility to train new members of HOLY. It had three floors to it, with the middlemost being the personal quarters, and small cafeteria, as the upper layer remained the command tower, and the lower layer held the massive hanger the ship stored its modules in. It was extremely impressive by any standpoint, if... somewhat understaffed. Yuri's own hopes for it might well be ambiguous.

The man, himself, would find himself in his usual fortune. Not only was his new ship an air transport, rather than the standard submarine any other person of his rank would work from. Not only were his new recruits almost completely inept at Module piloting. Not only was he standing at the bridge of his small ship with only the pilot and his superior, receiving what would likely be the annoying briefing he'd ever had the displeasure to stand through. No, all that would have been perfectly acceptable, if there hadn't been a flash of mega particles large and bright enough to be seen from the Sea of Japan.

    Spoiler: Yuri
    Show

Lt Cdr Amatore has actually been much more accommodating than Yuri had expected. While out with her men from the Hibashira, she'd been extremely strict, but once they were alone, she seemed more annoyed than problematic. During the briefing, the massive particle light had nearly knocked them both over the shock wave of it hitting the ground. It appeared to have originated from above the clouds, close to the HOLY base in Okinawa. Due to the threat, Amatore ordered Yuri to make use of the supersonic engines, and get to that location. She would then move to the hanger, taking her own aerial transport to return to the Sea of Japan. She'd leave the briefing of the situation to Yuri. As part of the move towards this ship, the Special Operations Bureau placed Yuri as Gebo 2, second in command of all Special Operations, only reporting under Amatore herself.

    Spoiler: Felicia
    Show

After making her case to HOLY, Lt Cdr Amatore agreed to Felicia's request. Explaining that they would be moving to a training team, the pair, along with a small squad of HOLY's marines used a transport to meet with The Pelican. After a brief introduction, Felicia was told to mingle by the woman, as she went to have a private conversation with the Captain of the advanced ship. She's been given the rank of Private, and the assignment of the Hagoromo Zero.

    Spoiler: Malika & Akira
    Show

Part of Yuri's starting crew, Malika and Akira have both been serving with the man for two weeks now. The ship was extremely strange in just how comfortable it was. Not like the military ships they'd been on before at all. Yuri's reputation of being a jinx was known, but they'd yet to see much different from any of their other commanders. As part of The Pelican's crew they were assigned to HOLY's special operations, using ranks Gebo 6 and 5 respectively for Malika and Akira. Akira's skills moved him a step higher, receiving the rank of Corporal and the Hagoromo Plus. Malika, on the other hand was promoted to Private, First Class, in addition to being given a specialized Geist for her use.

After Amatore boarded their ship, she would introduce Felicia as a junior pilot to be added to the roster.

    Spoiler: Saki
    Show

Saki would find herself in a rough spot. After her successful collection of the Jinketsu, she was rushing to the surface of the hidden cycle, the elevator appearing too pierce right through the earth, and granting Saki sight over everything that had happened. Apparently a massive wave of energy had attempted to drive down right into the lake, but some kind of defenses protected the facility from direct impact. It still affected the area, of course. Taiki was sprawled along the ground, trying to pick himself up as he looked up, and then back to the lake, darting towards it.

The interface of the Jinketsu would light up with warnings, as a silvery looking Module crashed into the barrier from across the lake. A single red eye glowing from its head, as a knife appeared, slowly wedging the field apart enough to get inside.

"Majienar, Fralian unit at 180 degree. Jinketsu armament is damaged. Rerouting power, opening energy receptors. Majienar, Jinketsu is now combat ready. Falian unit appears to be bypassing the tertiary defensive field. Destroy it with great prejudice."

Saki Amatore, the Girl Who Would Shoot Wildly
    Piloting the Deathbot (Jinketsu)

--- Now Playing on Deathbot Radio - Saki's Theme ---

As the Jinketsu burst through the surface of the Earth, Saki would cry out in surprise. "Yaaah...!" The force of the sudden stoppage would catch her offguard, and she'd stumble forward in the cockpit, the Jinketsu doing much the same. As she'd straighten, taking in the scene, Saki would grin, eyes shining. "This is... this is so cool...! I can blow that up with extreme prejudice, you got it~" And she'd raise her right arm to shoot, the Jinketsu doing the same, before frowning a bit, glaring at the target. "Uh... weapons? What weapons does the Deathbot have?" But that had apparently been enough, as two eye beams of death and destruction would pierce the air between them in super heroic fashion, heading right for the mech she'd been glaring at, while a huge missile would suddenly fly from the Jinketsu's arm. "Uh... whoops?"

Captain Yuri Sarkov, The Vanguard of Storms
Pilot of AM-3/G3 "Gebo 3 Type"

In a fairly spacious meeting room, largely dominated by a single, round table, Yuri Sarkov stood apart from it.

The massive commander of the Gebo Squad shifted slightly in place as he looked over the team. His scowl only deepened, accentuating the stark lines of his face. His long coat and heavy piloting armor made surprisingly little sound as he moved, perhaps muffled for better stealth performance. His officer's cap was worn just high enough for his grey eyes to be seen.

As he speaks, his Russian accent is impossible to miss, though his enunciation is good enough to prevent any misunderstanding.

"....Greetings, Gebo Squad. I am your new commander. You shall address me as Captain Sarkov, or Gebo 2 when engaged in combat. When in combat, your responsibilities are to follow orders, without question. Mine are to get all of you out of combat alive, and, if possible, extract myself as well.

At present, we are approaching the site of a large emission of mega particles. The cause is presently unknown. However, it is possible that this indicates a new Heroic Module. If so, our task is to prevent it from falling into irresponsible hands.

The task may be beyond your training. However, we are the only HOLY operatives in this area, so it falls upon us to investigate. I will not permit failure.

...Since we are not presently in combat, I will now field questions."

A pair of violet beams flew from the Jinketsu's eyes as the strange module whipped its body around, as the beams dug through the armor, tearing at the head and torso, leaving warped metal, as the massive rocket launched. The module evaded the blunt impact, as the explosion engulfed the entire area, Stopping a bit short of the Jinketsu itself. However, this strange module would not seem deterred, as flipped back to its feet, and suddenly started racing forward. Apparently using some kind of wheels or treading to move. And it was fast... light, fast, and apparently able to be somewhat survivable, despite having three chunks missing from the head, body, and left leg.

A hand would rise, as the arm opened up a chamber to reveal a contained rifle, firing at the Jinketsu. Saki wasn't able to react in time, she was still too new at this. Her arms came up as a reaction, as the shell flew through the Jinketsu's right arm. The impact itself wasn't much, but Saki's poor control allowed a rather critical blow to be made towards the Jinketsu's interior.

    Corporal Tachibana Akira, Prodigy
    Pilot of DM-1P

Knew what had happened almost as soon as it had occurred, his face pressed to the closest viewing port he could find so that he could observe the discharge for himself. It was a relic of his former life as the knowledge he had earned in school rattled around in his mind, and would have fascinated him without end had he still been a civilian. Unfortunately, his wonder was quickly shoved aside as his mind began to race once more, this time with the implications as to what could have caused such a thing. It was a matter of protocol what would happen next, and because of that Akira quickly made his way out of the room to the meeting room.

    --

He had arrived moments before their commander, standing at attention with his hair tied behind his back into a pony tail as he listed to the man speak. Akira was hardly as imposing or intimidating as the man before him, standing at a simple 5'2" and with a fairly petite figure it was hard to imagine at all that he was a soldier. The Russian Accent was a tad off putting but Akira knew better than to question it. HOLY Was an independent operator, so it wasn't overly surprising that they would pick up a few ruskies along the way. His face was stoic as he listened to the Captain give his speech -- get them out alive, that was something of a joke in his mind as the reputation of their commander had far preceded him. Hardly anyone seemed to get out of service beneath that man 'alive', though Akira did have the notion of being the first to prove him wrong.

There was only one question that Akira could think up, and he didn't hesitate to ask it.

"Sir, with a particle emission of that size...what is our course of action if the source of it is a Heroic Module and it proves to be...less than friendly? Do we move to contain and capture, or simply kill?"

Whatever it was that had released those emissions was clearly capable of exerting an extreme amount of power, and that made it inherently dangerous. While Akira did not know what they were dealing with exactly, he was more than aware of what kind of damage that kind of energy could do if it was put toward more sinister purposes. The fact that it had nearly tipped their transport at such a distance was cause enough to be worried about what it might do if they got close enough.

Sarkov glanced at Akira, and the room seemed to darken.

"...A wise question, Corporal. If we cannot communicate, or otherwise must combat a hostile Heroic Module, then we move to kill. We have neither the precision equipment nor the manpower required to safely attempt a capture. As such, our focus would be on preventing the equipment from falling into the wrong hands."

--- Now Playing on Deathbot Radio - Saki's Theme ---

"Woah." Saki's eyes would widen in surprise as the huge missile made a suitably huge explosion... The subsequent movement and attack by the Fralian mecha didn't even shake Saki, the shot hitting the still raised right arm without any reaction at all from the startled girl. "So... so strong...! But... better not fire one of those again or Taiki might get hurt..." The girl would lower the raised right arm, thinking of the boy in the water some ways behind her. A small screen had popped up, showing her the damage the Jinketsu had suffered, which conveniently displayed her available weapon systems. But of course, she was too busy for that right now! As Saki moved the Jinketsu forward, she'd glare once again at the damaged Fralian mecha, the eye beams firing twice...

Felicia West leans forward in her seat, resting her hand on her helmet as she digests this information. "Mm... so assuming that it is a Heroic Module, do we know anything about what its capabilities could be?"

She glances out the window again, even though it was the wrong angle and distance to see anything of note. Despite being a member of HALO, she was still quite new at the whole mecha piloting business, and often worried about how well she would do in an actual combat situation. Of course, if the particle emission was a Heroic Module, this would be an opportunity to test that out.

Sarkov turned to Felicia, and spread his hands.

To date, Heroic Modules have tended to be large, unwieldy, but extremely powerful machines. Assault Modules will likely have a maneuverability advantage, and a firepower and armor disadvantage. Beyond that, there is no intelligence that we have been provided, aside from the strength of the mega particle emission that we are tracking.

The Pelican would find itself screaming with alarm, as it rushed through the skies. The command structure would turn red, as the comms lit up with the navigational officer's voice. "Attention, Captain Sarkov. The HALO is picking up three unknown module present directly ahead of us. They are clearly normal modules, but they don't fit the criteria of Japanese build. They seem to be a new type, and... they are flying, sir. Though they can't match our speed, they seem to by flying towards the incident as well. DSS seems to be holding, we haven't been detected yet."

Saki, meanwhile, would find herself amused. The beams would fly, as they simply cut the center of the weird module to shreds, causing a weird blue colored explosion as it was destroyed. However, this was far from over, as Saki would turn her head, seeing three more figures simply dropping from the sky. The barrier was clearly down now...

Sarkov listened intently, and then nodded, activating the intercom built into the meeting table.

"In that case, hold to our present course. Inform me of any indication that these craft have noticed us. Collect as much data as possible without compromising stealth or speed, and provide Private Ayda with all readouts concerning the unknown craft."

He glanced at the silent final member of the Gebo Squad, as he shut the intercom back off.

"You were not brought aboard for your piloting skills, Ayda," he growled, "so I expect full support. Reports as soon as possible. Once all useful information has been extracted, move to your Module."

His gaze then swept around the room.

"The rest of us will move to our Modules immediately, to be prepared to scramble at first indication of hostile intent. Gebo Squad, move out."

"Powerplant...online," Felicia murmurs to herself, running through the prelaunch checklists. "Thrusters online. Servos online. Weapons online. DSS online. EWS online. All systems green. Hagoromo Zero is ready for duty."

Confident in her ability to get into the air at a moment's notice, the English girl leans back in her seat and grins, flipping on her stereo system to a (relatively) soft volume to speak to the rest of Gebo Squad in a chipper voice. "So how is everyone today?"

The flying modules wouldn't seem to divert course, even as The Pelican passed them, if only briefly. They could see it now. A Heroic Module at the center of it of course. A massive titan, casually fighting three strange looking modules. All except the far one seeming to resemble the ones they had only just passed.

Meanwhile, the Jinketsu wouldn't even shudder as the massive auto cannon tore into the smaller module. Massive shells bashing into it, as it was sent flying backwards and onto its back, before exploding into a bright yellow cloud, as its powerplant was utterly destroyed. Despite this rather gruesome destruction, it wouldn't seem to deter either of its companions. One of the modules closed in, right to the Jinketsu's front, as its hand morphed into that of a drill, buzzing around loudly. It clearly wanted the torso, but Saki's reaction placed her left arm between the drill and the Jinketsu's main body, almost completely absorbing the impact, so much that the little module reformed its hand to dig the drill out and return to a normal hand.

The more heavily armed and amored machine would raise its primary weapon as it closed, a large cannon, leveling it on the Heroic Module as it fired, a massive shell leaving the railgun, only for the Jinketsu to duck, as Saki made the motion herself, an explosion resounding in the far end of the lake behind her.

Captain Yuri Sarkov, The Vanguard of Storms
Pilot of AM-3/G3 "Gebo 3 Type"

Yuri remained in the cockpit, waiting for the tactical readout. However, as he took in the scene below, he found, rather suddenly, that he did not need it. He stared down at the image of the large module engaging the unknown Heroic, and his eyes hardened. He turned on his speakers.

"....Gebo Squad, the forces engaging the unknown Heroic Module are confirmed terrorist units. We will engage in defense of the Heroic Module, and recover it after driving off these vultures. Provide support fire, and stay away from the large unit. It is highly dangerous in melee, and well-armored; I shall handle it. Pelican, take us in."

With that, Yuri returned to silence, until the maximum safe paradrop altitude had been reached. Then, with a groan of metal and a whir of engines, the Gebo 3 Type Geist stood, and walked for the steadily-opening hangar door.

    "Gebo Squad, launch."

With that, the Gebo 3 Type simply...fell off the edge, spinning in midair, cloaking making it seem like a simple blur in the air, until it reached the earth, smashing into it with a titanic crash. Still hard to make out, Gebo 3 stood from a 3-point crouch, and Yuri spoke over his loudspeakers.

"Pilot of Unknown Module, this is U.N. Task Force Zeta. We shall assist you in driving off these units."

Akira had his doubts on the viability of not considering the heroic module as a threat to their safety considering the fiasco they were witnessing, but at the same time Akira had relative confidence in the judgment of his superior officer and in the end it wasn't exactly up to him how things went, anyways. While he didn't see the wisdom in being forced to engage in the distance, Akira knew that his Hagoromo Plus was still more than capable at fighting at a distance as it equipped the Hachiman.

    "Tachibana Akira, DM-1P, ikimasu."

With that his Hagoromo Plus dropped from the Pelican, the more aerodynamic module having a far more graceful descent than the Geist would have, the machine eventually touching down. Akira took a breath as he surveyed the situation carefully while he immediately assumed a more supportive posture a distance away from Gebo 3 and the terrorists, ready to engage them at the distance with the Hachiman as he focused in on basically the target that he would have the clearest shot on.

--- Now Playing on Deathbot Radio - Saki's Theme ---

That autocannon sure was amazing. It completely chewed through that guy! Saki would grin as she ducked the incoming weapon fire from the back Module, leaving only the forearm of the Jinketsu mildly scratched from that drill thing. "Don't you think you're just a little too close?" She'd take a single step closer to the Fralian unit in melee with her, the Jinketsu responding in kind, as Saki would draw the Shinzui in the right hand of the Jinketsu, slashing at the Fralian twice.

As she attacked, she'd take a quick glance up as new contacts appeared on radar? HOLY? ...Crap. Uh... well, it wasn't like she could hide something like this... Better just... pretend it wasn't her...

A brilliant flash of violet light, as the massive torrent of energy erupted from Jinketsu's hand, before quickly slashing downwards. Hand held beam weapons were still difficult for an assault module, but the Jinketsu made it look so easy, a a purely self contained beam of violet light, not a hilt in sight, seeming to be projected from the hand itself. This blade would tear through the Fralian in a single movement, as the Gebo Squad descended upon the battlefield. All that seemed to remain was the strange module, already moving to the south, as its massive cannon took aim on the Jinketsu. However, Saki's piloting skills were clearly improving, narrowly evading that round as well.

To the north, the remaining two modules that had been seen before were closing, high in the sky as they neared the action.

Yuri's grip on the controls tightened as the larger foe rushed away, notably faster than the Geist could keep up with.

"Zero, Plus, remain away from that machine's firing arc. Handle the incoming foes to the north."

With that, Yuri began to advance, the Geist drawing one of the pistols at its side, and delivering two precise shots at weak-looking points in the larger foe's armor. In addition, the grand machine drew a large sword from its side, the blade's edge beginning to whir....

    Corporal Tachibana Akira, Prodigy
    Pilot of DM-1P

"Yare yare...." The exasperated voice of Akira sounded off, the male giving a sigh as his Hagoromo glanced upwards at the enemies. "Looks like engaging at range isn't going to be an option this time...Sorry boss." He found himself thinking as he deftly manipulated the controls, changing his stance toward a more melee oriented posture....He always thought fighting at range a bit tactless, anyways.

The Hagoromo Plus would ascend at speed as Akira assumed a stance similar to one that someone would take if they were charging into battle with a Katana, the Module's thrusters kicking into overdrive as he charges straight for the enemy in his line of sight. The boss wanted him to leave the big guy to him, so Akira would have to settle for these guys.

"Waga Hachiman ni tatenu mono nashi!" He would shout just before committing to the attack, giving a resounding "CHESTO!" As he brought the Hachiman to bear upon the enemy.

--- Now Playing on Deathbot Radio - Saki's Theme ---

"Gotcha." Saki would smile in satisfaction as the Jinketsu cleaved the Fralian in twain, before she yelped a bit in surprise, ducking as the massive shell flew where the Jinketsu's head had once been. "You want to go boom too, huh?" Saki would rush the Jinketsu forward, oblivious to the Gebo squad's plan.

The massive module would run across the lakeside, Saki grinning all the while as the big machine cleared the ground in only several steps. "Here... we go!" The Jinketsu's legs would suddenly lower, the girl feinting a quick slash with the Shinzui before the Jinketsu would suddenly leap. "Saki-chan KICK!" And it'd go horizontal as she'd attempt to drop kick the Fralian II with the Jinketsu...

"Got it!" Felicia turned her sleek mecha away from the Heroic module and glanced down at the sensor information about the two flying enemies. She began to run some calculations in her head, noting the lead pilot's trajectory and distance. With no warning, she launched her own Zero into a dead run on an intercept course, engaging the thrusters and the boosters simultaneously to leap up next to the enemy right as it passed by her.

Her blade flashed out of its sheathe, an arc of razor-sharp four-ton metal directed against the enemy's head.

Morc, in the house rules I disabled the ability for melee to get free called shots. Amusingly enough, you rolled a Head on your target list.

Kuro, maybe these guys aren't evil! Maybe they are Capitalists~

Sucrose, you forgot that your MP pool was high enough to grant a free action. I'll move you closer to the action.

Yuri would close, as his beam spray hit the arm of the heavily armored Fralian unit. However, little effect would be shown. It was actually the Jinketsu that revealed the machine wasn't quite as tough as it thought. Charging for a massive kick, the powerful Module's weight and momentum crashed into the Fralian, sending it flying backwards and into the ground, a clear cavity in the center of it. Still, it wasn't yet gone, if clearly stunned for a moment.

The Hagoromo's would swiftly charge their enemies, as the Zero slashed right through its enemy's head, decapitating the Module. In unison, and with much bravado, the Plus would dash towards the other enemy, the Hachiman slowing as it dug into the torso, before slicing clean through, tearing the Fralian into two pieces, falling helplessly to the Earth. The remaining flying type moved to return the favor, drawing a dagger, but without its sensors, it seemed to have suffered accuracy, easily missing the Zero.

PFC Jane Smith would find herself stalking a strange black Module that was seeming to be somewhat casually skating down the high speed road. Wheels clearly upon the feet of the unit, it didn't seem to notice a pursuit, moving at a steady pace. As the signs of battle became clear, however, it would suddenly jerk forward, moving quite quickly, and taking off into the grass. They would get quite close, before the unit simply stopped up ahead. Jane would get a chance to activate the hidden module on the truck she was driving, as five strange new modules burst from all around the signs of combat, clearly having been burrowing underground, but sprawling out, resembling tanks. Still, the black module, the strange ones in the sky, the heavily armored one... they all looked to be of a similar set. Though this newest one was clearly some kind of upgraded type.

Yuri blinked, then gritted his teeth as several new units came up on radar.

An ambush....just like them. But how did they know that this Module would surface here? Why didn't they take it?

He shook his head. Regardless of reason, they were here, now. And that meant that strategy would have to shift.

"Good work, Hagoromos. Dispatch the last flier, and then attack the foe to the Northeast. Work together, and bring it down. We do not want them picking us off, so it will be necessary to keep pressure upon them, but try to minimize contact with enemies that you are not attacking.

Gebo 6, keep away from the enemy forces until I arrive. These machines are good. They are not invincible."

    "Geez....That one's still up?"

Akira mused to himself as he spun the Hagoromo Plus about, the Hachiman being flipped to change toward its primary firing mode as he took aim toward the remaining flying unit, waiting until his sights lined up. "Guess I'll have to take it down, as well." He mused before squeezing the trigger, firing the Hachiman toward the Fralian that had lost its head.
