Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
What is this craziness? I remember when everyone would loudly yell that the meetup should be in their city. Now everyone refuses to host.
Actually as I recall it was Strawberries' idea, because northern winters were too cold for her Italian blood.
I would consider playing 5th ed, but not 4th."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
The main purpose was actually to drag Southerner people to Scotland, which happened. Despite the Italian blood, I cope better with the cold than the heat.
I'm not opposed at all to a winter meetup in the North. Now, before I nominate Snowfire or Ku as organisers (which would be Very Silly North, although I'd still be up for it) anyone else at all?Last edited by Strawberries; 2014-10-26 at 02:46 PM.

I think we still haven't had someone step up to be a host, which is the issue.

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
Money, unfortunately. But one year... one year I'll go travelling the world...
so... anyone able to host? I've made enquiries around Leicester Uni and while I could potentially get rooms at the university again it'd probably be difficult and would be very last minute bookings rather than being certain of rooms early enough for people to book rooms to stay in. Things seem to have got more annoying for booking rooms in the past few years...
If I have the energy at the end of this week (coursework deadlines...eep) I could do some enquiries at nearby pubs for function rooms."I'm just going on motive and opportunity here and the fact that if the earth got swallowed by a black hole, I'd look suspiciously in your direction first."

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
OK, well so far only five people filled in the table, which is less than we'd generally want to make a definite decision on. And the possible venues brought up were that we could go London again, Newcastle again or maybe Leicester again? But nothing concrete for any of them. So any further possibilities, please speak up, and please fill in the table:
Date 29/11 6/12 13/12 20/12 27/12 3/1 10/1 17/1 24/1 31/1 Archie p p p p p p p p p p Thufir p p p p pn p p p p p Ku n n n n n p p N p p Snow p p p p pn p p p p p Minion p p p p p p p p p p
Now, I'm going to make a list of UK Playgrounders who might be interested but haven't posted, and send out a mass PM yelling at them to come post in the thread damnit."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'
YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Well, I'll rule myself out of this one now...the financial issues I had earlier in the year have not gone away, unfortunately.

I can get the Newcastle venue again. They liked us. (They actually told us to slow down with the drink and food orders.)
I'm an N for 27/12 and probably an N for anywhere other than Newcastle. There are bad times just around the corner,

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
We are now entering the portion of the year where in my experience nobody has any free weekends until January, and then nobody has any free money until February. Aiming for a large meetup before the end of the year is probably therefore a bit optimistic.

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
My bank account is doing something unusual - when I check it, it says I'm not horrendously overdrawn for once. This, in conjunction the added freedom of my new posting in sunny Bournemouth means that I can attend pretty much whenever and wherever the meet up is held. ^^

edit: All this is assuming that I'm okay health-wise. Been having some issues lately which keep me stuck at home (mostly me burning the candle at both ends... and in the middle... and in 4th and 5th dimensions...).
And yeah, due to said issues I haven't had a chance to look around town at the good haunts.Last edited by Castaras; 2014-11-22 at 07:16 AM.

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
Somewhat unrelated to the main topic, but this Saturday (29/11), there is the first ever Glasgow Games Festival being held at Glasgow Caledonian University.
One of my colleagues is part of the organising crew for the festival and this is what he wrote in the invite to people here at work:
A day of open gaming for gamers old and new to come and play something familiar or try something for the first time
New Gamers
With over 3,000 new games published each year come and get a taste of what unplugged games can offer. There will be a diverse range of games in the library and a crew of friendly helpers to advise and teach.
Old Gamers
Use the games library or bring your own games. Play the pick of the Essen 2014 hotness brought back by this year’s attendees. Get to know other gamers from Glasgow and beyond.
Family Gamers
Come game with the family. We will have a selection games of that can be played with children from primary school age upwards. There will also be helpers on hand to suggest and teach suitable games.
It will be at Glasgow Caledonian University, and the doors will be open Saturday 10.00-23.00

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
OK, I finally sent those PMs I said I was going to send so with a bit of luck we should have some additional input soon? Though I probably still forgot some people. (I was mostly going on who attended or expressed interest in the last couple of meetups but obviously I could potentially look further back or at other UK Playgrounders who've never even poked their heads into a meetup thread before if I really wanted to canvas everyone I possibly could)

Re: UKitP meet XVI: Sweet sixteen... maybe?
I have been summoned!
My vote goes to London, as it's fairly easy to get to for me. The 29th is definitely out - my cousin's getting married. 6th is a possibility. 13th I have a work Christmas meal. 20th... maybe doable, but I imagine I'll be wanted to help prepare for Christmas at that point. Similarly I can't see my family being happy if I disappear the 27th. Then anything in January is probably doable.Quotebox

Unless it happens to be in Derby again or very close by (which is VERY unlikely at this juncture, I suspect) and it happens to fall on a weekend I'm not already busy (difficult this time of year...) I'm pretty certain I won't be able make it.

I'm free most weekends - and can get to most places in or near the Midlands.
