Also, children surprise is too ominous to be allowed.

I'm not seeing any reason to make a golem like that since a creature that size can already throw a rock with it's hands.

Well, not every creature can throw rocks with any great skill. It would be possible to hurl rocks, yes, but you'd be taking improvised weapon penalties, and you wouldn't have great range. Plus, it's possible that aforementioned golem is sort of like a scaled-up arbalester, and the catapult part of them can be enchanted or enhanced on some fashion.

...Now I really want to make a arbalester-style walking cannon thing.

Craft Magical Arms and Armor and Craft Wonderous Items are prerequisires for golem srafting, right?

Those two togeher could easily be used to make a Quiver of plen ty tyoe item to supply infinite projectiles, as well as place a permamant True Shot enchantmeanrt on the catepult.

Use a strong enough frame(permanent Ironwood spells on an already sturdy wood for wooden parts, metal parts are mithril or adamantine, leather parts, if any, are dragon hide, and layer as many protection from energy/alignment/magic spells on it are as feasibly) then a suficiently powerful caster could have an expensive but incredibly efficient sige weapon-particularly if an animate object enchantment were added so that the catapult/trebuchet ims and reloads itself.

Any caster that can build something like that could charge several hundred times it's cost if manufacturing on commission.

Take a look at the knees and elbows.

The catapult probably has longer range than the arms, due to mechanics.

Actually, I think the arm has better mechanics for throwing. Because an arm can be used to throw in the same way as a catapult; just hold the arm straight behind yourself, then move it up/forward while keeping the arm straight. You'll get a lot less distance than if you just threw it shot-put style.

But the forces involved are probably much higher in a catapult. Which is why arrows are shot by bows and crossbows, instead of being thrown by hand.
