Default Half-Giant and Half-Ogre races (PEACH)

Multiple 5e races in one day? It must be your birthday!

    Spoiler: Half-Giant
    Show

    Spoiler: Image
    Show

Descendants of the rare pairing of Human and Giant, they are generally mistaken to be really large humans. They stand over 7 feet tall, and weigh over 250 pounds.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, while your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. Half-Giants usually have a lifespan similar to Humans.
Alignment. They are not strongly focused on any one mindset, like their human parents, but they seem to favor Chaos more than Law. Half-Giants are usually Chaotic Neutral.
Size. Half-Giants are larger and bulkier than humans, and they range from 6 feet to even the cusp of 8 feet tall. Your size is Medium, but you gain some special rules (see "Powerful Build" feature below) due to your larger size.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Powerful Build. The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were larger than normal:
You can wield 2-handed weapons and weapons with the "heavy" keyword with one hand, but you take disadvantage when using weapons with the "light" keyword. You treat weapons with the "versatile" keyword as "light" weapons for your size (Used normally for "light" weapons.)
Armor and Apparel costs 30% extra, due to the bulky build of the Half-Giant.
Due to size, you are proficient with Strength saving throws.
When using a 2-handed weapon, you can add your proficiency bonus to the damage roll.
Stomp. As a Bonus Action, you can Stomp all creatures that are adjacent to you. All creatures that are adjacent to you must make a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your Strength modifier + 1/2 character level), being pushed up to 10 feet on a failure. Being pushed in this manner does not provoke.
Languages. Half-Giants are able to speak, read, and write both the Common and the Giant languages.

This increases to two times per long rest at 5th level, to three times per long rest at 10th level, to four times per long rest at 15th level, and to five times per long rest at 20th level.

Hopefully you guys like these races!
Yes, I know that they seem lacking, but I see that the Powerful Build feature is pretty powerful by itself.

Seem like 2 good races. Though I must say that I am not sure about the trade of 5 feet for darkvision.

You know, I don't think that the issue with Powerful Build is that it is necessarily too powerful, from a minmaxing perspective. Rather, it oddly is skewed towards making defensive fighting styles more attractive to half giants and half ogres: there isn't much reason to use a heavy weapon in two hands, because you can get the same damage by using the same weapon as a sword-n-board. In fact, a fighter or paladin or whatever half-ogre will actually do more damage with a greataxe using the Duelist style (+2 damage) than with the Two Handed style (reroll 1's and 2's), and he gets +2 AC from his shield on top of that!

From a game mechanics perspective that means that one handed weapon wielding half-ogres enjoy a humongous boost to their damage output relative to human sized races, but no boost at all if they are wielding a two handed weapon. I wonder if that is what you were going for fluff-wise. Having a half-ogre swinging around some ludicrously large tree stump or something as a two-handed weapon just seems so iconic that you'd want to at least give a reason for a player to try it, whereas as the races are currently it seems to actively dissuade the character from doing that.

Also, as written, half ogres and half giants are essentially locked out of the rogue class. That might not be a big deal, depending on how you plan to use them, but from a universal usability perspective it's a bit problematic. The issue of course is that they get disadvantage to using light weapons, whereas a rogue pretty much needs to use light weapons to deliver a sneak attack. One way to address this is to say that half giants can treat a versatile weapon wielded in one hand as "light" weapons for the purposes of class abilities and rules that require the use of light weapons, though they do not gain disadvantage with such attacks like they do actual light weapons. It's a bit of a kludge, but it opens up a whole class for the races, as well as making dual wielding without the feat an option for them once again.

I do think they both need something more to make them feel complete, as they are now they are more or less the same race, and I think that they conceptually have enough differences that it could be reflected in further racial traits of some kind.

For the half troll's half regeneration, have you thought about letting it just use its HD in combat as a bonus action? Say, 1 at a time at level 1, 2 at a time at 6, 3 at 11, and 4 at 16? Something to that effect.

That lets it be beastly in combat in terms of regenerating wounds a fast as some enemies can inflict them, but it uses a resource that they already have so that it does not become too overpowered over the course of an entire day, and it doesn't introduce any new mechanics that the player has to keep track of.

Any reason you decided to try and import Powerful Build instead of just making them Large sized?

Also, while I do think the limitations are not completely overbearing, is there a specific reason you did not include the ability to wield weapons a size category larger?

    Updated the Half-Troll.

I decided to try emulating the Powerful Build feature from 3.5, due to the lack of rules for Large size characters, and I saw it as easier than making said rules (While keeping balance).

With the use a two handed as a one handed feature would i be allowed to dual weild 2h with the dual weild feat? Being as a 2h weapon is essentially a long sword for these races?

Yes im a Minotaur rouge. Im super stealthy like a bull in a chian shop
