Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I'm getting a definite 'the Wicked Witch in Oz sends the flying monkeys off to attack Dorothy and company' vibe here.
Wicked Ship: "Go! GO!!!" and the sky is full of Seraphs...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Somehow... somehow this looks extremely ominous. I fear Friday is going to be one of those 'emotional punch in the throat' strips. :(

REALLY glad to have been wrong!
And I think everybody is in love with Jenny at this point. I know I am.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
So I started this comic about 6 hours ago, and am now caught up! My current assessment is that this is an amazing comic that I look forward to reading more of in the future.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Ah, but is he doing that, though? Not so much the manipulation - I think Coyote does that to everyone - but the sabotage. If Ysengrin's mental problems aren't being caused by Coyote, and are beyond his ability to cure, then removing the memories of the mad times might be effective first aid. Because otherwise Ysengrin might be sunk in guilt and horror and be unable to function.
As with many things involving Coyote, we need to know more about the situation to be able to tell if he's being evil or just... well, Coyote.

True, his facial expressions though do not lend themselves to one believing that he is not enjoying Ysengrin torment at first glance. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm suddenly feeling rather apprehensive for Jenny. Jack's really tempting fate with that first statement...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
In a darker story, maybe. Death's pretty rare. I'm trying to think of deaths...there's a couple of robots that have croaked, one of the Tic-tocs, those two fairies (who "died" but are still very much alive)...and then there is some seriously dark backstory. Oh, and some more robots from this story which have gotten whacked. Hetty.
Come to think of it, the only humans to have died by violence (that I can recall, anyway) are Jeanne and Daniel.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I wonder what Shadow's up to? The only ones left to rescue are Kat and Paz, and I don't see how he could help them get away. On the other hand, if he can still go two dimensional and move through shadows...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I'm kinda worried about just exactly what will happen when that last siphon is destroyed. Will everything simply revert to normal all nicey-nicey or are we looking at a Red Sea kind of thing?

Close. Not Oz, but ORZ! The Ship is one with Many *Fingers* instead of being *many bubbles* like the students and other characters. Being machine was *frumple* and now they're in *Zimmy Time* after *smelling* a way to *Become*.

Haha, good old times
To experience this and more sillyness (inside of a rather dark plot), get UQM.
And be sure to install the voicepack.-HaJo

Wow, Shadow's good! And looking rather adult, here...
But the Ship. Is it possible Kat has ALREADY joined her experiment to the Ship? That's not the whale head outline we've come to know and fear.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I feel a little stupid now for wondering how he was gonna sneak in there. I forgot that he doesn't have any bones. He's squishy enough that even Schlock would probably be jealous.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Some things I have noticed from a reread of mine, and the question they have raised.
1) Coyote's Tooth: Could it harm, and potentially destroy Jones? Coyote said that the blade could "cut the very Earth itself", and after the revelation of Jones past, I personally would have given her the name of Terra (Gaea), since she seems to be the embodiment of the planet itself. It's up to you to decide if the planet is alive. Perhaps, (WAG) she will live so long as the core burns hot, and will fade only when the Earth's core cools. Reasoning behind that being that we call Mars, which appears to have a cold core due to the fact that it lacks a magnetic field IIRC, a "dead planet".
2) This guy who objects to Diego's plan and the man in the red jacket in this vision, are they the same person? Do we have his name?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I'm pretty sure the guy in that second vision is Steadman the archer, who fired Diego's arrow. He's got the right hair color and was wearing a red cape the night it was done.
Man this thing was full of outdated stuff.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Here comes the final 'BLOOM"!!
I wonder what Shadow told Paz? If things go back to as they were before, she and Kat will be in the Ballroom. I have no idea where the Ship will go, maybe back to its CPU. Which, with all that whale flesh about him, might be... messy. Or maybe he'll wind up in the sea and Lindsey will deal with him. It will be interesting to see what happens and what is left after all this. And who comes through it...
