Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
So, anyone else, when you try to watch the ep, does it give you a pop up of sponge bob telling you to order form your TV provider and to grab an adult to learn how it works. (Said the highly disgruntled 26 year old man.)

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
Thank you Varik for making what would otherwise a gratuitous and frankly kind of pointless (really it brings nothing, no particular character devellopement or revelation, not much point in recaping everything that happened before seeing as the season plot are mostly unonnected, It doesn't even show charaters in calm we wouldn't see them in like say 'tales of Ba Sing Se' since it's show of stuff we've already seen, doesn't give us a different spin or interpretation on the events by say narrating by a characters whose P.OV. we don't get often, I really don't get the point of it) clip show episode watchable.
That wasn't 'ember islan player' level of quality but still amusing.
"Unalok the diabolical but incredibly borring and unpopular sorcerer from the South listening on the other line !"
That lines pretty much made the whole episode for me. And the last line is brilliant.
Speaking of firebenders, everyone else in the room criticizing Mako's dating history FTW.Last edited by smuchmuch; 2014-11-22 at 12:57 AM.

I think they did an ok job considering they had no choice but to do a clipshow episode.

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
So am I the only one to see Hou Ting as Korra version of Battletech's Romano Liao.
1. Both of them are authoritarian monarch.
2. Both of them utlized secret police for their own ends.
Except Romano's dad, Maximillian, was less likable (and insane, especially losing most of his territories to Hanse) than the Earth king.
Either that or it's just a trend for evil queen.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
Mako is still unwilling to admit that he screwed up several times without repeated prodding, though. That's some tenacious resistance to character growth.
Also, a preview of the new episode...

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
And Bolin/Varrick's segment was great, so hands down the weakest episode of the season so far but with some redeeming features. We're still nowhere near things like the Great Divide in crappiness.

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
Yeah, while this episode might rank as "mildly entertaining, but ultimately forgettable," at least it's not "insulting waste of time" like the Great Divide was.
I wonder how losing an episode is going to affect the pacing of the rest of the season? They've always had problems with that in the past, but now the executives are messing with it. If the ending feels super-rushed, I guess we know why.

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
I'm wondering the same thing. LoK has been hounded by pacing problems and time constraints from the very beginning. It pretty much crippled Book One, in my opinion. This season is already showing some signs of being a little too big for its time frame, so I hope it doesn't get very rushed in the end.

Amon's character may have been set on fire and dropped into the Great Divide, but at least we got Bad Joke Amon out of the deal. That's not nothing.

So, apparently Book 4's airing on Nicktoons starting this Friday? Does anyone know what to make of this?

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
What? Just, what?
*Sigh*.
So, just so I know were on the same page, as of right now we know Nicks been screwing around with this show near endlessly, (And I'll be shocked if at some point down the line one or both creators don't come out in an interview and reveal they did a lot more screwing around with that they've had to keep quite about to keep a working relationship, such as it is, open with the network.), and that the lions share of it's problems can be traced back to that. Right?
And yeah, I'll chime into the group saying in a few years they'd like for there to be a new Avatar Series on CN or something that isn't being jerked around endlessly that jumps the Timeline into the equivalent of the 1980's or 1990's. And then a couple of years after that have a fourth series to bring it full circle and have that be either a Cyber-punk or Space Opera series.
Heck, if we can have it on Adult Swim we can even make it/them an Adult or at least older Teenage (PG-13 rating equivalent.) series."I Burn!"

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
Yeah, tell me that wouldn't be Epic though!
Especially if it got to be on like Adult Swim or something and was being shown with a PG - 13 or higher rating so that bad guys can actually be shot on screen?
Or that Shadowrun: Avatar wouldn't be Amazing?"I Burn!"

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
Since I've been sleeping heavily due to being sick, I sometimes have weird dreams. Just had a dream of, after defeating Kuvira, her husband goes on a Lee Harvey Oswald spree, making a spirit vine sniper and shooting Korra and Wu (Wu survives due to Korra's actions).

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
... ... ... That would be a hell of a way to end the series. And by hell of a way to end the series I mean "Please god for the love of humanity and all that is decent in the multyverse do not let that be the way the series ends.".
Also, I think there still engaged. At least they were when they were introduced and we've not seen a wedding ceremony yet. I think Kuvira's saving it for when she's got world domination."I Burn!"

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
They kind of wrote themselves into a corner with the technological pace of the Avatarverse, but I don't think it's something they can't get out of. And a new series doesn't even need to be about another Avatar, really. I'd totally watch the adventures of an adult Gaang or Krew (well, older Krew, they're already adults in Season Four), provided it didn't have to be squeezed into fourteen or less episodes like a sausage.

Avatar by Venetian Mask. It's of an NPC from a campaign I may yet run (possibly in PbP) who became a favorite of mine while planning.

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
See, I don't think they did unless they keep going past a 4th or 5th Avatar or so.
For starters, they could do prequel series. Sure, we know the worlds not gonna end and it will eventually get back to 4 nations status, but that doesn't mean the avatar and/or there friends can't be hurt/killed in order for there to be a threat.
Or, going forward, hit it up with the next series being modern-ish, and then go forward with Cyber Punk for 1-2 Generations of Avatars, and after that, Space Opera. Heck, there are long running sci-fi Pulps that have timelines that span thousands of years. That could work with a Network not hell bent on screwing the franchise over in favor ofAzulaSpongebob."I Burn!"

Re: Legend of Korra, Book 4: Too Graphic for TV
The Avatar... IN SPACE!
Personally, I think the world is able to regress or at least stagnate now that spirits are everywhere. All they have to introduce is the concept that more advanced technology can't work near spirits. Stuff that runs on combustion or basic electronics would be fine, but anything more complicated than that like microchips would simply not work. I mean, yeah, the next Avatar series would effectively have to be set in the 1990~2020's if Korra is set in the 1920's and Aang was set in the 1850's, but they really don't need to have had the same kind of explosion in technological advancements that we've enjoyed.
Of course, the next Avatar could be set centuries into the future in a world where technology is considered to be ancient magic and everyone rides around in steam-powered technology that's inferior to even the stuff available in Aang's time. Some cataclysmic event occurred in centuries past, which ended the Avatar cycle as it was known. Bending would still be a thing but it'd be rare and when a new Avatar appears (the explanation being that killing an Avatar in the Avatar State destroys Raava, but she comes back after a few centuries just like she would if Vaatu killed her), nobody knows who that is except for a few people well-versed in ancient legends.
Steampunk Avatar, yes please."Don't think of it as dying," said Death,
"Just think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush."
