They don't seem to be stickying threads for the moment. The best you can probably do for now is subscribe to it so you can always find it.

I can't believe the WotC forums have now been down for almost 24hrs.

We need at least one Bard guide on these forums as an alternative. :)

The Kobold Fighters encounter builder looks great, but I'm not really sure what we're supposed to do with the "adjusted exp". What makes it different from the total encounter exp? Could someone clarify this?

According to the Basic DMG guidelines (and presumably the actual DMG guidelines when it comes out, since they're supposed to be the same): the "adjusted exp" doesn't measure how much XP the party gets, it just measures whether the encounter is level-appropriate. The more monsters there are in the encounter, the more you multiply the real XP in order to get the adjusted exp (difficulty). For example, if you have 100 Hobgoblins, each worth 50 XP, that is 5000 XP worth of monster once you kill them--but you're not supposed to actually use those 50 hobgoblins against a party of 4 10th level PCs like you would use a single Abominable Yeti (CR 9, so worth 5000 XP). For purposes of difficulty, having 15+ monsters is considered 4x as difficult, so you're only supposed to use them against a party prepared to face 20,000 XP of monsters, i.e. it's a Medium encounter for a 19th level party.

I have no idea why the DMG suggests that you not award the full 20,000 XP to the party once the hobgoblins are defeated, but for some reason they only get the real XP, not the adjusted XP, by RAW. I expect awarding full adjusted XP to be a common and reasonable house rule.

A theory behind why its that way is so players don't try to game the system by running through an entire dungeon, getting an entire mob of angry enemies following them, and leading 'em all into a trap where they easily pick off the entire mob for tons of xp.

    Or something.

It's a pretty poor rule imo and in the opinions of a lot of people.

A pretty common house rule that seems to be developing is that the party gets the increased XP for such fights.

If however people go for the "fish in a barrel" option, they would get a bit of XP for innovative thinking, but only a tiny portion of what they would have recieved for facing the group openly.

After all, combat xp is supposed to be awarded for doing something challenging.

Alternatively, it might be that a huge number of low level monsters is simply not much of a challenge for characters in 5e, just as they weren't in prior versions. In AD&D the Fighter got a swing per level against things like Kobolds with less than 1 HD, and in 3.X a Fireball (gasp, a prop for evocation!) can kill outright a great number of low level monsters, while only inflicting injury on more level appropriate monsters.

Which is why Belkar didn't get any EXP for killing the mountain of hobgoblins. :)

In such cases it's perfectly fine to not award the party the full amount of EXP which is suggested by a simple addition of the CR of a large number of low level monsters.

The adjusted experience more reflects the added difficult of larger numbers. Fighting 3 orcs at the same time is way harder than fighting the same three one by one, and just adding experience values doesn't reflect it. So a multiplier gets used instead.

    *cough* *cough* emphasis mine *cough*

Seriously, though. Can we request for threads to be stickied? Or is it discouraged?

SIDE NOTE: Has anyone found/made a chart of which features recharge on a turn/short rest/long rest/day/et al? I've been looking for one, but haven't had much luck.

You just described a chart that would have every ability in the game listed. That's a big chart.

I did make small Short Rest Checklist for my party (on our Obsidian Portal wiki) with everything our party's chars can do/benefit from during a short rest so we don't forget anything,

I would suggest adding Deconstructing 5e: Typical wealth by level as a resource for DMs. It has helped me immensely for converting a PF AP.

Also Analysis of "Typical" Magic Item Distribution.

Person_Man wrote a fantastic mini-guide on Rogue tactics on the fly in a thread a few days ago. If there were already a Rogue guide on GITP, I'd contact the author and suggest they include it -- but both of the listed Rogue guides are on the Wizards forums.

In the meantime, it might be worth linking to on it's own (it's that good), with a note suggesting that the first person to write a Rogue guide for GITP include it:

This guy made pre-made characters for every class, one for each archetype, from level 1 to level 20. Perfect for anybody who forgot to make a character and has to show up to a game in 20 minutes, or anybody who needs a sample character on the quick, like a DM who doesn't want to go through the trouble of building some enemies.

Somehow or another, for almost two months I missed the fact that there's now a 5E homebrew compendium on these same forums. Thank you TwelveTrees for putting in the work to put that together. Main post edited with new category.
