Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
The Nadir works entirely by cards. There was a card to be found there that gave you a Tear of the Bazaar every time you drew it. With, IIRC, no requirements or costs.
They changed it now. Now you need the Lacre quality you can only get at christmas and trade it in. Which makes far more sense, of course, but also means the Nadir isn't really worth it anymore, at least not for grinding.Resident Vancian Apologist

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
Considering this and a quest that was recently added to Sunless Sea, I now want a zoological Neathbow. Any suggestion for the other colours:
Apocyan:
Cosmogone: there's already an item in that colour, the Ray-Drenched Cinder. Maybe the Midnight Matriarch could become a Cosmogone Matriarch?
Gant:
Irrigo: The Irrigoat
Peligin:
Violant: similarly, Correspondents have Violant Ink. I suggest the Maleviolant Monkey, never theless.
Viric:
For those who don't know: these are seven impossible colours that only exist in the Neath, and even there only rarely. Most seem to have unpleasant side-effects, though Apocyan, in Sunless Sea, actually seems to bring a lot of life to the island it's found on.Last edited by Eldan; 2014-11-22 at 03:41 PM.

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
Almost every item gained from the tier 4 professions is connected with the neathy colors - the exception is the Harpoon, since it is the Monster Hunter himself who gains the connection.
Remind me what the colors each stand for again?

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
The profitability of the Cave of Nadir is an odd question, since it's so driven by Opportunity cards alone, but I'm not sure I'd sell it's value short when it comes to financial gain.
As:
Spoiler: Sketchy Math
Assuming all cards have the same probability, you have a 3 Action cost to first entire the Nadir, and immediately gain 1 Irrigo. There are 7 worth 0 echoes and 1 Irrigo
2 worth 1 Echo and 1 Irrigo
1 with about a 10% chance to be worth 62.5 and a 90% chance to be worth 1 Echo, and takes 2 Irrigo regardless (on 'average' about 7.15 Echoes)
1 worth 2 Irrigo and .5 Echoes
3 that let you trade 10 CP of dreams for 12.5 Echoes and 1 Irrigo.
1 worth 2 Irrigo and about a 30% chance of being worth 3 Echoes, or else worth only .01 Echo (On average .9 Echoes)
1 worth 2 Irrigo and 62.5
1 worth .6 Echoes and 1 Irrigo
1 worth 12 Echoes and 2 Irrigo
One worth anywhere from 0 to 40 Echoes. I'm going to approximate it at about 10 for purposes of this calculation, and 2 Irrigo.
134.65/19 = About 7.09 Echoes per card used.
About 1.3 Irrigo gained per card.
Meaning on average you'll get to use 6 cards per Nadir visit (Which is approximately 7-8 Irrigo, dropping you at 8-9 after the +1 from entering).
6 actions at 7.09 Echoes is 42.54 Echoes, but the net cost is 9 actions, leaving your actual approximate Echoes/Action at... 4.73.
In all actuality, as you can work around bad cards, especially if you have a larger hand, and some of those "Low chance to pay out" cards have a much higher chance to pay out if you have higher stats, use second chances, etc. I can say that while the Caves might not have their once fabled possibility to be worth truly absurd amounts, they're still worth more per action spent, on average, than any other location in the game I'm aware of. Though there is the stat cost.
So while the Nadir isn't formally "Grindable" anyone just in it for the cash should be trying to spend as much time in the Caves as they can.If you're tired of signatures telling you to copy and paste things into your signature, do not copy and paste this into your signature.

Okay blokes, can you help me accumulate 104 Meritorious copies? I need people to request interviews for a newspaper (I don't have any bronze cards doing that unless I've already asked you), so if you would like to be interviewed for an ambition I'll try to represent you fairly (assuming Herbert doesn't get his filthy paws on the presses).

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
Well, first off you need a newspaper (You may need one for the Affair of the Box, so you can find out if you do that. Otherwise, look in Spite.) Then, you need to be in the process of making a newspaper (this requires a Whirring Contraption). While you still are working on the newspaper, a bronze opportunity card pops up from time to time, which allows you to interview a person with a certain ambition. There are four cards, one for each ambition; the card you get determines which ambition you can interview someone about, and consequentially WHO you can interview.

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
So, here's the situation. I need just six more Outlandish Copy for my "Blake's Believe it or Not! Fallen Observer Chronicles of the Weird and Frankly Unlikely, Second Edition" . I think I've sent interview invitations to everyone on my contact list.
Is there anyone I might plague a second time? Nothing you say has to be true, just entertainingly strange.Resident Vancian Apologist

Which one does the Nemesis ambition cover, if I may be so bold to ask?

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
I want to get all the lodgings. At the moment I have all the ones you can buy at the Bazaar except the Brass Embassy Guest Room and a Reservation at the Royal Bethlehem. So my question is which would you suggest going for first, since I'm... no where close to getting either. I have sold my soul if it matters.

I'm up for however many interviews you want, and in general, all other social actions (besides being ratted up, being poisoned, and suspicious loitering).

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
I'd say the Royal Beth is a tad easier to get than the Brass Embassy, since all you need for the alternate route to buy is the Merry Gentlemen opportunity card, and then simply buy it through him. Antique Mysteries are quite easy to get, since Jade is aplenty and you just need to convert up to it. (Assuming you kept Jade around, like I did.)
For The Brass Embassy (which I'm currently doing), you need to cultivate Connected: Hell up to 50 and draw the Devils opportunity card. Plus souls are rather hard to get casually. It's definitely slower.

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
This is why I'm trying to get at least one more of the 4 card residences before Christmas.
Unfortunately I didn't save up my Jade early game and only have ~6.7k.Peanut Half-Dragon Necromancer by Kurien.

Re: Fallen London 2 - "A Starveling Thread! A Starveling Thread!"
Speaking of 5 card housing, I finally got my first little beaker of all important blood... Though to be honest I don't know that I want to use it yet. The 7 point notability hit is kind of harsh, though I'm glad I had enough Making Waves to request one of my points back immediately, it seems like I have my project for the next few weeks... If nothing else I'm going to want it back to 10 or so by the time the Wicket opens up, get the alternate 5 card house access or something more... Eccentric. Really depends on my Lacre intake I suppose.
