    And death pit it was. As the light illuminates the stone path before you, one thing becomes abundantly clear. The pathway, barely wide enough for two people side by side, is flanked on both sides by an absolute void.

    The stone falls over the side, and drops noiselessly into the blackness until it is lost from sight. No sound reverberates back. Bottomless pits don't really exist in nature, but whatever is at the bottom, it's clesrly a long way down, and it absorbs sound well enough that no echo is heard.

    The party begins making its way across the bridge, slowly, carefully.

    Jacinius falls back to his position at the rear, blowing on another stone to replace the one he had tossed into the chasm. Behind him, his eidolon plays rearguard, keeping a wary eye out for ambushes. Its master keeps his ears peeled, trying to hear any telltale signs of trouble.

    As Valus slowly makes his way across, the party filing behind, the end of the bridge outlines itself in the shape of a door. Which was a relief, until Jacinius and Valus notice that their light does not reach so far. The light is coming from beyond the door, and it's getting brighter. Something is coming.

    Halfway across the bridge, you are left with the choice of about facing and attempting to retreat, or moving forward and risking being trapped on the bridge. The choice is yours, but it is doubtful that whatever comes will wait for you to make it.

    You only make it halfway back before they come around the corner. A patrol of goblins. Two carry halberds, and wear a semblance of metal armor. The other two carry bows and quivers. They seem just as surprised to see you, but they react quickly enough, moving quickly to advance across the bridge, the two halberdiers in front and the other two goblins nocking arrows behind. They are 45yards away, but advancing quickly.

    Teya began to slowly back up toward the tunnel they'd come from, keeping her gaze on the goblins that were approaching. They didn't seem like they'd be too difficult to handle; at the same time, halberds were good for tripping opponents, and that would be disastrous in this situation.

    Teya's cursory glance reveals little that could be used as an impromptu throwing weapon. There is little more than grit beneath your boots. There may be some back in the spider cave, but by the time they were acquired, the fight would most likely be done.

    Seeing that it's just goblins, Jacinius moves up with his eidolon. The beast roars at the goblins, its hot breath reeking of sulfur. Jacinius moves his fingers through a pattern, and a thin layer of magic covers his torso.

    As the eidolon roars at one of the halberd goblins, it turns to run away, the beast clearly too much for its meager loyalty. It turns to run, and in doing so, trips over the Halberd of its companion. Arms pinwheeling, it teeters over the edge, and it's halberd goes flying into the abyss. The goblin grabs the edge, barely hanging on.

    In typical goblin fashion, the other three laugh at the first goblins predicament. The second halberd weilder advances across the bridge (move 7m). The two archers fire arrows at Valus over the head of their halberd wielding companion.

    Smacking his forehead after realizing his own stupidity, Jacinius unslings the crossbow from his back and places a bolt on the taught string.

    His eidolon, meanwhile, seizes the advantage of the break in formation and charges toward one of the archer goblins, claws raking.

    The Goblin Halberdier parries Anathal's scimitar strike, knocking it aside and away from his body. He lashes back at the magus with a cruel strike of his weapon. Meanwhile, one of the goblin archers drops his bow at the eidolon's attack and draws a dagger. The other fires an arrow point blank at the eidolon, seeking to push it back. Meanwhile, the Halberdier hanging over the edge struggles to bring himself back onto the bridge and into the fray. His claws manage to sink in and make his time easier, but he cannot pull himself up.

    The Goblin turns aside Anathal's strike with his halberd, but cannot get the weapon turned in time to block Valus's sword. Perhaps if his compatriot had been able, they might have held, but alone, he was little match for the two agile fighters.

    Valus' sword bites into the goblin's side, the stroke killing the creature almost instantly. The light leaves his eyes as a look of surprise crosses his face before he tumbles off the side into the abyss, no sound to mark his fall.

    The other halbardier looks around in panic, without his weapon he is helpless until he can climb back up.
