Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
Awesome, someone is working on HeroForge again. While it has its flaws, it is till the best most complete sheet/program out there.
Before adding support for more books please complete those that are only partially supported first. IIRC there is no drider in the race selection. I can't think of more at the moment because it has been some time that I played with the sheet.
[Edit]Dragon Compendium seems to be supported, but I can't find the Sha'ir or Dvati for example.[/Edit]
Oh and since the race selection moved to another sheet a couple of versions ago, you might want to change the Races and Stats title to Stats.Last edited by Andezzar; 2014-11-09 at 06:50 PM.

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
Dvati are there. I just made a Dvati Swordsage.
As for templates, in between my work on Spellforge, I can work on how to write up missing templates and send them to Heliomance.

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
Interesting. I've not had that problem, seems to work fine for me. Not sure what's going on there.
Dragon Compendium is only partially implemented, there's not much in there yet. Dvati should be one of the few things that is, though it won't calculate HP properly.Quotebox

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
I've never really used the Custom Race/Clas/Template functions - when I want to use something that's not implemented, I tend to implement it completely instead! I'm not sure what's not working properly about them, I'm afraid. I may have a look at it at some point, but frankly I find the file handling routines a bit intimidating! I'll probably focus more on just getting more content in there.
As for magic items, I am vaguely planning on doing a complete overhaul of how that works, but that's a major project and probably won't be soon. Current plans are finish off Magic of Incarnum (just the racial sub levels left to go now), add the Fiendish Codices, and maybe add in Wildshape handling. If I learn enough about how natural weapons work from that (they're an utter nightmare, one of the most confusing bits of the sheet) I might even try going back and adding all the Totemist natural weapons. Or I might get cross with it, rip out the natural weapons code by the roots, and rewrite it from scratch. Dunno.
After that, I'll see what people want.
Thanks for that catch. I've tracked it down, it'll be fixed in the next release.Quotebox

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
It's been a while since I used Heroforge, but if memory serves the problem stemmed from Heroforge not exporting the Custom Template sheet at all. Manually copying your Custom Template sheet to the export .hfg (easily done, but a pain as it has to be manually done after every export) fixes this issue. Off memory, the Custom Class sheet is added to the export file and works just fine. I can't say whether Custom Race works or not.
Urgh, magic items. I love Heroforge, but its utter ineptitude with magic items got me to switch to PCGen. If I can offer a suggestion, the problem with Heroforge is that it only allows you to put one item in a body slot, and it has to belong to that body slot. With the easy-to-understand (and commonly accepted at tables) rules for wrong-slotted, or slotless, or combined items, this implementation is archaic. The best implementation, functionally, would be to simply list magic items sorted by source, and tick a box by the ones a character has equipped. All similar to how feats are presented. This would present a problem with output (perhaps fixed with a drop-down box that asks what slot the item is in, allowing unlimited items per slot), but it's more important that numerical outputs on character sheets are presented correctly, rather than being pretty.

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
An easy solution to this is, after creating your custom template, unhide the sheet Template Info, copy all the values provided by the Custom Template slot into one of the green boxes at the bottom. Before closing heroforge, and after saving your character, reset all tabs and options selections. Save it, and you now have your custom template saved for later use.
Speaking of which, I'm going to go add in Half-Minotaur/Half-Ogre.

Release 7.1.1 is up. Assorted bugfixes, and Magic of Incarnum is now completely implemented.
What should I add next - Fiendish Codex 2, Oriental Adventures, or something else?Last edited by Heliomance; 2014-11-19 at 10:09 AM.

This is awesome! Both the group I play in and the one I DM for uses HeroForge. Now perhaps my Star Elf will see the light of day?

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
First time jumping in on HeroForge in any form, I'm getting a bunch of weird "can't run some macro" popups trying to check boxes in the setting based content, not sure what that means. Never used Excel to this degree.
Edit: Fixed, weird default office settings. Looking great so far!Last edited by supersonic29; 2014-11-19 at 02:58 PM.

IIRC there is also no way for the custom class to change game values beyond saves and BAB.

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
naw see what you do is you use the custom class stuff to outline what you want. Then, you go to Class Info and Class Abilities and copy the values/formula from the custom entries into legit spots. Finally, go back and clear out the custom class.
Will you have to go back and edit the things like AC calculation or feats? yes. But you can hammer out a decent chunk. Though now with dndtools down, dunno how easy it will be to do so.

Their last update was that they received cease and desist order from WotC and that they neither have the knowledge nor the money to fight it.

Re: HeroForge Anew (D&D 3.5 Character Builder)
Double Edit: Woops, I shouldn't say anything about that site going down, the mods have chalked that down to discussing criminal activity due to the cease and desist. A lack of a searchable database is surely a setback for something like Heroforge Anew though.
