No but if I read it right it's just rumors. And personally, I'm far more interested in the rumors for 2 bringing in Ghidorah and Rodan than I am for a possible 3 with mechagodzilla.

Still more Godzilla is never a bad thing.

Tis not rumors. Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah are a confirmed go (they've already appeared in a con trailer). The only rumoe at this point is whether or not they go for mecha-godzilla for number three or go for a crossover with PacRim or Kong.

How would they do Kong? They'd have to make him like, 16 times the size of the Peter Jackson movie version.

That's what they did last time. Also they gave Godzilla an acquired weakness to electricity and Kong the ability to conduct it. The American dub features some pretty hilarious 'scientific' segments to hulk this up, such as reptiles being primarily susceptible to electricity, and having brains the size of a marble. Personally, Kong really isn't great versus material, Pacific Rim seems more fitting, particularly since it avoids part of the problem of most versus films, the utter avoidance of seeing one icon actually lose.

I don't want to wait until 2018 I need more Godzilla now

I'd rather not see another King Kong vs. Godzilla. The size difference is too great, I know they scaled up Kong in the original vs. but Godzilla was smaller then too (~150 ft.). I would have a hard time believing a 300+ ft tall gorilla could exist unnoticed; Godzilla I can buy because he hibernates at the bottom of the ocean.
Mecha-Godzilla could be good to bring back, they'll really have to sell the reason for why the robot needs to be Godzilla shaped. I don't see where the linked article is getting Mecha-Godzilla though. They reference a few tweets but the closest tease for MG is that there will be other classic Toho monsters in future installments.

I remember an AVN video that stated it was originally supposed to be frankenstien's monster and that's where all the electricity stuff came from.

Sounds fun. Now I just hope for more than 12 minutes of Godzilla in the whole thing.

I wonder now that cinematic universes 9Seriosuly there's going to be a Robin Hood Cinematic Universe) seem to be the next big thing, if they'll start to make spinoffs. A stand alone Mothra or Rodan film could end up being good.

I think they had a perfectly compelling character. They just killed him 25 minutes in. Leaving us with...Scientist Prophet and Super Generic Solider.

I actually gave them a lot of props for killing off their main character so fast. I didn't see it coming and it was a risky move. Of course, if you do, you have to have other compelling characters to fill the void. I don't think Godzilla really had that.

But the Godzilla action was really fun. So, yeah, I got what I came to see.

Yeah, agreed on all counts. That's also why I'm pretty much guaranteed to see the sequel, since regardless of anything else, we should be getting more Kaiju goodness.

My favorite part was the scene where the airplanes are blowing up at the airport. The instant Godzilla's leg comes into view, everything goes silent. Just awesome.

I think in the Godzilla movie thread, after watching the film this forum talked about how the same movie seems to have been made for Cranston to be the character who lived and his son to be the one who dies 25 minutes in. It makes more sense in terms of dramatic progression.
    • Cranston is the real actor who begins the jounrey with the audience, and should carry the bulk of the film.
    • Cranston is the one with the motivation to follow Godzilla all over the globe like a crazy person.
    • The role never truly calls for any Bruce Willis-level heroics that required Super Generic Soldier; anything he did, Cranston could have done.
    • Cranston is the one with the internal conflict that would be resolved by him forgiving Godzilla for the projected blame on all kaiju for his family's deaths, and deciding in the end to cheer for Godzilla along with the audience.

It was somewhere around there that I had the one moment that pulled me into MST3K mode. When an airport worker's staring at the monsters as the tide rushes around her I couldn't help but quip "that's not seawater, it's every person in Hawaii pissing themselves."
