Hercules: a Disney Princess?
Okay, serious question. I know he's not technically a princess, but for some reason, I think he might meet the requirements of being a Disney princess. I can't remember where I heard this argument initially, but I remember being at least partially convinced that it was true.
Let's look at the facts. He's royalty, he's the star of a Disney movie, and physical contact with his true love was the climax of the story and technically saved him from death, (although this time it was a hand-grab instead of the usual kiss.). Not to mention he doesn't wear pants. (Not that that counts for anything.)
What do you guys think? Does this hold water? What are your guys' arguments on the subject?Last edited by Jak; 2014-12-29 at 02:23 AM.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
Not exactly what I meant, although this being the first reply did confirm my suspicions, as well as give me a chuckle of amusement.
------------
This isn't an identity issue. He already solved that in the movie. He's a hero. What is still up for debate is whether or not he gets to be in the "club." The Disney Princess Club, that is."A good way to get a decent person to do something horrible is to convince them that they're not responsible for their actions"

I'll make you a deal. He gets in, but in exchange we remove Mulan.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
What? Mulan is a Disney Princess? Oh, and I suppose we let Kaylee from "Quest for Camelot" in, too?

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
At some point we basically have to decide what does and doesn't classify as a "Disney Royal Family Member".
Because if we're being technical here, Lilo and her sister should be princesses in the Disney canon, which makes Stitch and Lilo's Sister's Boyfriend both Princes. To be fair the boyfriend is actually the best Disney Prince as a result because he's completely supportive of her in every way and doesn't take her for granted and is a nice guy, but uh...Stitch counting as a Disney Prince is a little out there.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
There's a canon list, mate. I don't make the rules. I just remember them for future abuse in the noneuclidian convolutions of space that pass for my mind.
Ain't got no time for being a Disney princess, not wen you're the great stone dragon!
Disney does that.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
The condition for being a Disney Pricess is "Looks good as a doll in a pretty dress, and is good at hugging little girls at Disneyland." Herc probably doesn't apply for the latter, and as for the former, it's a matter of opinion.

Wow, I just looked at the Disney Princess wikia article, and he actually meets all of the listed requirements.

Besides, we all know that Herc'll turn down the godlike strength for huggin the little ones.
And I do enjoy all the freedoms a toga provides. good for movement, provides dramatic billowing when necessary, and to quote Mal, "It's the whole air flow."

I like the unofficial/unspoken requirement that your movie has to be profitable.

Would be difficult, since Quest for Camelot is Warner Brothers.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
I forgot Princess Leia is sort of but not really a Disney Princess. You'd think they would include her, since Star Wars was and continues to be a success, and she is marketable.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
Luci isn't a princess. That's a remark on assuming he's got to be feminine because he's sassy, let's make fun of him good-naturedly. He's an emperor. Emperors can be as sassy as they please without slipping into a different and supposedly belittling gender role.
Not animated.
... no? Have you seen the guy at Disneyland? I could see children running terrified from Jack Skellington, but herc is a sweetheart.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
IIRC, both Hercules and Gaston have little kids running up to them for pictures and autographs.

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
No, no, no. Just stop this now.
First unbreakable rule of being a princess: you must be female.
"...the male counterparts are known as Disney Princes. "
Since this whole Disney Princess business is only a marketing ploy, Hercules is not a princess as you cannot package him with the girls. You cannot market Hercules hairbrushes, dresses, etc. to parents and expect to turn a profit."We are the people our parents warned us about!" - J.Buffett

Re: Hercules: a Disney Princess?
Excuse me, first off, he still needs to be crowned such at Disney World. Since that hasn't happened yet, he's at best a Princess-in-Waiting.
And secondly, in the article you yourself provided, Jessica Rabbit was supposedly excluded from the list (in spite of being a character in a Disney movie) by dint of controversy over her sexist exaggerated proportions. So Herc's probably off the list for similar reasons.Last edited by TheCountAlucard; 2014-12-29 at 02:43 PM.
It is inevitable, of course, that persons of epicurean refinement will in the course of eternity engage in dealings with those of... unsavory character. Record well any transactions made, and repay all favors promptly.. (Thanks to Gnomish Wanderer for the Toreador avatar! )
