Default Mio attempts to stop being lazy with drawing.

Hello everyone! I'm Mio and I started this thread to make things happen. ^^

Quick story. I was so lazy with practicing drawing and painting I didn't even try to apply to some fine arts related course in college. Thanks to that I kinda wasted a few years not accomplishing anything and being mad at myself. In June there are entry exams at art academies in my country and I really really want to study graphic design or product design. ;___; The plan is to create an awesome portfolio, take exams, pass them and be a happy art student.

    So, here starts the challanege.

    Each day I am uploading:
    • 1 full drawing/painting/concept art
    • or 5 sketches
    • or WIP of a bigger drawing/painting
    • or some kind of digital project like poster or logo

If I fail to make any of these, I have to upload it on another day.
Exam tasks are specific, so expect a lot of still lifes, anatomy studies and such. Sometimes I may take some requests too. ;) It's almost 7AM here, so I'm hoping to show you something in the evening.

    Wish me good luck. ^^

    Day 1.

Did some fabric shading practice today.
    Notes to myself:
    - really really need to work on speed of drawing, it goes way too slow
    - it's easier to draw such things on a huge sheet of paper than in a sketchbook >.>

Looking at your Violinist sketch and your speed comments, might I suggest you try using the Posemaniacs Thirty Second tool?

It's really nice for helping you build speed and accuracy with that initial rough in, and will give you practice with foreshortening to boot. I've used it on occasion and it helps, but the intended use is to fill at least one entire page per day with as many of the figures as you can fit on it. Even if you only get 6~7 minutes to put into it, fill at least one page with them.

Sycra's youtube channel also has a really nice technique for foreshortening, but it works slightly better if you're using a digital medium.

Also, try to practice drawing basic shapes in perspective using guidelines, and then use that as reference for doing several freehands of the same shape. That practice helps you rough in buildings and vehicles and so on.

I haven't gone to art school myself, but I've been told that it's very common for them to demand massive quantities of art. That ties in with the idea that practicing a task for around 10,000 hours is what it takes to become an expert at it. Practice, practice, practice! (I'm not there yet, either.)

OMG, this is so awesome! *__* Also the videos of this guy are really helpful.
Done a bunch of gesture sketches for practice (nothing interesting to show tbh ._.), but gee, some of those 3d models are super creepy. O.o

I started a painting. Not only I have problems with speed, but with concentration too, so for now it looks bad. >.>

Your stuff looks really nice! Keep it up and draw anything/everything you can. I'm looking forwards to seeing more.
