    Default Character Ideas?

    Hello All,
So I have been playing D&D 3.5 for a while now, I have a regular group blah blah blah...
Long story short we are starting what might be one of our last campaigns...
However I have played alot of characters... and I mean alot. So I am here to ask what character ideas you guys have, I want to play something new. Btw we are a homebrew open group, it just requires approval.

Here is a list of what I have played (Recently)
    Warblade
    Cleric/Blacksmith
    True Necromancer
    Psionic Warrior
    Paladin (Didn't like)
    Monk
    Monster Hunter (Homebrew)
    Dragon Shamman

If anyone has any unique or cool character ideas I would love to hear them, if anyone has a favorite class I would love to hear about it. THANKS!

If you are really looking for something different from what you listed, I would recommend taking a look at the Spellthief class. The guide I linked to is a pretty good starting place.

Bard. Try playing as one of them, perhaps a Kobold bard or a viking skald. That should be fun.

Watch an Errol Flynn movie or two, then play a Swashbuckler. I understand there's a well-recieved handbook for that on the forum, here http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...klers-Handbook shamelessselfpromotion ...

Joking aside, I think it's more important to consider what'll be the most fun to play for going out in a blaze of glory, if this is to be your group's last go-round. You might consider Rogue or, BowStreetRunner's suggestion, Spellthief as a crafty change of pace; your past choices seem to be front-line or spell-slinger types, so these would give you some variety compared to what you usually play. On the other hand, if you REALLY enjoyed one of your past character types, maybe go with that one as a nod to your group's history together. Bottle of red, bottle of white ...

I'm throwing my two cents in for druid. They are my favorite. The versatility and power is oodles of fun. you can take the shape of some scary abberations, control the weather, summon powerful animals and ride around on a bear! The one downside is the required paper work that comes with such a large toolbox. Stats for animal companions, wildshaps, and summons. The spell list is scary large. But that is something I enjoy.

    Seconding druid and Bard.

Druid is out of the box a great combination of both frontline and spell wielder. The overheads are easily managed (I use a tablet with spreadsheet to simplify the process).

A bard can also be both a decent spellcaster (excellent with sublime chord), awesome in melee ( though that requires certain feat choices like snowflake wardance for cha to hit and damage, and Sirine's grace spell for cha to AC), and a great group-buffer.

    "nerfed" incantatar.
wanted to play one for ages, but ofc it gets straight out banned for good reason.
so, heres what i did to talk my dm into it:

    restricted to human
2lvl monk splash to lower clvl
    starting int of 16
    no spell-focus or -penetration
    no DM feats or spells
    no skill-tricks
have to invest a feat in "true believer" and pick up the tome of ancient lore.
have to pick up PA and cleave.
no iotsv, so ill end up with mnk2/wiz5/incant10/fatesing3 (FS allows for dc bolstering in suceed or die scenarios)

the idea was to keep the dc and clvl check ball flat, and roll with the metamagic "abuse".
ive been allowed to pick up an item familiar and go abjuration-domain wizard(wich suits the lore),
to have a reasonable ammount of spells available.
so the lever basically is SR and saves, plus "wasting" a couple feats, instead of the usual spellcraft rank denial.

having a blast so far, and it doesent feel like a powercreep by any means. ;)

    enjoy

    Warforged Warlock.

First off, it's a fun-on-paper concept, in that you are a robot who shoots magical lasers. You can pretty much stop there, if you like.

Once you get past that, though, there's actually a lot you can do with it. Warlocks, despite being middling-tier, are fairly versatile; they can do reasonable single-target damage, they have a nice toolbox of abilities (e.g. invisibility, flight, UMD and crafting, etc.). Warforged are nice, even if templated they get some really potent abilities, including a barrel of immunities, no need for food or sleep, and the possibility of taking Warforged body feats. You can go Glaivelock or Clawlock, and dive into melee with your mighty metal body and your horrifying eldritch claws and/or glaive, or go Blastlock and be a robot with awesome chaos lasers.

If Warlock isn't your thing, how about Shaper Psion? You've done PsiWar before, Psion would just be de-emphasizing the BAB-ery and emphasizing the castery parts. As an added plus, a Warforged Shaper Psion has excellent means of healing himself (via Psionic Repair Damage), and there are all sorts of nasty tricks people have suggested (such as using Psionic Creation to create toxins and poisonous gasses, to which you are immune).

Not a fan of robots, but like the Psionic bit? What about a Tibbit Telepath? Take the Telepathy ACF to be able to communicate, even in ittybittykittyform. Dip into Thrallherd to get followers and a frankly superior cohort. (Hint: Make him huge.) Grab Mindsight and never be ambushed again, ever.

Or, do something completely out there, and play a melee-oriented Tibbit. Dip CE Soulborn 2 so that you have your full Str even in ittybittykittyform, then pick your facemauling class of choice. I'm partial to Barbarian. Hop into Fist of the Forest and/or Frostrager, as you like. (I'm not sure if their bonus to unarmed strikes will help you in kitty mode. A possibility to consider.) Then be a tiny kitten that goes into a terrifying fury and snaps bones with his adowable widdle paws.
My headache medicine has a little "Ex" inscribed on the pill. It's not a brand name; it's an indicator that it works inside an Anti-Magic Field.

Blue text means sarcasm. Purple text means evil. White text is invisible.

My signature got too big for its britches. So now it's over here!

Meh, I don't like ranger very much. They do have a few nice archery spells.

Points of interest in archery are: Decisive Strike Monk with Elvencraft Longbow ("It's a quarterstaff!"), Iaijutsu with a bow ("arrows can be used as melee weapons!"), and Arcane Archer (With a Splitting Bow and Arrowsplit, 2d4+2 spells, like Enervating Hail of Stone or Acid Storm).

Another fun concept I have always wanted to build would be a Yoda like character.

Elderly, mystic, natural magical abilities, with incredible speed in melee when roused.

You haven't played a sorcerer yet. Why not a sorcerer swiftblade? Max out cha and dex.
Venerable Dragonwrought (ignores aging penalties, so +3 to mental stats)
Desert Kobold (-2 wis instead of -2 Con)

For extra cheese try putting loredrake on top. (DM may throw books at you.)

    Something like this:
    1 Sorcerer/
    3 Dragon Heritage Kobold Paragon/
    1 Spirit Lion Totem Barbarian/
    10 Swiftblade/
    2 Abjurant Champion/
    1 Spelldancer/
    +2 Abjurant Champion/

Edit: I know yoda would probably use psionics, but I don't know how to work those.

Looking over what you've played, I don't see any high-skilled (Rogue type) or dedicated arcane caster characters. For that reason, I'm going to recommend a Beguiler/Wizard/Ultimate Magus.

Pick Illumian in Races of Destiny (pick Krau and anything else), get two flaws (more here) for two extra feats, take Able Learner (Illumians have the Human subtype), Versatile Spellcaster in Races of the Dragon, and Practiced Spellcaster: Beguiler at 1st, and take any metamagic feat at 3rd. Go Beguiler 1/ Wizard 4/ Ultimate Magus 10, then continue advancing Wizard casting with prestige classes if you get past that. At level 15 you'll have Wizard 14 spellcasting and Beguiler 8 spellcasting, at a caster level of 19 and 18 respectively. You can use Versatile Spellcaster to spend two Beguiler spell slots of the same level to cast any spell you know of one level higher, including Wizard spells you've learned, plus it gives you early access to the next higher level of the Beguiler spell list.

Use this Wizard ACF to get Improved Initiative instead of Scribe Scroll, and specialize in Conjuration with Enchantment and either Evocation or Necromancy prohibited (or both with Focused Specialist). You can still cast most of the best Enchantment spells via Beguiler, and Conjuration offers the most versatile selection of spells for one school. Get the Abrupt Jaunt ACF in PH2 for Wizard as well, and remember that you can use it in response to an attack to move out of reach, so their attack automatically misses you.

With Able Learner, the Beguiler class skill list and starting skill points, and a high Int score, you should be able to fill the role of a party Rogue and still have near max Wizard spellcasting. Your spells will give you the means to handle nearly any noncombat situation you'll run into. Otherwise just play it as a God Wizard, and don't forget to have fun. Invisible Spell in Cityscape is superb, and Darkstalker in Lords of Madness is extremely useful if you plan on being sneaky.

You see I read this and in my head im yelling "DO IT! WRECK ALL THE GAMES!" however in my current group these tier one builds are not really viable. The GM doesn't have the patients to deal with them, also everyone else barely scratches tier 3... it is the one draw back.
