Hope you don't mind being botted, Gilraen. The first goblin threat had pretty much been dealt with by Sminerano and you had the wand out, so I decided you used another charge on Filibert like you were talking about in the hangouts.

As Rax kills his mount, the sole rider tries to stand to flee, but Filibert's lance cuts him down. This group of goblins is routed and as the last goblin dog flees north, you suspect there may be another set of stairs in that direction. Then you hear a command in goblin that can pretty much only be charge, as a group races down the stairs. These goblins seem tougher and more able than the last set, and only one is stabbed by Filibert's lance. You hear chanting in goblin coming from the stairs, and then you see what must be the chieftan of the tribe, wearing a breastplate, a dented crown, and brandishing a shortsword as he rides a giant gecko into the fray. The commandos are too winded to immediately attack, but the chieftan is raring to go and slashes Gilraen with its shortsword. You hear more shouting coming from the top of the stairs, but nothing else comes down.

"What's tha-" Filibert turns from the explosive entrance of the new goblin foes to see the fuse burning on the rocket in Sminerano's hands, and cuts himself short. "Oh, gotcha!" and with an insistent tug on Growler's reins, the tiny cavalier pulls his canine steed away from the savage bite being aimed at the lizard mount. Having made his way out of the danger zone, the cavalier eyes the goblin chieftain before thrusting his lance at him!

Round 11

Gilraen twists away from the goblin chieftan riding a giant gecko and shoots one of his cohorts, felling the creature. Sminerano lights a fuse of another firework and looks at Filibert pointedly. The halfling directs his mount out of the range of the blast, but not without attempting parting shots. Growler nearly got a bite on the gecko's foreleg, but the chieftan was mindful of his mount, and jerked the reins to make the gecko move away in time. Then, Sminerano's firework launched directly into Ripnugget's face, burning the chieftan badly. His howls caused a chatter to go on upstairs, as it seems like most of the rest of the tribe had gathered by the stairwell to see who the victor would be. One of the chieftan's warriors ducked behind the other. Rax rushed in just after, but the goblins' erratic movements after the blast caused him to mistime his rapier thrust.

The goblins shook off the effects of the blast and then moved in. Both Rax and Filibert strike at the moving targets, but Rax's attack failed to catch the moving goblin. Filibert's lance caught the gecko in the paw and it screeched but continued to move. The gecko attacked Growler back but the wolf dodged the gecko's tail slam. The goblins focused their attention on the person who hurt them the most, but only the chieftan was able to get through the defenses of the vanara. Then, interwoven with the chanting were the strange words of a goblin spell.

Gilraen hit goblin commando 3 for 8, killing it. Growler's attack on Stickfoot was negated through the use of the mounted combat feat. Sminerano's bomb hit Ripnugget for 14, Stickfoot for 6, goblin commando 1 for 6, and goblin commando 2 for 3. Filibert's AoO on Stickfoot succeeded for 4 damage. The goblin chief did 7 damage to Sminerano.

Filibert's face turns to Gilraen, and he looks about to say something less-than-kind... when suddenly he flings his head back, and lets loose peal after peal of raucous laughter, giggling and chortling incongruously in the serious situation. By some stroke of luck, he manages to remain within Growler's saddle, the steed himself looking distinctly uncomfortable with his master's oddly flailing movements and unusual laughter. Backpedaling away from the melee, Growler bites out at the nearest foe while Filibert tries to master himself, the halfling's crazed and worried eyes distinctly at odds with his maniacal grin and whooping laughs.

The vanara falters under the blow from the goblin chief and nearly falls backwards, only regaining his balance with a wide step back. He finds reason to worry more about Filibert than himself, when the goblin magic takes over his friend's mind. While he grabs a new fuse, his tail moves forward to present the flask to his ready hand, for him to bite the cork off and quickly swallow the contents. The flaming rocket doesn't fly far before it bounces off the goblin nearest to him to crash on the ceiling just above the warchanter's head.

Round 12

Gilraen's arrows are deflected by the goblin chief's breastplate. However, Ripnugget fails to stop Growler's attack on Stickfoot, and falls off the dying giant gecko as it thrashes. Rax notices Sminerano preparing another firework, and quickly points at his ally. The goblin commando looks in fear, and that second was all Rax needed to sidestep and skewer his opponent. Then the firework rushes at the goblin commando in front of Sminerano. The goblin is torn asunder and it's blood and flaming bits splatter all over the room. This causes the warchanter to scream and Ripnugget to howl in frustration. The warchanter abandons her position with a quick roll, but Rax's footwork is quicker and his rapier sinks deep in the warchanter's stomach. She crumples to the floor. Ripnugget seems lost in anger and flails his way back to his feet. Growler bites at him, but the goblin's dented crown deflect the wolf's teeth. Ripnugget then lowers his shortsword and takes a step forward to thrust. The wide blade punches its way through Gilraen's armor, and the elf slumps to the floor.

Chief Ripnugget turns to face Rax, only to get Rax's rapier buried into his armpit. The goblin howls with pain, then his cry is abruptly cut off when Filibert punches him in the back of the head. Growler follows his master's lead and bites the goblin behind the knee, and Ripnugget falls to the ground, his crown bounces off his head and goes rolling into the mess of one of the other goblins. The silence rises upstairs and you hear a collective gasp.

Filibert slides down from the saddle, pausing only once to kick the fallen goblin chieftain solidly in the side on his way to Gilraen. "C'mon, buddy... Hey, you guys still have a wand, right?" The halfling looks up imploringly at Rax and Sminerano. "Next gang could be in here any second!" Taking a heartbeat to collect his lance and stow it, along with his shield, in their straps on Growler's harness, the halfling retrieves his bardiche and moves to the center of the room. His eyes warily flit from entryway to entryway...

Sminerano is momentarily blinded by the rocket's mighty explosion (stronger than I had envisioned, he admits to himself), but his comrades react fast, and perform heroically. He sees the goblin leader collapse with great relief. He calls out, loudly:

"Shall we check out what's going on upstairs? I have a whole lot of rockets left!"

All the same, he steps out next to Gilraen, takes out his wand and calls on its powers.

Rax darts to the fallen chieftain's crown, snatches it up, and then steps to the staircase and hurls it violently upwards to the hallway above. "There! See what'll happen to you, next!" he calls. He hurriedly moves back through the room, stepping around Sminerano's revival of Gilraen to get back to Shallelu. "That should buy us a few seconds... Can you move?" he looks on at the battered ranger with concern, deliberating on using a spell to mend her wounds.

Gilraen's eyes open at the restorative magic used by Sminerano. The goblins upstairs shriek when they see the crown and hear both Sminerano and Rax's words. You hear the patter of feet as they flee.

"Thank you." Shallelu says as your magic begins healing her further. She wraps the dirty rag blanket around her. "I think I can." She slowly stands, using the cell bars for support. "I..." She sways and her shoulder thuds against the wall. "My balance..." You see some sense of recognition wash over her, and she starts crying. You're not sure what emotion they are coming from.

"That gave us some more time, but I don't think we'll have an easy time getting out. Can Shallelu walk?", the vanara calls out to Rax, all the while hurrying to restore Gilraen to a better shape, before he moves on to take care of Growler.

Gilraen returns to consciousness with a quiet groan. On all-fours, looking down at the floor, he mutters, "I told you we should finish quickly...." He carefully rises to his feet while Sminerano continues to administer charges from the wand.

"Oh, Shallelu!" Gilraen calls out to his friend with grief in his voice as she exits the cell chamber on Rax's arm. "Gods, you look like hell. I guess they were not the kindest hosts..." His paltry attempt at humor is likely lost on the rest of the party, but undeterred, Gilraen lets out a short, quiet chuckle.

"Thank you, Sminerano." Something akin to relief floods out of Gilraen as he stretches. At Rax's sudden insistence, Gilraen looks back to the deceased Goblins and their kin.

As the sounds of fleeing goblins fades into the distance, Filibert relaxes. After strapping his bardiche back onto Growler's harness, the halfling steps down, looking for an opportunity to be helpful. With Shallelu up and about under Rax's attentions and Gilraen conscious due to Sminerano's ministrations, the halfling turns to survey the carnage littering the room. With a dispirited sigh, he begins to sift through the newly-ownerless equipment. Pulling aside the potions and the more mundane effects of the goblins, he begins to remove the surprisingly well-made armor and weapons from the goblin chieftain. "Huh. This sword and armor look unusual to you guys?"

So, I'm assuming that at some point we will be able to ID everything. Filibert might hold onto the small +1 sword as an option for close combat, and the masterwork breastplate is -1 ACP compared to Filibert's existing set. Might be good to divide up the potions for emergencies. Other than that, I think we ought to dispense the loot OOC and move forward with the story.

"Hmm..." Rax surveys the weapons as quickly possible, tossing loose change and items of obvious value into his pack for later. "That shield is of uncommonly fine make, as are those weapons" he nods to Orik's shield and the goblin commando's horsechoppers, respectively. He picks up the great bow of the fallen bugbear, tries to draw it back, and gives up with a shake of his head. "That's well-made too, but you'd have to be giant like he was to use it properly! You finish up here - I'm going to check upstairs..." While his companions finish mending their wounds and gathering the equipment, Rax pads softly up the steps to the upper level, listening and watching for any sign of an ambush...

Quickly, Sminerano opens and sniffs each potion, then shakes it up a little to assess the transparency and consistency of the liquid. "All of them are for healing. These are the stronger ones, this last one is a bit more banal. A good find!"

"Now, do we try to return the way we came? If so we need to be careful about the bridge, check it for both ambush and traps... Or do you think there may be another way out?"

You head up into the trophy room, but don't see any goblins. You nearly trip over the goblin crown, which now sits on the floor like a strange bear trap. You look out the double doors and the bridge and courtyard also seem clear. Your ropework on the bridge seems untouched.

Shallelu reaches a hand up out of the blanket to shift her hair down over the ruined part of her face. She sees the corpse of Bruthazmus, quietly picks up a goblin shortsword and then drives it into the bugbear's eye. She starts shaking and crying, kneeling by the dead bugbear, her hand still on the shortsword, the other clutching at the knot of the blanket. Her legs and feet are very dirty, and the bottoms are black with grime. Some of her toes are also missing, and the stumps have healed poorly. "You...you can't let the rest live!" she whispers.

Gilraen falls to his knees beside Shallelu's crouching form. For several seconds, he says nothing, just providing himself a shoulder to lean against and cry. He helps to hold her for several heartbeats, while Rax heads upstairs. Respectfully, he gestures Filibert and Sminerano away- they are unlikely to relate well, at the moment, to the near-eternal outlook of the Elves. "Succumbing to the ugly allure of vengeance will not return your ear, Shallelu. Perhaps father Zantus can help- I have heard stranger things of the divine than such rejuvenation. Let us get out of here; they will not be so bold to enact any plans without their-" A sudden realization trikes Gilraen.

"Hells!" The unusually curse takes his companions by surprise, but is not diminished for its infrequency. "This beast is not their leader!" he cries. "Nualia is still here somewhere, and she is the threat that drives these craven fiends to such wanton aggression against Sandpoint! Damnit! Sminerano, catch him before he gets too far!"

Still consoling Shallelu, Gilraen urges his companions to regroup. "We are not yet done here," he adds with a note of finality.

"Er... The first thing is to get out of here with her alive, isn't it?" Sminerano hesitates only for an instant. Recognizing the urgency in his friend's voice, he runs after Rax, as quickly and quietly as possible, to ask him to come back.

Shallelu's sudden driving of the sword into the fallen bugbear's eye pulls Filibert's attention from his idle poking about at goblin corpses, and he seems to notice her injuries for the first time. He watches Gilraen's attempts to soothe the woman shamefacedly. At Gilraen's sudden recollection of the apparent leader of this band, the halfling stands tall, a look of determination taking its place on his face. "If this 'Nualia' person is hanging around, I figure she heard this commotion, don't you think? Maybe I ought to stay in front. Ain't gonna surprise nobody at this point..." With steps more nimble than seem possible, given his heavy armor, the halfling steps up into the saddle and turns to face Shallelu. "Any idea where she is?"
