Let's discuss Cave Story, the amazing indie game!

I did a run last year but what with all the buzz about the possibility that the main character, Quote, will be in Smash, I decided to dust off the Cave Story-playing fingers and have myself another go at it.

This time through, I wanted to save Curly Brace and do the Hell run. After reading a walkthrough for the Curly Brace part (I didn't use the walkthrough entirely), I successfully saved her! Too bad it increases the difficulty of the final cave, where I am right now. Jesus Christ, this must be the hardest platforming challenge I've done yet other than I Wanna Be The Guy. It sure doesn't help that all of my weapons are now at level 1. Hopefully they all return to their previous levels when I leave the cave ...

Nope, your weapons have dropped to level 1 and you'll have to do with whatever you can scrounge up. Luckily, the balcony is basically a free recovery, there's not too many enemies and they all drop plenty of shards, in addition to the house that has life and ammo restore.

And Last Cave (Hidden) isn't that hard, it's just a difficulty spike from the rest of the game. Well, as long as you have one of the two weapons that's really good at level 1, though the sword can carry you as well.

Just wait for the Sanctuary. Hidden Last Cave is a difficulty spike from everything before. Sanctuary is a difficulty spike from Hidden Last Cave. Yeah. *has at least gotten to Ballos a few times*

... I'm scared. But I'm glad that there's a challenge. The normal game isn't that hard, so it'll be nice to get my Cave Story skills tested. (Let's see if I'm still saying that when I actually get there. )

The whole OST is great. Balrog's Theme I especially like, but there are lots of amazing songs. I'm so glad that the developer actually included an OST with the game (or at least in the freeware version I've been playing).

Yeah, I was able to get past the cave and I also discovered a little area close to the top of the wall with lots of shard-droppers and ammo. A couple of trips there followed by a visit to the house to make all of the items respawn was all it took to get all of my weapons back up to level 3. And yes, I do buy 100 Hyper Potions before facing the Elite Four in Pokemon.

I didn't have the nemesis, but I did have the sword, which was really good. I think that my problem is that I forgot about the aforementioned hidden area, so I was trying to level up the weapon that I used most, the Machine Gun, to level 3, even though it isn't that good at all at level 1.

All this talk of the Sanctuary is *really* making me want to get to it. An apprehensive excitement, I'd suppose.

This. You can actually get a better weapon, one that charges instead of leveling up (think Megaman or Metroid) and fires giant laser beams called the Spur by handing your origianl gun back to its creator. He fixes it up, and gives it back in its final form.

It, along with Nemesis, is the perfect weapon for BSS. Both work perfectly at level 1, and it drops you down just like the Final Cave II.

Also? I've actually beaten this game with the true ending. Good god it took forever. B is just an enormous bag of... Annoying, and the fact you have to fight HP right beforehand is just plain cruel. (Not to mention I forgot the P in HP and got dead the first time I beat it.)

Actually, I saw a speedrunner use the machine gun... granted, the Spur is way better for dealing with those damn archers.

Oh, I know about the spur and the snake. I just looooove to point the Machine Gun downward and use it to get around. Combined with the booster 2.0, it's fun as hell. Granted, it won't be fun when I'm in hell, but still.

So, update on my game (sorry for double-posting): I managed to beat the Doctor, the Undead Core, and Misery. I've gotten to the part with the cherubim after the first part of Sacred Passage, and I constantly die even on the first bit of the first part. Please tell me that there are some save spots. Please.

It... might be possible to trigger the good ending conditions without the proper jump in the Labyrinth, but I don't think so.

You don't need it. It helps a ton, though, because that jump is hell.

No, not at all. The jump in the Labyrinth is difficult, but doable, without it, and there's a save point right there so you can try repeatedly easily. Heck, the point where you need to jump without the machine gun is actually marked on the ground.

You do need to make that jump, as you need to in order to get the booster 2.0 and you need that for the good ending, but as I said, that's doable.

Yeah, I remember now. I did do that jump once without it because I didn't think about using it. I was lucky I made it the first time.

Also, I have not yet actually beat the game because I accidentally got the good ending by missing the falling jetpack (and person). Now I insist on beating the game for the good ending before actually beating it normally.

What difficulty are you on?

I made it to the last boss there without the pot on... on... I don't remember what difficulty I'm playing. It might be normal, or it might be easy. I actually have no clue.
