Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: Spectator war update
Our naval fleet embarks on a secret mission of secretiveness.
Meanwhile we ravage the Shoshone countryside, destroying plantations, and mines for resources for the Great English empire.
Meanwhile our non mounted forces, attempt to meet up.
While our crossbows engage the savages!
The defense forces look for Shoshoney savages looking to pillage.
As our slaves work on repairing the damages fighting the Iroquois savages caused.
TO CHINA!!!!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: Spectator sunday update
The french diplomat came to us today. His eyes were clouded. We thought nothing of it, until we remember. Threads of steel and lightening. The robotic overlords had a coup over France. We thus declined this robot's offer.
The citizens of Jamestown cultivate more of the wilderness.
Meanwhile, our citizens lie back and think of England
The Dutch accept our offer of mutual open borders.
And Portugal seems to be in a economic war with the Dutch for Cahokia's loyalty.
Plans for Operation 2012's coming early! Are in motion. We are not entirely sure why Queen Elizabeth has chosen to call it this, but we trust her wisdom.
We present to you. The story of the loneliest Conquistador. It went through Dutch lands, and embarked. The end.
Our town defense forces report no problems.
As our captured labor works on silver mines.
And more merchants go to China!
We are proud to tell glorious Elizabeth that we almost have a professional army.
Why are you here.
Maps on Plymouth, working on more naval maps.
Maps on Roanoke, doing the same.
Jamestown continues working on a crossbowman.
St.George also adding to the army.
The Iroquois capital is working on a mint.
Here we see the form of government of the English monarchy.
Queen Elizabeth is most well-liked. And the English nation is not worst in anything.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: NetherlandsWe thank you for this information. The proud Mayan Empire has little hope of defeating the English, should they invade with naval support. Our coastlines are too narrow and should they get the first strike in the combined firepower could decimate our crossbowmen. We have conferred with the Scholar-Priests and they feel the preservation of our lands justifies great sacrifice.
We are prepared to offer you the settlement of Chichen Itza near our holy mountain in exchange for a defensive pact. We hope such agreement would deter the invasion, but should England attack we would expect your support, such as you could reasonably lend given your minor presence on our side of the sea.
OOC: I'm willing to fight, but I'll lose eventually. At least this way it might deter the war, and if war happens I'll prevent England from getting my Natural Wonder by giving it to you instead. If the deal is not sufficient for you I understand but it's a large sacrifice for my small empire.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayaOur sincerest apologies, but we simply cannot go to war with England at the moment. We realize the gravity of the situation, and the cost this offer has for your nation to even consider. Unfortunately, our fleet is currently occupied with escorting Shoshone treasure across the ocean, and without naval support it will be difficult for even our army to fight them off. Were we to accept, it would be nothing but an empty promise so that we can steal your land instead of the English.
Our offer to supply you with advanced units still stands, however. That way we can help you survive until we are able to interfere more directly.
Spoiler: PortugalPractically the entirety of the English armed forces are currently right off the coast of the Maya island. While they are occupied with these savages, we believe it would be an opportune moment to check their influence in the new world, don't you agree? Many thanks to Assassin 89 for this avatar!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: SpainWe find ourselves with English frigates off our coast and little place to hide from their cannon. The Mayan scholar-priests foresee devastation and much bloodshed. We will fight the invaders with all our might but we expect we can do little against the technologies that your people bring to our land.
We have considered something unthinkable, the sale, for gold, of our sacred mountain. With your funds we could modernize our military and perhaps hire mercenaries. Know that English naval forces lie off the coast of Chichen Itza as this offer reaches you, and they may not balk at taking the city from a fellow overseas nation, but if it shall fall into foreign hands we would prefer to get some benefit from it, and spare our citizens the bloody consequences of war.
Spoiler: IncaWe have word from the Netherlands and our own scouts have confirmed English frigates off our shores. We have heard only distant rumors of conquest from this overseas land but they have already destroyed our fellow civilizations to the north. The Mayan prophets foresee only doom, but we will fight them with every ounce of our strength.
We know with the Spanish on your borders you are unlikely to be able to spare much aid, but any that you could we would appreciate.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayaYour offer is acceptable. I offer you all my current gold reserves as well as subsidies of 30 gold a turn for as long as you fight the vile English. Alternatively, since you may simply die atop a hill of gold as the cannons sing about you, I may be willing to part with some cannon of my own in lieu of the subsidies. So Much for the Glory of Rome, a Crusader Kings 2 Let's Play

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: SpainOOC: Okay, well, I already took my turn and sent a rather larger GPT offer, but I'll gladly send a deal refunding the difference. I believe we lack the Declaration of Friendship for lump gold exchanges, so I was unable to put that on the table, but we could settle that over the next few turns.
I suspect that a formal declaration of war will happen on England's next turn, and whether they're going for Chichen Itza or my capital I'm unsure, but time may be of the essence, otherwise I'd suggest just modifying the offer and sending it back rather than this complicated refund scheme.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
I'm sorry folks, I've been hit by a nasty case of RL and no longer have enough time to do everything I want. I have to scale down, and GMR12 is the game that takes by far the most of my time. I hope I won't have to abandon everything, but I definitely have to abandon this one. It's been fun while it lasted. Enjoy the rest of the game!

Still, we must try. Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: SpainGood queen Isabella,
As you are no doubt aware, the English have invaded our western shores; already their armies stand at the walls of Tiwanuku. We must confess while our wise men predicted such an attack long ago, we had rather expected it would come from you. You have proven truer friends and better neighbors than we had thought; upon consideration, we have decided that if our sacred lands must fall into the hands of an empire from across the sea, we would rather you hold them than greedy Victoria.
We come to you with an offer and a request. If and when the battle for Cusco becomes hopeless, we intend to turn the cities of Machu and Ollantamboyo over to your custody. In return, we ask only that you not take advantage of our weakened borders as our garrison moves to the western front.
If you are willing to not only stand aside but pledge your forces to the defense of Cusco, we would be most grateful; should that city fall despite our efforts, we would do our best to see that it goes to you rather than the English. We realize, however, that you may not wish to risk the lives of your men for foreigners, and admit there is little we can offer if we successfully repel the English.
What say you?Avatar by GryffonDurime. Thanks!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: EnglandOur foreign policy is not dictated by you. We handle all things in good faith and are always happy for a good deal. Montezuma insulted us one too many times to be tolerated and had to be relieved of his heathen burden. The Mayans came to us in fear, seeking protection and patronage, and offered a fair price in exchange.
Spoiler: IncaYour offer and request are reasonable. However, to truly cement this deal, we will need a declaration of friendship. I can offer some of my finest warriors to serve as Condottieri upon signing. So Much for the Glory of Rome, a Crusader Kings 2 Let's Play

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: Spectators: Turn 100 update—50 turns remainAn overview of the cities of the Portuguese Empire
Lisbon; Porto Seguro; Sao Vicente; Recife. The bulk of my army is in Porto Seguro, ready to march north and invade the Protestant-controlled North America. I also have a small defense force in Sao Vicente to harass the smaller Dutch colonies in the area. Unfortunately, the English decided to invade the Inca, and declaring war on them will likely turn their attention to the barely-defended Recife—still, a small price to pay if I can wipe them off the map in the north.
An overview of the condition of the Portuguese Empire
Demographics: Top ratings in literacy and military strength. This is a good sign for the coming invasion.
Military: This is the bulk of my military, stationed in Porto Seguro and ready to strike at the cities of the Protestant heresy. (Also included: progress towards our next great leap of Science.)
Technology: One turn remains until I finish Line-of-Battle and begin researching Piracy, with a Great Scientist due partway through that. Before long, I should have Advanced Piracy as well and can start producing Sea Beggars.
Policies: As reported earlier, I have taken Total War and Conquest of the New World to aid in taking the whole of North America. For my next policy, due in twenty to twenty-five turns (depending on how much the Maya interfere with my alliance with the Inuit... or was it the Mixtec?), I think I will take either City Sack or Ransom, depending on how the war goes.
I am almost ready to declare war on the English and the Dutch. With the player behind the Dutch resigning, my job should be much easier, though I will likely lose the city I founded in the south. My first order of business will be to capture the city of New Amsterdam for its iron resource, which will allow me to construct another two frigates (well, Ships of the Line at that point). Most of the other cities will be razed to provide treasure.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: Spectator sunday war update!
Queen Elizabeth is confused! Shouldn't they really have done this last turn?
This city state is pissed we're trespassing. It's for the greater good.
One city state hopes we threaten it's rivals. We will consider it.
And the same city state betrays a civilized nation for a minor nation of the world.
And the war against the Incas start.
But even with the capture of a city.
War never ends.
Let's get the general to safety.
Queen Elizabeth sends other caravels closer to home.
But closer to home, there are no mentions of war.
And we have trade with china.
And city states!
Here we see the glorious tech tree.
Maps of our capital.
And the colonies. Taken or otherwise.
And our social policies.
We are best and worst in nothing!
And information on the other nations of the world.
It is turn 100. My plans are simple. Murder the Incans, and anyone else I think might overtake my lead. And maybe spain too if I have the time.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: PortugalWhile the Maya are amenable to your agreement in general our scholar-priests question what purpose you intend our Iron for. We have little contact with your people and while you have not yet shown hostility we are wary of foreigners due to among other things the war with our friends the Inca.
If you intend to join the English in this war we cannot in good conscience agree to the trade. If you intend to use our resources to take on another foreign nation then we have no issue with the trade. We are not declining the offer but we will not accept until you clarify your position.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Apologies for missing the last several turns, everyone. I've hit a glitch with unit promotion where the game keeps deselecting the unit as soon as I activate it, which is making my turns impossible to complete. I've just conducted a turn skip from the GMR website itself to see if that will fix it, and if not, then I'll surrender out of the game next time my turn rolls around.
LPs that I like to think I will get back to some day.
