Default Erfworld resembles 'Warlords' the game....

I don't know if it is just me, but I am finding striking resemblances between Erfworld and the 'Warlords' series of games, produced in the nineties by Australian gaming company SSG (Strategic Studies Group).

Even down to the 8-stacking army groups.

    Anyone else notice the resemblance?

8-size stacks aren't exaclty anything revolutionary. Off the top of my head, the Age of Wonders series also uses them.

The other similarities, however, are pretty... eerie? Is that the right word?

Check out my first creation, the Wrathling. Look at it, comment on it, help balance it, vote for it. Any help is appreciated.

I believe an Erfworld mod was being made for one of the Warlords games. Not sure what happened to it....

Sorry jindra34, I don't read every post made on these forums, and a quick search of the Erfworld threads revealed none with a title containing the word "warlords".

And Demented, was it possibly for the Freelords game project?

Found out why it couldn't be found.

It's based on Battle for Wesnoth, not a Warlords game.
Was fairly easy to find, since it happened very early on in this forum, and the forum itself has only 7 pages of threads. (For shame, Erfworld fans!)

    Battle for Erfworld
    Unfortunately, the idea aborted itself.

Bha, there are a lot of games just like that. Ever heard of "Age of Wonders"?

Chek it out, it might scare you how much it resemblances to Erfworld xD

Hmmm, at first I thought you were talking about the Warlord card game.

I think it was the same way for Chronopia if I'm not mistaken (now a long dead tabletop strategy game that was billed as an inexpensive alternative to Warhammer... beautiful pieces for 1/5 the price of Warhammer, but I digress... and lament... ;) ). Anyways, I think their units grouped in up to 8 if I'm not mistaken. It might have been 4 though... it's been so long since I've played it.

I'm also seeing similarities to Heroes of Might and Magic.

I think the point is that Erfworld resembles fantasy strategy games in general, because there's A LOT of them out there. There's bound to be resemblances to a lot of them.
One could argue that it resembles Master Of Magic, if one was inclined...

I love trying to find similarities to Erfworld and Warlords (I've only played Warlords 3:DLR)

Warlords 2 Deluxe edition was the best, although the first Warlords game holds a very special place in my heart as the first strategy game I ever played AND understood at the same time
