Does Warblade's Weapon Aptitude work with Racial Weapon Familiarity?

Hey GITP,

As many of you will know, the Warblade class from Tome of Battle has a class feature called Weapon Aptitude, which by exercising with a weapon for fifteen minutes they can change the target of all weapon-specific feats (Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Weapon Mastery, etc.) to a different type of weapon. Like Weapon Focus (Longsword) to Weapon Focus (Greataxe)

This ability also works with Exotic Weapon Proficiency. My question is, can races with Racial Weapon Familiarity with Exotic weapons (Like Dwarves have with Dwarven War Axes and Dwarven Urgoshes) use Weapon Aptitude to become proficient with any Exotic weapon by RAW?

The relevant text for weapon aptitude is 'Each morning, you can spend 1 hour in weapon practice to change the designated weapon for any feat you have that applies only to a single weapon (such as Weapon Focus)'.

So no, weapon aptitude doesn't work for Weapon Familiarity since it isn't a feat.

It works in the sense that if for some reason you had the Martial Weapon Proficiency feat, you could change it to a racial weapon, or change it from a racial weapon to some different martial weapon. But I can't see why you'd bother when Warblades are already proficient with all martial weapons. Seems redundant.

Yes, well, the coolness of a spiked chain would seem to be beside the point, as it is an exotic weapon, not a martial weapon, so you can't take Martial Weapon Proficiency for it, unless you have a racial weapon familiarity with the spiked chain, in which case you don't need to take the feat because you're already proficient with it as a Warblade.

I guess Warblades are only proficient with martial melee weapons, so perhaps you might take the feat for a martial ranged weapon. Maybe you have a mix of Warblade and Cleric levels, and you have a Martial Weapon Proficiency (longsword) feat from the War domain, so you switch it over to, like, longbows.

Really, the big advantage is only having to take EWP once, instead of having to take it for every single weapon.

Start with EWP (Spiked chain). Get bored and pick up something even more exotic than that, switch it out. Good times.

Actually, it being an exotic weapon is exactly the point. As a warblade isn't efficient with it.
If the OP's trick would work (which I agree: it doesn't), you could be a dwarf warblade, and each morning switch your Dwarven urgosh proficiency into a spiked chain proficiency.

Having said that: A human comes with any weapon proficiency if you want (if you use your bonus feat for it), and weapon aptitude works just fine with it.

Yeah, I just looked in the PHB, and the text there says that you don't gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency with them, you simply treat them as martial weapons. So that's void.
