    Default Doppelganger

    Hey guys,
I can't seem to find the book which contains the Doppelganger with no LA.
If anyone knows what book it might be in and ccan point me in that direction it would be much appreciated!

Do you mean the Changeling from Races of Destiny?

That might be it, but flicking through, I can only seem to find the actual doppelganger race with the +4 LA...

Changeling also appears in MM3, if I recall correctly, and in the Eberron main book.

EDIT TO ADD: while they're mentioned on occasion in RoD, changelings aren't actually given a write-up in that book.

If you take a Changeling and slap on five levels of Cabinet Trickster (RoE 139) you basically get a Doppelganger+. You get the shape changing and the detect thoughts as well as nifty 'thought tricks' (daze an enemy as a swift action, stun them, disrupt spellcasting, etc.) as well as any nifty class features you get from classes before the Cabinet Trickster (see the changeling rogue substitution level from RoE 121). Only things the Doppleganger gets over that is +4 natural armor, darkvision, and immunity to charm and sleep. Unfortunately, all of that is coupled with a +4 level adjustment and 4 racial HD, so a Changeling cabinet trickster is by far the better option.

I also always thought that a changling rogue/cabinet trickster/mindspy would be awesome, for subterfuge and combat. The only hard part is getting concentration for mindspy, maybe a level or two of warshaper which would also net you some cool stuffs.

If you are looking for the Doppelganger with no LA (rather than +0 LA) then I think you mean the Ethereal Doppelganger in MMII(which has ECL n/a since it lacks LA).

You can snag concentration as a class skill with the martial study feat (diamond mind)
