Top-left is a SOLID expression. facial parts are in the right places and "pushed" (exaggerated) to a comfortable degree that would make excellent use in animation.

Settlement is when the contracts are actually exchanged and I get the keys. It's gonna be on the 9th.

I'm actually going to make furnishing my house an artistic project and I'm going to be posting photos, costings and ideas in this thread as I go about doing it. I'd like to use this space to talk about my design philosophies and such.

Foreshortening is weird because of how things look in 2D. Good attempt there, I can see some of it comparing his head and feet.

    Day 1597: elaborate setup

Thanqol is now the proud owner of a little two bedroom unit in the suburbs of Canberra. Even got the first thunderstorm of the season to help commemorate the occasion. BOOM! Holy crap!

I also celebrated by spending my leftover savings on a brand new, state of the art, top of the line Alienware death machine PC to replace this aging pile of junk. I also started the wheels turning on getting power and enough internet to run cat videos all day. Now I just need to buy a fridge, a couch and a table and I'm set for life, dawg.

    Congrats on the house!

What you wrote on dA felt very familiar. I've been looking for a new place for a long time, and there's just so much crap where I keep thinking, I'm not going to even bother doing anything about this until I get that place. Let it rot, let it wait, let everything fall apart around me, it'll be wiped off the face of the earth when I get a new place. Damn, I know how that goes. I'm just waiting for the inheritance from my grandmother, which should be any month now, then I'm out of here. I can't wait to be in your situation, to walk into an empty home and make it mine.

For the longest time I figured I just wanted a bigger apartment, and there are benefits to renting, but lately I've spent a lot of time looking at houses too. It's hard to decide. I know what I want, but finding what I want for a price I can pay ... not easy.

    Sorry about your loss.

I will say I'm glad what I wrote resonated. I always worry about my Seasonal blogs because they are by design really pretentious and personal, but I'm trying my best to capture my own current neurotic behaviour and hopefully master it by speaking its name.

I'm ashamed to admit I bought the first house I walked into. I just came in through the door and went 'yep this is me'.

I have no useful advice because I've never rented so can't speak to the difference, but I am very neurotic about debt. Debt is like... it just gnaws on my mind, I hate having it, and I'm already thinking in terms of 'get everything you need to live and the cease all savings while you pay down as much debt as possible as fast as possible'. I live like a monk, indulging only in certain carefully selected luxuries while channelling as much money as I can into savings or debt repayments. My life goal is to reach 50 with everything I want and zero debt of any kind.

You never know what resonates with others.

All the daydreaming and planning you described, I used to do that as a child too, except I used to dream about ships instead of houses, mostly. Reading your blog made me wonder why I stopped doing this sort of dreaming. I think it's because I eventually got it in my head that the things I dreamed of weren't things I could get, that I just didn't have the money to make my dreams come true. Such practicalities never entered my mind as a kid, and as an adult it was the opposite. It's kinda nice to think that maybe it's finally possible, and just dream of the possibilities.

I like to indulge myself, and I'm not especially good at saving for later, but I've become very concerned about debt too and I'm careful to have as little as possible and pay it off as quickly as I can too. I pay almost everything cash these days. A house is a little too big for that, though.

I don't recall a lot, to be honest. It was 20+ years ago, and it really hasn't occupied my thoughts since.

My dad used to take me and my sister sailing/fishing (ten wild horses couldn't get our mom on a ship, though). When I was around 9 he bought an old boat of his own (actually I think he had one before which he sold, but my memory is hazy on that point), and I remember spending hours just lying on the couch, staring into space and letting my mind sail on imaginary seas with that ship. I just remember I had lots of vivid imaginations and daydreams, and spent tons of time looking through magazines at ships and fishing equipment. Frequently visited the docks and the fishing store too, even though I didn't really have any money, I just liked to look and imagine the possibilities.

Fishing stuff is so weird and alien isn't it? A fishing shop is like a gift shop on an alien planet. Were you interested in sailing ships or modern ones?

I love brown as a colour. It can transition anywhere between gold to crimson and subtle differences are so easy to notice. But you're right in that she is very ordinary looking. I don't think that's accidental; she's always been plain since I started drawing her and I always got the sense that she was making a statement with it.
