    Default Riverside 17

Riverside, a small, modern city, some ways away from the sprawl of Inside. The city has always been in a state of flux since it came to be a part of the Nexus. Powers have risen and fallen, disasters have struck, and the climate has always been unstable. Because of all this, the people of Riverside are a hardy lot. They know what it takes to survive, and it's not always pleasant. Riverside sits on the edge of the Nexus, so while it's still prone to the strangeness common there, it's far more stable than other parts of the Nexus. A city like this is not a safe an stable place, but for many it's home and for some it's even opportunity.

    Welcome to Riverside.

    Current Events
    • The EI power plant in Westside has been taken. The terrorists responsible are demanding Vyrn or they will detonate the plant, and the rest of the city with it.
    • Tenebras as an organization has dissolved and it's remnant have been absorbed into Malechenar. Consequently, Malechenar now governs both the north and west sectors of the city.
    • Malechenar has hired MERC to arrange for security in parts of the city. Mostly Westside, but the hired mercenaries can be found in other parts of the city as well.
    • A new party has been elected in Eastside, lead by their new mayor, Amyria.

    The Districts
    Spoiler
    Show
    Northside
Northside is the most prosperous part of the city. Many of the city's wealthiest live there, especially toward the center of the district. There a castle floats in the sky, housing the government of most of the entire city, Malechenar. Northside benefits from the careful eye of its rulers. There have been great strides taken toward making it the safest and most attractive part of the city.

    Eastside
Eastside is mostly a middle-to-lower class, densely populated area. It's fairly multicultural, even by Nexus standards, and inhabited by a wide range of species and cultures. It has been a poorer area for most of it's existence, but fairly recently they have rallied under a democratic government and, as a result, their lot has improved.

    Southside
Southside has fallen far behind the development of the rest of the city. First it was emptied by it's queen's parting, and then claimed by villains. Now, however, the remaining major powers of the city have begun to lay their claim to the once empty territory. New construction has sprung up and people are gradually moving back in. It isn't free from turmoil, but progress is being made.

    Westside
Westside is unique compared to the rest of the districts because it is covered by a cloak of darkness. During the day the Light of Evolution, an artificial sun suspended in the sky, provides light. However, it is still home to a higher density of people that are adverse to the light for a number of reasons.

The district has fallen on hard times since its government was absorbed into Malechenar. While the peace is being maintained, to an extent, it isn't given the same level of attention that Northside is, and even the new development in Southside has more attention. As a result, it can be quite unstable there at times.

    Places Within
Riverside is a very modern city, and thus a person can find most of the expected amenities. All manner of stores, a hospital, parks and playgrounds, churches, you name it. Most of these places are run and attended to by the residents of the city, regular people without players to guide them most of the time. Players are free to invent and discard these places and the people in them as suits the needs of their roleplaying. Some have been named already, Moth Park, the Golden Flagon Tavern, Sawyer's Inn, but many more are out there.

There are a number of places that have been defined by players, and can be observed and interacted with. Some of these have been listed below for reference.

    • Malechenar Castle Shadowcaller
      Spoiler
      Show
      The castle is a gigantic structure, far larger than any other building in the city and somehow defying the laws of gravity by levitating right over it. This castle have no visible courtyard or entrances however, just a myriad of strained glass archway-shaped windows surrounded by round black walls. The walls are arranged like gigantic archways which supports structure with smaller archways on top which in turn supports other other archways which builds up the entire wall which is connected by an myriad of spires and build in passage ways. {Reference Image}

There are five much larger spires coming off from the main structure, reaching up into the air like spikes. Four of them end with large diamond shaped objects made of a red glass-like material. The fifth and tallest spire is in the very middle of the structure and could be called a tower instead as it's much wider than the others and ends with five smaller spires arranged in a similar ways as the ones in the castle itself.

All over Malechenar sit gargoyles upon ledges which seem to have been specifically made for them, their black skin blending in perfectly into the building.
    • Temple of Dalachrech: Earl of Purple
      Spoiler
      Show
This building closely resembles all the other semi-detached houses along this road. The temple takes up both halves of the house, however; although the building has been designed such that the halves don't match to maintain the illusion of separate owners. It has a red tile roof and is constructed from red brick, although the left half has been painted white. There's a pair of garages and two front doors, both of which work.

The temple is a private location. Please PM Earl of Purple before visiting.
Posts for the temple should occur in this thread.

    • Abandoned Hospital: Shadowcaller
      Spoiler
      Show
Eastside Hospital was build on the ground of the old hospital which burned to the ground long ago. But after strange things started to happen inside the building and a financial crisis, the building was abandoned and all it's patients moved to the Northside Hospital. The building was supposed to have converted into office space but by that time people had started to refuse to set their foot in the haunted halls.
So now the building stands empty, the only residents are wild animals. Yet despite no one living there there have still been reports of strange things happening at night to the degree that even the homeless has chosen to stay out of the building that is said to be haunted by the ghosts of those who perished in that fire many years ago.
The building itself consists of three wings and a separate maternity ward building which remained after old hospital burned to the ground.
The majority of the windows are cracked and there and the empty corridors are filled with junk left behind by the staff as well as graffiti and old rags left by the homeless (or teenagers).
    • Cosiellio's Temple: Halae
      Spoiler
      Show
There's a small temple here that just finished construction last week. It's a fairly plain thing, more utilitarian than ostentatious, but it's made of marble and granite, giving it a glowing white appearance in the sun, with Cos' holy symbol in a large carved statue above the front door. It's a shield with feathered wings imposed along the front, giving it the impression of a heart. It's carved impeccably; it must have been done with magic.

A few of Cos' faithful are here almost all the time - given the informal nature of the temple, everybody drifts in to say a few prayers whenever they're feeling like they should, or whenever they have the time. Cos himself regularly visits, of course, and answers prayers directly.
    • Fallow’s Furry & Feathered Friends: Earl of Purple
      Spoiler
      Show
The shop is lit up with bright lights and neon advertising. Around the store is a secure, electrified fence and there's four watch towers in the corners. The gate is near a large, secure-looking building within which are three ogre guards. Inside lie four warehouses, a large collection of aquariums and gigantic tanks, a squat and ugly toilet block and three seperate bunkers for customers to evacuate into should something more dangerous escape, such as a smilodon from the Mammal House, a wyvern from the Reptile House, a giant carnivorous slug from the Invertebrate House or something worse. Patrolling the wide, open spaces are the occasional group of six uniformed humans armed with net-guns. Slaves can be bought here if one asks the right questions.
    • Light's Heart: Shadowcaller
      Spoiler
      Show
The citadel rises up like something taken from a sci-fi movie. The walls are golden colored, untainted by age and dirt. Like something that was just build just recently. Five towers have been built into the wall, standing no less then 40 feet tall, looking like they have been cut out from the same stone. Above the towers rises the citadel itself, completely square in form and made of the same golden stone it have numerous arrow slits carved out at the upper floors. Leading around it's form is a wooden staircase going from the top of the citadel to the courtyard below. The only visible entrance is the massive gate made of obsidian colored wood which stands wide open, inviting anyone inside.
    • Parliament Buildings: Recaiden
      Spoiler
      Show
Converted from several buildings in the middle of the district, it serves as the seat of the administration. The Mayor resides there.

Not far from the Town Hall, the small circular new building serves as the meeting place for the People's Parliament. It includes a large hall for meetings as well as offices for all the members.

The main administration building for the Hunter force. The Hunter Commander's office is located there, as well as the rest of the administrative staff.

    Southside
    • Lotus Gardens: Wolfbane
      Spoiler
      Show
The Lotus Gardens are a veritable Eden, a paradise in the middle of an otherwise fairly "normal" city. The entire section appears carved of white marble and smells of sweets, a hint of sweat, and exotic flowers, inviting all to come and stay in the Lotus Garden's Embrace.

Home to the Slaanesh Cult "The Masks", the population is full of exotic and beautiful appearing people who are always welcoming. Though many just live around the area, actual cultists seem few and far between, wearing their Masks as they patrol the streets as guards.

In the very center is the Mask Temple, a cathedral of white marble and stained glass windows, surrounded by paired statues of lovers locked in eternal embrace.
    • AMENside: AMEN Players
      Spoiler
      Show
A small portion of the district that was taken over AMEN. A number of structures were constructed here by the organization. Though it is quiet, most common people are reluctant to get to near to it and there has been very little construction near it.

The club is quite easily noticed by the huge neon sign outside, Pulse was easily recognized as Riversides largest nightclub. Beyond the line and the bouncer outside is a classic club layout with a large dance floor with loud music and flashing lights.

In a slightly more calm area of the club is the bar run by an one-eyed bartender called Ryo.

There are two stairs leading up to the upper floor where it's easier to talk and drink.

The atmosphere is pretty heavy as you walk inside with techno music playing very loud.
    • Evolution Industries: Darkcomet
      Spoiler
      Show
Three main buildings make up Evolution Industries' holdings in Riverside. The first is the main administrative building. A nondescript office building bearing the EI logo.

Next there is the Evolution Industries power plant. It is a heavily reinforced building that houses a Class 3 MACE unit. It is an incredibly potent power source that provides power to most of Riverside.

Lastly there is the Light of Evolution's control center. The artificial sun that lights up Westside's days is maintained by EI and powered by it's power plant. A bright blue beam of energy links the structure and the sun above.

Posts for EI's property should occur in this thread.
    • MagMart: Lord Magtok
      Spoiler
      Show
If the individual entering has any sort of familiarity with the other MagMart, back when it was its own building apart from Mallside, they'll probably notice that this Riverside one doesn't look anywhere near as glamorous as its predecessor. It's a modest purple brick building, the glass display windows aren't even properly bulletproof, and the smelly homeless people usually employed to wander around about the front of the store in a wacky MagMascot costume with an enormous cyborg head are mysteriously absent.

That said, you can still find just about everything here that you can at the Mallside store. Curtains to carpets, macaroni to monkeys on motorcycles, groceries to zombies garlic. The staff is always happy to help (or else), and if you aren't entirely satisfied with your shopping experience, you can pay a small fee to watch the MagMart employee of your choosing get fired out the MagMart complimentary employee morale cannon. Except in this store, the 'morale cannon' is really more of a morale bazooka, and while it's still fun to watch, it's nowhere near as charming.
    • Toy Tinker: Murkus
      Spoiler
      Show
Here stands the Toy Tinker, a rich, ancient wooden building styled after the sort of boardwalk shop you might've found on Earth in the early American twentieth century. It's a crude blocky affair dominated by sweeping, simple architecture, built in two stories with a basement beneath. The front of the shop is covered by two long, shiny windows, behind which waits a plethora of playthings. Mostly metal work, plus some plastic or wood worked in. The various creatures move about with a life of their own, eyes aglow by some strange inner light. Dragons with clockwork guts waddle alongside tin soldiers run on batteries and copper wire. You can find just about any sort of toy here.

The Tinker supplies the most lifelike toys anywhere, guaranteed. Just don't ask how the proprietor makes them - unless you're looking for business of a different sort.

The flying head then looks between the two brothers, seemingly unsure what to do. "Uh, hello? I simply want a body. A body as beautiful as the one they buried. Is that really too much to ask for? I don't how mister Sharpe told you all this but it should be so simple. I can already inhabit these disgusting heads so another type of body shouldn't be so hard to fix."
Ezra pops back in and hands her a single-use hologram disc. "Oh, he's not really here. That's just an apparition... a manifestation of him." Sure enough, behind his holographic form is a background that suggests he's in a storage area of some sort.

Ezra leaves again, leaving Lihana and Archibald to discuss matters.

"It's... not that easy, Lil. I can call you Lil, right?"
A pause for her answer. "Well, Lil or Lihana, it can be done, but you'll need something tying you to that body... something that basically contains you in that body... something you must not remove. In addition to that, your feeding might be more... limited." He rubs an invisible chin. "Ezra has some knowledge of medicine, using blood to heal and all that, so he could build a body for you. One thing, we might need to access your old body, to ensure maximum compatibility."

    [A Rooftop]

The pilot holding the reigns is a bit bewildered. Why was this elf touching his bat?! At least the animal liked him. Wait, what was he saying now? He looks to Sszinyon for a translation or aid.

Sszinyon steps in, realizing the elf probably didn't want an arguement. The bat was trained well, so a few simple cues should do. "You learn quickly. Alright, it's relatively simple. Keep tension on the reigns, too keep him flying straight. Pull this way to turn laterally, like this if you wish to bank, and keep going if you want to roll. Pull back to rise, push the pommel forward gently to sink. There's a blade in there, don't push too hard, unless you really need to plummet. He'll get the idea and you don't want to injure it. There are also smaller spikes here on the saddle, dig your heels in and he'll go faster. Let up and pull back on the reigns sharply to stop him in the air. To land, get him close to the round and touch the top of his head, here. "

The drow pilot realizes that the strange elf was going to take his bat and begins to protest. Sszinyon stops it with a look as he passes to mount the other giant bat. "That white gem on the saddle, just turn it clockwise to activate the invisibility. And be sure to strap yourself in, their flight is not smooth, unless you think you can hold on well enough and want to be quick off the saddle." That last bit is said to the entire group, though Sszinyon himself doesn't strap into the saddle.

The witch Caesa watches Sszinyon's lengthy introduction with the same wide, curious eyes her flock has. Quite the notable, he seemed to be. Very much so. One to be watched, and dispatched with immense care should the need arise.

In her current state, Caesa isn't sure she could dispatch any of the other three alone. Best to remain agreeable with them, then. At least until she has some meat in her belly.

"Magic of mine is of a very old sort, little one," Caesa says, inclining her head again, this time to the small housecat. "But if you can amplify it, then I will take any help you deem me worthy to have."

As they all gather round the bats, Caesa listens to Sszinyon's last portion of advice. "Fear not for me, o demon," she smiles. "I don't fall." The statement is nothing less than an absolute fact. She's Queen and lady of the high places, after all. It would hardly become her to fall from anything.

Caesa climbs onto the bat behind Sszinyon, if he so permits and Xun does not object, and will try to wrap her arms around his waist. Her talon-like fingernails curl against his clothes. She twitches her had and clicks her tongue. The crows on the rooftops around them stand up straighter, and a few spread their wings eagerly. Their evil escort for the flight across town.

"Yes. My group is putting together a device that should be able to prevent it from overloading for a while longer. So, you know how the reactor works. How does it overload? Is it too much power not let out, or is it the reaction going out of control? That will change how we approach this."

He watches them as they converse, noting the deference of the riders and that Caesa observes in her own turn. His mouth knits into a frown at her. What a wretched old thing, and sorcerous no less, and yet the others refuse to simply leave her below. The witch's eyes disturb him somehow - and his gaze does not linger for long.

The strange elf nods his head, climbing aboard the saddle and gripping with his knees, the straps ignored. He leans forward to stroke the bat behind its ears again, before fitting his feet into the stirrups and pushing his heels against the bladed spurs to urge the steed into the air. "I am less accustomed to this, so I will take the rear until we are about to land." His hands work the reigns with ease, although there is a clumsy moment as he tries to corral the creature to hover over the rooftop and let the others go ahead. "From there, you will go ahead while I dispatch their sky vehicles. I will catch up."

And reaching down to turn the gem, he kicks the spurs again and the air becomes a roaring around his ears, the streets below a blur as they take to the skies.

Awful things, these runes and reagents. Extra pair of gloves when handling them.

But Kestrel is being paid enough to deal with this.

"Watch for anything making trouble, Fixer."

And the work begins. Runes drawn, unholy artifacts emplaced - is this an operating table or a summoning circle - knives and saws sterilized and then applied mercilessly. Wires stabbing into nervous tissue, steel and polymer linking into bones. Time slows, letting him feel each and every micrometer of the scalpel and probe, every strain on his skeleton, every minute emanation from his unholy ingredients. That can't be pleasant.

    [Eastside Townhall]

    "A literal cost? Do it."
"What about the hopeful case where the power plant is topped from detonating? Are we on any sort of hook with your warlocks?"

The mayor's voice softens; this is a pleasant surprise.

"But yes, do it. Material goods can be replaced and the loss even spun into something useful."

Once the demon is far enough away from the wreckage it just caused, it pauses, considering the encounter, with the telekinetic robot. Going through Kr's memories, there's really no other conclusion that the demon can come to as to the robot's identity.

What a disaster. Kr had 'killed' DC when he went into Vigil, looking to steal the concrete doomblock, which had led to explosions, which had led to breaking the teleport, which had led to a demon invasion. And of course, as it turns out, DC hadn't died at all, because no one actually dies in the Nexus. An entire organization destroyed, not over a matter of life or death, but because of theatrics and spite. The demon felt a distant bitterness at this revelation, but the emotion disappeared quickly - it was an emotion of the being that had existed in the demon's dream, not of the demon.

At present it notices some certain teal poncho wearing beings entering a house across the street from the demon's alleyway, and it feels the presence of some dark magic hanging heavily in the air. It moves to investigate, stepping lightly into the abandoned house.
    [Alleyway, Westside]

There are three figures inside the building, all dressed in identical teal garb. The demon might also notice the fact there is a black tower marking their clothing. None of them seem to notice it as they're busy performing a ritual involving chanting phrases that are completely mundane on their own but they're appeasing the entities connected to the mark they have drawn on the floor.
In reality nothing more than one word is required to summon these entities power, but they enjoy making mortals do things for them like telling them how great they are in their native language. They enjoy making mortals sacrifice things such as the burning pile of paper money which have been placed on the mark. If the demon can tell all this depends on it's knowledge on the occult and magic, if it does, it should be pretty clear on what these warlocks are doing.

[Malechenar Castle - Fourth Tower Compound]

"I'll see to it as soon as possible Kanya. I promise." Zhareen says with a grin and a nod. "But you probably have to come along. You need to decide what you want the illusion to look like after all."

    [Malechenar Castle - The Gardens]

"Call me whatever you like. I don't really care what you remove from me or need to have access too, anything could be better than this cursed existence. Just tell me, what would my new body be like? Since... I want to look good you know? That's not to much to ask for is it?" Lihana asks. "Really, I'm more concerned about what Ezra might ask of me in return. You're his brother aren't you? You would know, even if he says it's for free it feels like he must expect more than simple gratitude."

    [Malechenar Castle Entrance]

The guard blinks. "That sounds... big. Lot of words I don't really get. But if you want to help I'll give the lords the heads up. I'm sure they will appreciate any kind of help right now when the city might blow up at any moment." He says. "Just tell our people down there that sergeant Amare sent you and I don't think they'll protest."

What they saw of themselves, and the neighboring bat, was a white outline that renewed itself with each barely-audible click from the bats. To observers not in contact with the saddle, however, they would be invisible on both visible and infrared spectrums. He launched them into the sky and led the way towards the "sun"

It's nearly closing time when a young man pushes through the door, swatting at the river mosquitoes chasing him. He's a short fellow, with mousey round-frame spectacles on his nose and a ruffled mop of brown curls, although a great deal of cobwebs and dust have managed to tangle themselves in his hair. A bandage winds around his waist, over a bloodstain that spills down the side of his tan jacket - but he smiles, ringing the countertop bell for service as he glances around the store, at the animals both strange and familiar stirring in their cages. "Hello. I was hoping to see what you have as far as crocodiles?"

    Fallow's Furry & Feathered Friends

It is a very large store indeed, and much of it is outside- no way is a giraffe able to fit into a standard pet shop, after all. Well, except the miniature breed in the cage on the counter; they look like giraffes, scaled down to a matter of inches, but they have a wide variety of colours and patterns that are not found on the full-sized versions.

Behind the counter, on a raised platform, is a gnome. The gnome salesperson is young, quite pretty though with her race's distinctively overlarge nose, dark-skinned and black haired but with a bright green eyes. "Of course, sir. Do you have any preferences regarding size or species? We have salt water, Nile, American, slender-snouted, Orinoco, Morelet's, fresh water, Phillipine, New Guinea, mugger, Cuban, Siamese, West African and dwarf, plus miniature breeds. And there's alligators, gharials and caiman, too. But please, follow me and I'll show you what we have in stock." The gnome gets off her chair and climbs down the steps behind the counter to the platform (the entire sales staff are gnomes, and most things are at two heights to accommodate both gnome-sized and human-sized customers) before attempting to lead the short-but-still-probably-bigger-than-the-gnome man through the store to an outside area where the aquatic creatures are enclosed in suitable areas.

Sebastian follows, ducking his head under the low doorways as they move through the shop. "Nile, I think. And as small as you sell. I only have a small apartment, and unless I'm mistaken the larger ones can get, well, very large indeed. Hopefully a little fellow who could fit in a terrarium, at least for a while until I have a better place set up for him." His eyes flit through the tanks surrounding them, admiring all the strange creatures on display. Many of them he's never even heard of - and most of the ones Sebastian does know, those he's only really seen in books. It's ridiculous when you think about it. What a luxury it is to live in an age of pet stores. "I'm trying to build a shrine of sorts. For a god named Sobek."

"If you have an incubator, we have some Nile eggs. Alternately, we have some babies. Hatched two days ago, with more due next Wednesday. They should do, I think. The Sebeki have visited us before, though usually they're buying antelope, gazelle or cattle to feed the ones in their sacred pools. I much prefer their visits to the ones by Hecateans. They're only interested in puppies to strangle at a crossroads." The gnome will head towards a squat building labelled 'Incubationary'; inside, there are a variety of eggs, baby reptiles, chicks, insects, tropical lizards and some amphibians, including a pool of baby Nile crocodiles.

The doors are sized for humans, but have two handles- one at human-height, and one at gnome-height.

    HEY
    IZZAT FOOD

As soon as Sebastian kneels down at the edge of pool, the little crocodiles come squabbling and splashing forward, thrusting their tiny mouths up and croaking excitedly as he simply laughs. It's so strange to hear their tiny little voices, speaking human words. Not that they have much to say. Silly things. "Hello there." With one finger he strokes the largest of the litter, running along the soft scales of its snout and between its boggling little eyes.

    GOTTA BE FOOD
CAN I HAVE IT, HUH, CAN I
    GIMME GIMME

He lifts the hatchling up beneath its front legs, hindquarters kicking frustratedly at the thin air. It nips at his clothes as Sebastian takes it into the crook of his arm, but he only gives the little croc a tap on the nose, whispering, "Shoosh now." There's a smile on his face as he turns back to the gnome assistant, cradling his new pet gently and stroking the little fellow as he croaks and squeaks. "I'll have this one, then. And I suppose whatever you suggest for food?"

    FOOD!

"That one is [moderate amount of money]. To look after it, you need to [relevant information on feeding and cleaning]. We'll give you a leaflet, as well." The food's probably fish, frogs and invertebrates at this age. Nothing too unusual; maybe a few fingers. "We haven't determined their gender; they're too small." And it was only within the last fifteen years ago that a method of sexing baby crocodiles was developed which did not require dissection.

"Thank you, then. Ah," Sebastian struggles for a moment to shift the flopping little pup onto one arm, the wriggling thing nipping at his hair as he digs a hand down into his pockets for his wallet. "That will be all then. A few frogs, those brochures," He pauses for a moment's thought. "And I suppose a long-handle toothbrush is in order?" Yes, definitely. No need for his little murder lizard to have bad breath.

And that should be everything, and Sebastian soon on his way back home.

"What happens is that the power storage goes over capacity and the converters can't handle it all anymore, basically. In principle, MACE technology, that's Mass Acquisition and Conversion of Energy, acts like a giant sponge, soaking up all the background crap here and converting it into a usable form. That's why overloads are so dangerous. The blast from the energy explosion is laden with unconverted, concentrated energies that basically act as a form of hazardous radiation, even if that's technically a misnomer. The explosion itself doesn't need to take out the city, and with how crude turning the system into a bomb is I don't think it will, but the emissions will render the city completely uninhabitable. We usually have heavy safeguards against that, though, and that's why every such overload to date has been deliberate, like the miniature, harmless versions in scrambler detonators." Or the various overloads DC set off.

"We don't understand all of the principles behind the technology ourselves. The Executive was very secretive about the exact technical details, and the production process for power systems has always involved a lot of separation of different areas to keep anyone from piecing it all together. The Syndicate won't be able to overload it by just pouring power into it or something, the absorbers will just deactivate. They'd have to take control of the main computer and trigger it from there, and considering who made that computer, that means you've probably got some time. We've tried locking down the systems from here as well, but I don't know how much good it'll do against Chimera, especially if they've got any of those Anomalies like the Executive was there."

    [Vigil Safehouse - Ruins]

Wenomir arrives at the ruins of what used to be the Vigil safehouse in Riverside... placed there by Kr when the group was still called Watchtower. And now it appears to have been reduced to rubble. The warrior sighs and runs his hand through his ash-covered hair. Just what in the hell happened here?

He examines his surroundings. The building was destroyed. Given its current state, it was probably done from the inside. Someone planted charges or destroyed the walls before getting out. Or not. More importantly, there's a silver coin on the ground and "DEMONS" written there. Wenomir would be surprised if it wasn't demons who trashed the place, but things still don't quite add up. If they came here, why not come to the other safehouses as well? They had to know about them somehow too... and there's only one way for them to have found out. Kr. They either captured her, or corrupted her. Either way, got access to her knowledge somehow. However, it can't have been her, as she could have simply walked in without triggering the alarm.

Wenomir grits his teeth, fighting a wave of panic. Focus, you lovesick idiot. Regardless of how they found out about the place, they came here to... ransack it? Destroy it? Impossible to tell. Someone found them here, though. And fought them, by the looks of it. Who? Someone who knew about both the safehouse and their nature. But also someone who wouldn't just contact Vigil directly. That only leaves DC, out of all the possibilities. He died, but it's hardly surprising that it wouldn't stop him.

That's a lot of guesses, Wenomir thinks. No certainties, other than that things are very bad... which he knew, anyway. He shakes his head and makes his way to Inside. That safehouse seems to be safe for the time being. He better get there before it changes. He can stay there for a while.

    [Lotus Gardens - Quinn's Office]

Sophie arrives there, directed by the inhabitants of the gardens. She is, to say the least, surprised that Quinn was apparently given care of the entire place during Jezebel's absence. Is there something going on that Tobias didn't know about it didn't tell her? She knows of the Gardens, as she spends a lot of time in Riverside, but she's never had a reason, or desire, to visit them. Right now she knocks on the door to the office. She's dressed in a very no-nonsense white shirt with a collar and a pair of jeans. There's a bag on her shoulder.

When Sophie is escorted in, she'll find Quinn (perhaps contrary to some expectations) comfortably and modestly dressed with a white blouse and black (moderately short) skirt. The brunette looks up with surprise, then smiles as she sees her visitor, standing and stepping over to offer her hand warmly.

"Sophie! I wasn't expecting a visitor. How have you been?"
