    Poor Trevor.
His buddy is rather dim, isn't he?
So dim that you couldn't see the hand before your eyes with darkvision.
Assuming you find a way to get inside his head. Space shouldn't be an issue.

But he's a dab hand with a paintbrush, and enjoys a good bit of Paganini. One of these things might be important.

Maybe we are really annoying”? I'm pretty sure the maybe can be scratched.
    They are adventurers after all.

And if I read that last bit right...
Well, I already suspected something regarding the attacker and that seems to confirm it.
It seems mommy isn't as dead* as everyone thinks.
At the very least someone uses her guise.
On the other hand suspecting dead relatives is kinda paranoid, even by adventurer standards, so I guess Sarissa and Lily looking for a third party makes sense.

*Dead in the traditional sense. Dead dead. Not walking around wiping out entire families dead.

Minor correction: Invisibility is pure illusion, no connection to the ethereal plane. I've always wondered why See Invisibility sees ethereal but I imagine it's just for convenience, two tiers of See X is already enough to keep track of. Related, it's funny when some things talk like there's a way to directly/concurrently view the shadow plane version of things (there's not without going there or scrying, no contradiction to the comic though), or that there's corresponding points on the astral plane for particular locations (none of those either unless there's a color portal exit). At least as far as I know anyway.

Obviously the city is a pic you've pulled into the comic, but seeing the set up my first thought was the Illumian city. Which is pretty cool, aside from the fact that it's built on a conspicuous shadow-plane location with no mention of what the material version looks like. Presumably it's supposed to be "deeper" in where the direct parallels stop, but again no mention.

Back at the top of the page, no idea what the penny drop reference was to. Not sure if it'd be funnier if I knew or not.

    You are correct.

Conrad is aware that "See Invisible" requires the Ethereal Plane. He therefore presumes that "Invisibility" requires the Ethereal Plane. Because Conrad is a sensible person who imagines the universe to operate on sensible rules.

There's a reason I kept him absent from the "activating the doodad" strip.

As for "penny dropped", just imagine that "Penny" is the name of a character who died in the third season of whatever show she was in.

The joke could be a reference to a specific show, or deliberately avoiding any known shows, which could still result in referencing a show one didn't know about. I don't know of a show with a Penny who dies in season three, but Marlow might. Thus I passively give an opening to explain the joke, while also acknowledging the joke might be that there's nothing to explain. I'm thinking the latter now.

Unless something else is intended, Penny is a side character in the show RWBY.

I am fully aware of this, and I've seen Pyrrha's Magic Trick. "Watch her turn a Penny into quarters!"

FIRST SPEAKER IS USING "Penny to drop" in the sense of "why don't these two get it? SECOND SPEAKER is taking it as a reference to a show. First speaker apparently is sufficiently used to these misunderstanding that they don't bother to try correcting the second. I'm not a big one for punch lines.
