Yeah... Corey should have rethought that plan.

On the plus side, if the Rancor is actually ten of guys in a suit, I'll bust a gut.

Yeah, that plan was terrible... I've seen better plan in my gaming group. And that's saying a lot

Eh... maybe? But seems unlikely. Just from a "reaslistic ability to control the body" point of view. Maybe a robot? We'll see.

Then again, the Rancor does move really mechanically in Return of the Jedi - one of the relatively few instances where the film shows its age (came out over 30 years ago), in my opinion.

I like Luke's answer on the question about his lightsaber. I think in his situation I wouldn't want to use one either. I wonder how they explain the fight over the Sarlaac-pit.

The rancor can talk? That is... not that surprising now that I think about it. Most of the other guys are just wearing costumes after all.

That reaction shot at the end was just right.

You know, thinking about future strips, I'm wondering if they'll make a joke about Luke's force kick...

Clever Corey, really clever. I doubt that was on purpose but it was still a clever way to get out of the rancor's grip. When was the last time they used those rules? I think that was during Petes turn as a DM in Episode 2.

I haven't run D&D in a while, although let's be fair here: here's a hard counter for everything in D&D if you have the right spell.

More like "why no Rancors in Star Wars" or "why do all my Vampires know Claws of the Wild or carry guns in Hunter".

Did Luke (Corey) make a Joker reference there? And does it mean that the characters end up evil again?

Am I the only one who thinks that this is one of the saddest scenes of Return of the Jedi?

Anyway, that should be one less problem for our heroes. Time to celebrate.

It was just a monster for me when I watched it at first. But after I read some of the EU books - I think it was the Courtship of Princess Leia, but I'm not sure - where the cast went to the Rancor planet and Rancors were established as intelligent herd creatures, the scene did become a lot sadder in retrospect.

Though I did feel really sad for the rancor tamer even before I read said book - poor guy is obviously distraught that his pet was killed.

I think the rancor tamer - Malakili according to his story in "Tales from Jabba's Palace" - is part of why I think this is a sad scene.
Combined with the sound the rancor makes it makes me think of a large dog or another pet. But the main reason is that I always thought that the fight was so unnecessary, that in another situation both Luke and the rancor could have survived. It certainly made Jabba look more evil.

Since I already mentioned Tales from Jabba's Palace: The rancor tamer's story makes it even worse. Malakili already had a plan to escape with his pet-monster - had Luke arrived only one day later they would have been gone.

Does the EU establish whether he got out of dodge after the rancor died? Because seriously, if anyone deserves the term "disgruntled employee" it's him.

Yes, according to Tales from Jabba's Palace he and Jabba's Chef - who has his own story in said book open a Restaurant in Mos Eisley. With money from Jabba's Treasury.

    Aunt Edith says: New comic.

Luke just killed the slicing technican? I agree with Bubu that fight was a bad idea. Jabba should at least have waited until after the slicing of Han to start it.

What are Wedge and Lando muttering there? I think it might be about the Sarlaac.

Calling it now: They're going to slip Luke's lightsaber to R2. Wedge smuggled it in inside his suit, He slips it to C3PO, who "crashes" into R2 aboard the sail barge. Lando is there aboard the skiff to serve as Han's meatshield.

    New comic.

Jim is amazing. Trying to prove Han isn't a shapeshifter by not shapeshifting. That almost makes sense. Almost. And Wedge tries to help. I doubt it will help. Jabba wants money, Boba wants a new shapeshifting organ and anyone can claim to be not a shapeshifter by not shapeshifting. Three good reasons not to believe him.

I won't bet on anything regarding this comic.
The Sarlacc being another slicing technican makes as much sense as the rancor being one. So why not? At least the Sarlacc is sapient according to the old EU.

Another possibility is that it is part of Wedge and Lando’s secret escape plan they were code-whispering about.

If the trip into the dune sea where our heroes will be thrown in the Pit of Carkoon, in the maw of the Sarlacc, where they will suffer horrible pain as they are slowly digested over a thousand years is a part of Wedge and Landos plan it would explain why Han attacks Lando - after all the heroes wouldn't know about this plan since it seems to be Wedges idea.

Who knows, maybe Wedge wants to kill Luke for trying to get rid of him.
