Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
Scheduling note: I'll be absent the weekend of the 14th. So that Friday evening to Sunday, maaaaaybe Monday at the latest. Taking a trip out to the woods by a lake far from civilization, and I seriously doubt my iPhone will survive past day 1 on it's accursed internal battery I can't procure spares for. And even if it did, the man of honor will be on a massive 'getting away from it all' tack. So feel free to lynch me then, but don't take it as suspicious when I vanish off the face of Middle Earth briefly.

Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
Mm, tomorrow, probably. That having been said I'll be out of town for just over a week starting Saturday, so I'm not completely sure. I'd like to at least get it started somewhat before I leave, so it doesn't drag on forever, but I may end up just starting it when I return. Not completely sure. Either case, if the 3-5 days is pretty soon, you should be fine and I'll make sure you aren't autolynched.

Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
You can use this to start the game
"The power of the enemy is growing. Sauron will use his puppet Saruman to destroy the people of Rohan. Isengard has been unleashed. The Eye of Sauron now turns to Gondor, the last free kingdom of men. His war on this country will come swiftly. He senses the Ring is close. The strength of the Ringbearer is failing. "

Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
Personally, I think the orcs are the victims, at least in the movies.
Think about it: The first time (chronologically) we see the orcs in Fellowship of the Ring, all they're doing is defending their home from the "Last Alliance of Men and Elves." The next time the orcs do something, they assassinate Isildur, the guy who killed their king. Next, in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, we see them defending their home in Moria against an attack of Dwarves, who had abandoned the mines years ago because of the Balrog they'd woken up, as we learn "later" in Fellowship. The dwarf king is killed by Azog, then Thorin cuts Azog's arm off and the dwarves... win? Balin called it a victory, but they didn't take the mines, they just kept moving. The orcs fell back, but they fell back into the area that the dwarves were trying to claim. I guess it was a tie.
The events of An Unexpected Journey follow; Azog and his Warg pack are only ever guilty of chasing after several of the warriors who had attacked his homeland in the battle in which he lost his arm. At one point the elves attack the warg pack and ruthlessly slaughter every orc in the field because the orc pack had come, according to Elrond; "near our borders." The keyword there is near. As far as we know, those orcs owned the land they were warging on, and the elves just randomly decided to go kill them. All we know for sure is that elves went off of elven lands specifically to kill orcs for the crime of being born orcs. At another point, the dwarves trespass on goblin lands, are taken prisoner and not killed. At least, not until one of their weapons was identified as a known murder weapon that had killed several goblins who very well may have been the family of many of the goblins there assembled.
In Desolation of Smaug, the orcs do exactly two things: Defend themselves against Gandalf trespassing in their fort and dispelling all of their defenses (mind you, they don't kill him and they have no reason not to, so the only possible explanation is that orcs were capable of mercy), and continue to go after the dwarves that attacked them at Moria. At one point they're on a river and a whole bunch of elves try to kill them. That could have been on elven lands, but only military elves were there. It seems like a river would have fishermen or farmers. One of them is captured, promised amnesty, and then killed. Later, a small group of them go into Laketown, intentionally keeping a low profile and not killing any civilians, when Legolas attacks them off of elven lands for the crime of being orcs. As far as he knew, they had been hired as mercenaries by the Master, since Laketown didn't seem to have any military. They weren't, but Legolas didn't know that. All he knew was that they were orcs, he had no right to kill them since he was on foreign soil, and how to kill them. Then he killed them. Sure, the orcs were guilty of trespassing as well, with intent of killing some of the Master's guests: Known terrorists who intended to wake up a dragon. I can't blame them.
In Battle of the Five Armies, the Other Last Alliance of Men and Elves are about to attack a group of dwarven terrorists for vandalism, theft, and waking up a dragon. Then orcs show up and the Men and Elves decide that their offense of being orcs and going after the dwarves who had committed crimes against everyone by that point is worse than anything the dwarves have done and decide to kill all of the orcs. In the course of the battle, a second army goes through Dale, which is, granted, filled with innocents and noncombatants. However, Dale has been abandoned for centuries and had only been repopulated the day before the battle started. The orcs had no way of knowing that there were noncombatants in the city, especially when the first thing that happened after they went into the city was being attacked by the human militia. Then the eagles, who had no stake in the battle whatsoever, decided to show up and kill some orcs for the crime of being orcs.
In Fellowship of the Ring, we learn that goblins have reclaimed the mines of Moria from Balin, who apparently retook the mines in between movies by killing a whole bunch of orcs whose only crime was moving into abandoned mine two generations ago. The Fellowship trespasses in goblin lands, unwittingly, to be fair, and the goblins attack them after they make a whole bunch of noise and shoot them as they try to open the doors. For all we know, before Legolas and Aragorn shot first they only intended to capture the Fellowhip, not kill. Looking back at the Hobbit trilogy, capturing is more their style. The Fellowship murders their way out. The Uruk-Hai later attack the Fellowship, who are known to be carrying a magical artifact stolen from the orcs' leader. Their orders are to take the halflings to Isengard "alive and unspoiled."
In The Two Towers, the Rohirrim kill all of the Uruk-Hai and orcs they see. We know that they're not on Rohan's land, because they were exiled from Rohan's land. So they just went out and decided to kill a whole bunch of orcs who were minding their own business on neutral (or even orc) territory. They left none alive and burned the bodies because they're jerks. Later, we learn that the orcs have made an alliance with other humans, who turned against Rohan because the Rohirrim took the land from them. Granted, this was probably generations ago, as they've had time to build Helm's Deep and earn a reputation of being cavalry people throughout Middle Earth. But we are not made aware of any attempt for Rohan to compensate the downtrodden natives for the capture. After Rohan massacred a bunch of orcs and Uruk-Hai for no reason at all, the army of Uruks attacked Helm's Deep with a Warg Pack harassing their supply and military lines. After they lose to the Other Other Last Alliance of Men and Elves, they attempt to retreat into a forest, which kills them all (other members of the forest had taken their home city of Isengard) for the crime of cutting down too many trees. In most states, this warrants a small fine and occasionally the revoking of your business license.
In Return of the King, the orcs attack Gondor, which, according to Borromir, has been in open war with the orcs for generations. They start to win and Rohan attacks along with a ghost army to even the odds. Later they defend their home against another invasion before two hobbits assassinate their leader and somehow blow up their entire homeland.
And that is the extent of what the orcs do in all of the Peter Jackson films. I understand that in the books Morgoth literally injected evil into them.

Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
Morgoth only ever wanted to rock out.
Anyway, I think Indarra is clearly evil (read: not on our side in this) and should be murdered for the crime of not hating orcs.

Re: Middle Earth WW: The Two Towers
Um, that's not quite right Indarra. We see the Uruk-Hai never worked for Sauron, they work for Saruman, so the idea of them reclaiming the ring doesn't work. And we also see the Urak-Hai wiping out villages in Rohan as well. As for a fine for cutting trees, that doesn't quite work out when you are almost a tree yourself and some of your friends and family are trees. So, well, I'll half give you on the normal orcs, but there is no excuse for the Uruk-Hai.
