Was not expecting Steven in a dress.
I liked this episode a lot! The mail-lady fits very neatly in the slot of 'Sadie's Mom' we were vaguely aware of. I don't know if there's a word for her style of parenting, but it seems like there should be. I also like theme of the episode as a whole. It's an unpleasantly familiar kind of situation, and I feel like the frank talk that came out of it is really gonna help her relationship with her mom in general. I also like that Steven took responsibility for his mistake in the end.

Also, I totally understand how the creation process can take a really long time, but UGH, I just want it all NOW! I don't wanna wait a whole week for more!

I believe the term for this parenting style is "hyper-supportive", parents who become so blinded by wanting their children to be great that they ignore what the child actually wants. You see similar examples in real life in controversial roles like those dads that sign their sons up for baseball or moms that put their little girls in beauty pageants. It's a tough thing to confront as a kid because you know that they're likely doing it out of a misplaced sense of love, not malice, so telling them that they're giving you too much of a good thing can easily sound ungrateful unless navigated carefully.

Oh my god Steven singing is the best thing I've seen all year. Suddenly him dancing with Lion doesn't seem so farfetched anymore.

Sadie's relationship with her mom is rather interesting, and it shows something I've never seen before. Maybe that's just because I don't watch a lot of TV, but still.

If mother/child relationships are the theme of this Stevenbomb, then I wonder what that means for Steven. Seeing his relationship with Rose explored would be interesting.

I really liked this one, and it was definitely a step up from the last for me. It'd be nice to see Sadie outside the context of a second "bigger" character, but for now it's good to at least give her a new context to operate in. The song was great, especially at the ending, and it seems worth note that, beyond the surface interest of Steven in a dress, that costume seemed perfectly suited to his character in the same way it wasn't to Sadie.

Welp, watching Cartoon Network while I wait for the new SU to come on, and I find myself watching this show 'Wabbit'. While I admit, I was initially somewhat wary (a lot of looney tunes reboots have been pretty spectacularly awful), this one actually is relatively entertaining, and seems to get the general idea of what you actually want in a Bugs Bunny show.

The gang finally caught Peridot. Action economy really matters. Peridot uses robotic limbs for combat, without them, she's even smaller then Steven. An okay episode... but I thought the Crystal Gems already dealt with the Cluster...

OH MY GOD!

She's so tiny I can't take it

I am going to miss her finger thingies, but she's just too adorable for me to be too upset.

And yeah, we really misinterpreted that cluster comment. We thought it was just the hand thing, but it seems like those were just experiments. The Cluster is... something else...

I'm not sure what it is yet, but I'm aiming at giant amalgamation of gem fragments, possibly as some sort of weapon of mass destruction.

I'm a little worried by Peridot's "we'll all be shattered." It could just mean it'll just kill them all, but there's some nagging thought it might have some way to just incorporate more gems as a part of itself. (Which is absolutely terrifying. Especially given that the Crystal Gems have a huge supply of them in their basement.

Another thing I noticed. After Peridot saw the bubbled gems in the basement, she thought they were going to "harvest" her. Obviously they weren't but it sounds like that could be something Homeworld does or did. After all we know gems can be used to power objects like Lapis's mirror, what if Homeworld just uses some of its citizens as power sources, heck as far as we know there could be an entire class of gems used only as power sources, that's a terrifying thought.

This episode summary was VERY MISLEADING.

All the theories about robo-limbs are true! I think somebody actually predicted what was actually small based on her proportions, even. Though, she's not actually missing the aforementioned limbs, which breaks from some of the theories.

Mini-peri is SO CUTE.

I honestly was not expecting her to become a friendly character, though I could have seen perhaps some sort of amiable enemy, sort of a 'team rocket' kinda baddie. You know, the kind that's not all bad, and is not really very effective at being bad, and occasionally teams up with the good guys against particularly impressive threats.
Still, it wasn't actually all that jarring of a transition. We get to see less of her normal bravado, and more of the underlying fear. She's utterly alone. All her allies are gone. Homeworld isn't coming to help. The only other beings she interacts with are traitors who are actively hunting her, possibly intending to kill her. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, and to put the cherry on top she's 'injured', too. She's at the end of her rope, and when she's finally cornered with no options left, Steven offers her a hand in his typical steveny way.

I REALLY want to see her reaction to the answer to her last question.

Now, this 'cluster'. That's gonna be a thing. Probably the big finale of the season. I'm assuming it's related to the fusion experiments, but that's not guaranteed. If it is a fusion experiment, it's going to have to be a HUGE upgrade from the others. She's not talking about something that just fights enemy gems, or kills the natives on the planet. She's talking about something that KILLS the planet entirely. 'It's not gonna be like anything anymore' implies planetary-scale devastation. Now, it could be a weapon like a bomb, but I think that's unlikely. Maybe whatever it is, it sucks the earth dry of energy like the kindergarden, but on a larger scale.
My first thought is a kind of cronenbergian kaiju. A horrible monster made of thousand of mismatched body parts. And the only way to stop it is to either awaken the temple to fight like a giant mech, or fuse into the giant woman that was alluded to in historical friction.

Every episode, by some sort of strange magic, they somehow manage to make Peridot more and more adorable. This episode points to something I indicated awhile back, that Steven's empathy based methodology will even prove effective against people as far on the antagonistic side of the spectrum as Peridot. I thought this was a good episode, in any case, even if it felt a bit unfinished. This raises some interesting questions about exactly how serialized this show is going to be, because this is perhaps an even more open end than in the last Steven bomb.

Let me put some things into perspective here:



(Ignore the fact that Pearl is supposed to be taller)
The length from Pearl's hip to her knee is a bit shorter than from knee to ankle, and likewise with her shoulder-to-elbow and elbow-to-wrist lengths. But Peridot's shoulder-to-elbow length is less than half of her elbow-to-wrist length, and her lower leg is twice the length of her upper leg. The "prosthetics" could easily be parts with seams that just sort of detach and fall away.

With Peridot living in the bathroom, the Gems are going to need to keep someone to guard the door. She's not much of a threat, but they'll still need someone around to make sure she doesn't sneak off. Especially given that there's a warp pad about 20 feet away from the bathroom.

Obviously this is going to be something of a logistical problem. Steven can probably handle her most of the time, particularly when the gems need to go on missions, but what about during the night when Steven's asleep.

Well obviously one of the gems will have to watch her, and if that means Pearl some gem happens to get to watch Steven sleep as well, well that's just a bonus.
