"Detail?" Fade asks back with his soundless voice. "what details can your tools identify?"

"A tool could simply tell you whether an item is magical. But it could also inform you what sort of enchantment it has. The most precise tools can give you a lot of accurate information about an item," Dorota explains.

Dana's Place

"Yeah, it's great to see you too." Aiden runs hus hand through his hair. It's one of those habits he's always had when he had a hard time thinking of something to say. "I should get a bike or something. The Riftline car I took here had a centaur on like four of the seats."

[Dana's Place]

"I couldn't imagine getting around without the Riftline, honestly. I guess you don't need to carry groceries home for three people. That'd help." Dana chuckles. "So, were you planning on getting any ice cream while you're here? I'd have to give your place in line to the next person who comes along if you're just going to chat."

Melina wanders back out of the Bizarre Bazaare once more with a shrug

"What would be the cost of this last tool you mentioned?" Fade asks. Sure money isn't really a problem for him, since he didn't really use much of the MERC job money and the money he got befor MERC.

A book has appeared here. It's large, very thick, and bound in black leather. It doesn't appear to have a title on the spine or front cover, or indeed any way of determining which cover is the front and which the back. It's just lying here, waiting for somebody to come and find it.

Phone books are really getting kind of weird these days, aren't they?
But that's gotta be what this book is; what else is lying around a phone booth, right? That's what the dragon-guy opening up the book is thinking. Or perhaps he's just distracted, flipping through the book for the number he needs as he starts to feed quarters into the machine.

"Does this tool requiere the owner to be able to use magic?"

"It doesn't. Anyone can use it," Dorota says. "We design them for people who can't use magic, since they're most likely to want them."

Well, there's one big warning sign that this isn't a phone book just inside the front cover- the title. (Roll: 11) The Adventurer's Field Guide. The book also resists casual flipping through the pages, providing large images and interesting titles to coax Mr. Dragon-Guy into reading the book in full. If he takes the book's bait, the book will speed up his reading process; despite its width, it'll take about quarter of an hour to read the tome in full, and I roll a D4 to determine what effect the book may have upon its reader. If it looks as though the diagrams and titles aren't enough to capture his attention, the book shall use a subtle compulsion to try and force him to read it, where both effects mentioned previously will take hold.

He leans against the corner of the booth to read. Not often someone just leaves a book behind, and there's such a variety in this world.
Cover to cover, eventually. Seems like he must have been reading for far too long.

The Dragon-Guy gains the ability of (roll: 1) being able to identify and interpret magical auras! No mystic bauble will go unidentified with this guy around!

Speaking of, closing the book's final cover sparks a magical transmutation in the book, converting the pages, cover and ink into a pile of dead oak leaves. Before the process is complete, he'll see that the book he just read was heavily enthused with powerful, ever-changing chaos magic that flickered through every type and school of magic.

But will it give him the ability to remember phone numbers that he should have written down?

He watches the book collapse to leaves in his hands, seeing the magic swirling around it and fading away.
Maybe he'll just fly home, and make the call later.

Alas, no. That is not an ability the book is capable of granting.

Fade nods and then places a bag of coins in front of Dorota.
"Give me one of those expensive tools and one of th basic tools." he says.

[Morty]

Dorota disappears behind the door to the back area and returns with two items. One is a simple circular glass. The other appears to be a wand attached to a mirror.

"The glass will simply tell you whether an item is magical when you look through it. The wand, you need to point at an object, and information will appear in the mirror. But it runs out of power, so you need to wait before using it again."

Fade nods. He then grabs the items. He puts the glass under his layers of rags and even thought there doesn't seem to be any pocket, it doesn't fall out. The other item remains in his hand, to big to hide under his clothes.

"Thank you." he says with his soundless voice and turns for a leave.

"Yeah, I just get the frozen meals for the week and I'm good to go!" Aiden grins at his own dumb joke. "Well, I mean, I guess I could go for some cherry ice cream." He's putting up a poor act of nonchalance, Dana might still know that cherry is Aiden's favorite flavor for a lot of things - ice cream included.

"Yeah, I figured. Lemme grab that." Sure they weren't together for a super long time or anything, but if she never knew his favourite ice cream flavour, there would have seriously been something wrong. Dana scoops him some of the usual ice cream he'd get in a cone and hand it to him. "There you go. One cherry ice cream cone just like you like it."

"Thanks. You don't wanna know how long it's been since I had any ice cream," Aiden says, taking the cone. "Or anything sweet at all, really. Mostly been sticking to eggs and those frozen meals I mentioned."

"That sounds like a travesty to me." Dana chuckles. she falls silent for a moment and shuffles her feet. "I should probably get back to work, though. You know how it is. There's always something that needs doing." She says apologetically.

"Yeah, there is. You can have all the employees in the world and it still wouldn't be enough, right?" Aiden looks tired again as he says that. "It's cool. I can't exactly stay long anyway."

"Okay, well it's been nice seeing you, Aiden. Don't be afraid to stop by in the future. See you." Dana gives him a parting smile before she heads back to the employees only area to get back to work.

An older woman walks through the mall, searching for a particular store. She's dressed conservatively in a long dress of deep blue, with an embroidered shawl wrapped around her shoulders to keep off what was left of winter's chill. Her blonde hair was tied back and tucked under her hat. She may have once been slim, but bearing children and a hard working life had left her on the portly side, her back bent. Her green eyes scan the shop windows, searching for the one she had been told about.

The store the woman has been directed to is there. Apparently, an alchemist by the name of Dorota Sergéon works there, and might be able to provide what she's looking for.
