Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
I feel kind of sorry for the robot fights evil mastermind lady. She's got Faye and Bubbles for employees, lousy security, fighters who don't understand the acronym OPSEC, and now Momo to contend with. Taking over the world would probably be less stressful.
I wonder if Momo went there to talk to Bubbles, or investigate this criminal activity, or try to persuade all these people they shouldn't be pandering to the public's base desires, or all of the above. Hopefully she won't wind up becoming entranced by the fights.

Heh, that would be amusing. I dunno if Momo would be up for it though based on last thursday's comic.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
OK, I can kind of see the Sakaki. Both are tall, physically formidable, seem tough but appear to be marshmallows inside... Any cat that bit Bubbles' hand would probably break off its teeth, though. And if Bubbles had the weakness for things cute that Sakaki had, Momo would be HER queen. Especially with a face like that...

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
True friendship is making mock death threats against those you care for.
Well, now we know more about how Bubbles got into the military. I'm getting really uneasy about how she got out, given her discouragement and mental problems.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
Well, she basically told Hanners at the party that all or most of her old unit are dead. More detail than that would probably just be superfluous.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
These robot fights are starting to sound like the WWE. I'm surprised we haven't seen Vince McMahon out there stirring things up.
So Hank is in disguise. This has possibilities. Not Pintsize. Not Momo. Definitely not May, she can't lie well enough to avoid detection. Winslow?
That somewhat depends on how they died... SOMETHING has really messed Bubbles' up.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
When someone has seen all or most of their friends die, I don't think that the exact details are terribly important.
Which said, the implication is that they were human; given that would make them squishier than Bubbles, it's entirely possible that she took the same sort of attacks, in the same quantities, that they did, but she survived easily but they didn't. That's be a recipe for a large does of survivor's guilt.Spinnin' that Disc...

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
Not to get political, but my confusion about the events centers on how what happened made her change her opinion.
While I guess it's entirely possible for a veteran in hindsight to regret their actions (for various reasons) I feel
Bubbles problems might have to do with her (being a robot) being responsible for the fate of her comrades.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
It may also be the difference between "knowing" the potential consequences, and actually experiencing them. Just because theoretically you know going into the infantry that you will see combat and death, doesnt mean you really understand that till you get there and experience it. Remember how the AIs treat these cage matches? Its all fun and games because their brains are well protected and their bodies can be fixed or replaced easily. Can they really understand just how squishy and frail humans are in comparison? Bubbles went into a platoon, probably made friends with them, trained with them, fought with them. Then something bad happened and they died while at worst she got repaired. That had to cause some ptsd issues for her.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
Okay, but wouldn't you then want only AIs to go to war? To protect squishy humans? Bubbles sounds like she's against AIs being soldiers now, or at least that's the way I take it which amounts to "let the people who want to risk their life do that, it's none of our beeswax".

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
Yeah, it's not uncommon for soldiers to come back from a conflict and think "why were we even there?" If I remember correctly, Tim O'Brien's books about his experiences in Vietnam illustrate this really well.

Re: Questionable Content 9: To kill a Yelling Bird
Maybe it was something like that:
Their squad goes up against an enemy encampment or something, and they see "Oh ****, they got a combat robot with them, break out the big guns, we're gonna need them!". Then the enemy showered them in artillery fire, grenades or tactical nukes or whatever, and her human buddies had no chance at all, while she made it out due to the highly resistant AI Cores etc.
And she blames herself, because "Without me there, they would never have used the heavy weaponry, and my friends would have made it out alive. I thought I was helping them, but in reality I have made it worse for them."

I assumed it was just typical survivor's guilt syndrome.
