Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
Combat Round #1
As the blasphemously animated corpses variously stagger or scamper towards the party, Geoffe steps forward shouting out information about the undead as he gathers his arcane focus. Suddenly, his tattoos burst into light and a hot wind seems to suck the copious moisture out of the air. Pointing his palms towards the skeletons scrambling towards the party he speaks the mystic words of release and white-hot flames explode from his hands in an arc of fiery death, charring three of the boney undead to crackling cinders.
His suspicious nature completely unsurprised by the clumsy ambush of the walking dead, Shaun calls forth Brosi, once the boon companion of a long forgotten hero and now a celestial hound. His tail wagging in delight at the pile of walking treats that Shaun has summoned him to devour, Brosi lays into the skeleton, quickly tearing it down to its component parts.
With the threat of the skeletons so thoroughly ended by the brothers Turnisson, Denjan engages zombies, separating one from its head with an aggressive stooping falcon strike. Unfortunately this leaves the monk open to a rush from one of the other zombies. The shambling mound of decay wraps its arms around Dejan before he can recover his stance and sinks its teeth deep into the heavy muscles of his shoulder.
Seeing the technique used against the monk, Jade dances back from the zombie attacking her, her sabre flicking like a viper at the joints of the creature, slowly but surely destroying the remaining ligaments and tendons holding the creature together but unable to entirely stop it.
Seeing the monk in trouble, Hoppholderim charges forward, sweeping the legs out from under the zombie with his axe, then pinning it to the ground with his shield and finishing it with a curt over handed chop to its skull.
The lone remaining zombie facing Jade continues its mindless attack, unfazed by the loss of the rest of its comrades.Last edited by Truwar; 2015-09-30 at 12:04 PM.

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
Combat Round #2
As Geoffe pulls his dagger and prepares to defend himself, Shaun directs Brosi to attack the zombie that Jade is picking apart. Yipping in delight Brosi leaps onto the back of the zombie, digs his teeth into its fetid neck and with a mighty rip, tears out the unholy creature's spine, sending it crashing to the ground. With this latest victory Brosi is near to bursting with pride, prancing about and doing the occasional back flip of triumph.
All of the undead lay fallen amongst the ruins of what must have once been a study of some sort.

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
Geoffe shrugs. "Unusual creatures, often born of human mothers who have been influenced by powerful blood-sucking undead, dhampir can often pass for humans but do not heal in the same way we do. Positive energy burns them and negative energy heals them, much like undead," he responds. "They are not particularly common, but happen with enough frequency that I have heard of them in my studies."

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
The ring Denjan is examining is forged of mithral and where a stone should be is a tiny bluish sphere of force. The amulet appears to be a turtle woven of twigs but as hard as steel.
After a close examination for traps, Jades expertly opens the lock on the book with an almost negligent flick of her thieves’ tools. The pages inside of the slender volume are mostly so soaked in blood that they are illegible but close examination reveals a few things about the writer.
1. He was a necromancer who originally took refuge in the cave to hatch a scheme to “pay back” all of those who doubted him and had called him mad.
2. He began ambushing, killing and reanimating gillman pilgrims in order to build “an army to shake the very foundations of Absalom”.
3. He apparently did not have a very lucid grasp on what “an army to shake the very foundations of Absalom” would need to consist of, as he began losing control of the small amount of undead he already had.
4. He writes about his mother a lot and some of it is a touch disturbing.
5. I contains, alas, no spells.SpoilerThanks to Sneak for the slick Bugbear avatar!

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
Shaun nods, frowning. "How gruesome. Still, I suppose there's a logic to his schemes. I, for one, can relate to the idea of empowering others to do your dirty work for you. Not too dissimilar from summoning, except for the whole undeath and brutally violent massacres part.... I guess that's significant." As the man seems to have his internal monologue externally, it's hard to not notice that his perspective on humanity is somewhat unusual.
"Well, we can tell that old deaf man the good news- his friends won't be getting ambushed... and.. turned into zombies... anymore. Maybe we should leave that last part out?"

Geoffe looks disappointed but nods at the reading of the journal. "May I see the ring and amulet for a moment? They may be enchanted - such a discovery would be encouraging since the journal lacks any spells I could learn..." he says as he begins casting a quick spell.

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
"Both of these pieces of jewelry aid in the defense of an individual, this ring by deflecting attacks against the wearer and this amulet by hardening their skin so that blows are more likely to glance off," Geoffe explains after inspecting the items. "Perhaps one of our scouts would appreciate such magic?"
After passing the ring and amulet to anyone showing interest, Geoffe stands and looks around the chamber with disappointment on his face. "Are we sure there is no spellbook around? It doesn't make any sense for a wizard to travel without some notes on his techniques..." He then begins searching everything more thoroughly, taking a great deal of time checking every fallen corpse
Spoiler: PerceptionTaking 20 for a 21 as Geoffe searches for a spellbook or any other kind of mechanically-similar item.
After his search is complete Geoffe turns and begins walking towards the room with the gillman oracle.

"Protection sounds good, I'd be happy to use one of them." Jade smiles, then watches as Geoffe searches for a spellbook. After a short while, she helps him search, and when they find nothing, nods as he heads back towards the cave with the gillman. "I hope our trusty halfling guide is alright..."

Re: Agents of the Decemvirate (IC)
As the party moves back down the tunnel towards massive pool-cavern the catch sight of Uori, watching for their return with a mix of hope and fear on his face. The hope drains away as he sees the would-be-pathfinders have returned alone. He sighs heavily staring in the ground and lost in troubled thought. “They had been missing for quite some time but I suppose I still clung to hope, as one sometimes does in hopeless situations…” He looks up at the party after a moment. “I am at least glad I did not send you to the same fate as my brethren. Can you tell me what has been happening here?”

Jade steps forward, looking at the gillman with empathy. "I'm sorry, Uori. We found your kin, but they are no longer with us, just as you feared. A dark wizard killed them, but the wizard is dead, and we found your kin's remains. It should be safe to enter the cave now, to retrieve them for burial, if you wish. We can help."
