Mat thinks of all the various ways he could make this seemingly impossible task easier. Thinking quickly, he pulls out his own quill and ink. Glowing briefly with amber energy, he casts Mage Hand. A hand made of amber energy comes into existence and grabs the second quill. Concentration, he goes about having the hand copy text from the end of the essay, while he copies from the beginning.

Mathwin quickly grabs and extra quill from his bag, and summons a invisible hand to help him out with his work. His mind racing, he begins to write the words he sees, while instructing his other hand to do the same. Requiring most of his mental capacity to keep the handwriting clear and legible, yet be quick, he is surprised when he finishes writing about how early wizards used all sorts of alchemical materials as material components for their spells, figuring out which aided to certain spells, and how many died experimenting. Turns out that using copper dust instead of gold in a Arcane Lock spell can cause the users hand to meld together. Mathwin makes a mental note about this.

Mathwin is impressed with himself when he finishes, and has enough time to look over his paper before the time runs out. One of the other wizards is complete, while the other 2 are still writing furiously. The coordinator startles everyone, when he states the that the time had ended, and quickly gathers the papers. He states each one of you will follow him when asked. He states the first name, “Mathwin.” As he leads you out of the room, down a small corridor.

You are guided to a office, and asked to enter by an elderly man. As you sit, he welcomes you, saying “I am Farlothe, master of texts at this school. Now let’s look over your scroll.” He begins to read in silence, while looking for errors in your text.

Mat smiles but tries to not be too cocky.

"I'm a graduate of the Varisian Academy with honors in dueling and evocation. I am a highly driven mage with a powerful thirst for knowledge. I have been trained in all of the knowledge bases, but have extended training in Arcane, Noble, and Historic knowledge. If your test was any indicator, I already have a very good working knowledge of alchemical power components. Additionally, I am fluent in both Ancient Azlanti and Ancient Thassilonian."

The wizard spends a few more minutes looking over you scroll in silence. After he is done, he looks at you, saying "You did a damn fine job here Mathwin, let me look over the other wizards scrolls, and I'll be with you shortly." He shakes your hand as you leave, and the coordinator guides you to a second waiting room.

The room is full of books, old pictures and a unlighted fireplace. The coordinator tells you that you will be contacted shortly and to if you will be given the contract, and leaves you in the room.

Looking through the books on the shelf, Mathwin see’s a vary of magical texts, ranging from basic spell lore, to necromancy texts. All fairly straight forward books, nothing rare or even obscure here. And of course Gregor’s Tome is nowhere to be found.

The attendant comes back and reassures you that the wait will just be a little longer.

Mathwin's eyes flash brightly, and he is able to see some of the magical texts on the shelf. Obviously the scrolls are magical, most of them having faint evocation, transmutation or conjuration magic’s. Some of the texts have magical properties, but looking at the texts, all of the books he finds are fairly common.

After a few more minutes, the attendant asks you to follow him. He escorts you back into the room with Farlothe, who is looking over multiple documents. "Oh, come in Mathwin." He offers you a seat. "I was very impressed by your writing. My assistant says you were able to write the paper and use a Mage Hand spell to copy the other side of the document at the same time, is that right?"

Looking around the office, Mat has trouble focusing on one magical item in the room, because there are so many! From the quill on his desk, to the candle on his wall, even the rings on his fingers, this Wizard is decked out in the coolest gadgets. Mat can't tell exactly what all the items do of course, but his concentration on the items is broken when Farlothe sets the papers down to speak again. He strokes his long beard while he speaks to you.

"Correct, we did not. And good on you for getting the job done! For a wizard to have the concentration to do both, that man has great potential. I would like to formally offer you this contract! But first, let me tell you a little more before you accept. We have recently uncovered some texts from an Irrisen tombs. We don't know exactly what the texts are, but we know that they hold writings of strong necromancy study. The tomb seemed to be more than 1000 years old, once inhabited by Ulfen wizards, and a very powerful group of them. As far as we know, the texts are their study of magic, and is somewhat more primitive than what we've come to know as modern magic. We need extra eyes to help translate some of the texts. Don't worry, our wizards have dispelled any magic held within the scrolls, so you have no worries about that. All you'll need to do is copy the texts as best as you can. We can provide some glasses that will help you comprehend their ancient language, but if your able to look closer and see any unusual patterns in the text, we would greatly appreciate it. Do you have any questions?

Mat, frustrated with these puzzles, wanders the city in search for inspiration.

The days starts to turn, and Mat still racks his brain for answers to his questions. Who gave him the notes? What is the meaning of the tome? Why is he even considering playing these games. How the hell did someone make that paper dissappear?! Mathwin does not like being left in the dark.

Mat unexpectedly finds himself in Eastgate, as he walks by Redalfo's. Redalfo, the small gnowe owner is out cleaning his steps, as he is very paticular about keeping a clean bar. He spots you as your walking. "Mat! Good to see you buddy! I know you'd come tonight! I just got a few bottles of mead from the north! Says it's supposed to knock you flat on your feet! And we have a traveling minstrel tonight! Always brings in the ladies!"

Redalfo leads you into his place of business. His bar is larger than most in the area, but certainly not the biggest. The best thing about Redalfo's is that the main tavern hall is always clean. He is a very tidy person, and once something is spilled, it never taken more than a minute for someone to come clean it up. For this reason, the prices have been raised to accommodate the type of cliental that visits. Most local drunks can't afford to come here, and Redalfo has been known to escort people out if they are not clean enough.

He sits you down, the tavern is becoming more filled as the night is approaching. Redalfo brings over a bright green bottle, with a piece of leather wrapped around it with the words, "Mountain's Dew", and a picture of a tall mountain underneath. He opens the bottle fresh, and pours you a bright yellow mead that smells of honey and sweet spices. He informs you that tonight they will be serving red fish imported from Almas, with a lemon and roll, if you are interested.

Mat tastes the mead and thanks Redalfo for his offer, but declines food. The mead is sweet and cool and helps settle his mind a touch. Sitting at his table, Mat removes his hat and tries his best to smooth his unruly black mop of hair. Drawing his pipe and his tobacco pouch, he begins to fill the bowl. Mat's eyes flash briefly as he levitates the bottle to pour himself another cup of the mead while his hands are occupied. Lighting the pipe, Mat scans the room, drinks, smokes, and thinks.

The minstrel enters the stage with a lute in hand, and plays to the crowd. He sits, very relaxed, and begins to tell stories of his travels. He speaks of being born in the River Kingdoms to 2 very drunk parents, who beat him when he was a child. Starting on a very low note, many of the crowd starts to murmur, unhappy with the story. The Bard explains that this was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. Running away when he was a small teenager was an eye opening experience. To be born in such darkness, seeing the world for the first time was the most beautiful thing a child could ever imagine. He speaks of his travels as he eventually became a young storyteller. Growing up with liars improved his storytelling abilities quite well. As his story began to become more eventful, he began to sing, with a quite nice voice. He sang of men who brought the dead to life, birds that sang songs that could enthrall even the most unhappiest person, women who could bend more than any women should and even a creature the size of a cathedral!

As Mathwin listens to the minstrel perform he ponders his day. Securing a contract with the Arcananarium will be a good thing for Mathwin. Maybe they will eventually starting turning to him, instead of going to the boards, securing a “consultant” type position, which leaves Mathwin free when he wants to be. He thinks about how well his interview went today.

As the Minstrel ends his performance, he bows and says, “I hope these notes I have played for you have brought you happiness, and I wish you all safe adventures.” Mathwin hears the minstrel and thinks to what he said…notes. He thinks back to the original note he received at the Guild. There might not be any puzzle here, this is just an interview! I’m being interview to see if I can complete a task with little to no information. The note said, “I am in need of adventures for quests that require digression and skill”. Somebody must think that I have one or both of those.

As Mathwin decides if he wants to continue with his mission, he spots a particularly beautiful young lady, eyeing him in the corner. Tan skin, dark brown hair and a face that kills, when you notice her, she raises her drink to you.
