Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
Legerdemain does not a good magic show alone make. To perform legerdemain dexterity. To make it entertaining charisma.
The name is "tonberrian", even when it begins a sentence. It's magic, I ain't gotta 'splain why.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
Here are some quotes from Rich on the Monday meeting blog
A couple things about Exalted: first, we’ll be saying a few things about the line in the weeks to come that should ease some concerns about releases.I agree about it being a time for action. We have no intention of continuing EX3 as things have gone.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
Well, saying that something needs to change is like standing at the North Pole and saying the weather's a bit chilly. But then, we heard the "yeah, things haven't worked out as planned it needs to get better now" speech after the core pdf got out and that was more than a year ago, yet here we are with absolutely nothing new but a few charms to show for.

As a general rule of thumb if you need to point out something isn't impossible, that stranger things have happened and ask us to imagine how cool it would be, it's not worth even considering.
Come back when two splat books drop in two months.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

At this point, I'd settle for two splats in one year...

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
A timeline, for reference:
July 2012 - Shards of the Exalted Dream releases, the last 2e book from something resembling the current team. During this time the 3e ruleset was already said to be in production, although there were no explicit details about how far along it was.
May 2013 - Ten months later. Kickstarter for 3e core is announced. There is a flurry of activity that lasts about the next two months and then tapers off into...
October 2015 - Two and a half years later, Exalted kickstarter backers get their grubby mitts on an actual book
April 2016 - Six months later, the Exalted 3e core is released to the general public, for a total of three years and ten months between releases.
August 2016 - Four months later, Miracles of the Solar Exalted is released, containing a bunch of charms.
It has been either ten months or one year and four months since the corebook release, depending on if you count the backer-only release. What we have gotten in that time has been a small booklet containing Solar charms.
By contrast, in the one year and four months following the corebook release in August 2001, Exalted 1e had released:
-Exalted Storyteller's Companion (August 2001)
-Scavenger Sons (August 2001)
-The Book of Three Circles (September 2001)
-Caste Book: Dawn (November 2001)
-Time of Tumult (January 2002)
-Caste Book: Zenith (February 2002)
-Exalted: The Dragon-Blooded (April 2002)
-Savage Seas (June 2002)
-Caste Book: Twilight (July 2002)
-Games of Divinity (August 2002)
-Caste Book: Night (October 2002)
-Exalted: The Lunars (November 2002)
In the one year and four months following the corebook release in March 2006, Exalted 2e had released:
-Exalted Storyteller's Companion (March 2006)
-Book of Sorcery 1, Wonders of the Lost Age (April 2006) (...wow, no wonder people in 2e were all First Age all the time, it was literally the first supplement besides the Storyteller's Companion)
-Compass of Terrestrial Directions 1, Scavenger Lands (June 2006)
-Manual of Exalted Power: Dragon-Bloods (July 2006)
-Compass of Celestial Directions 1, Blessed Isle (October 2006)
-Scroll of the Monk (November 2006)
-Book of Sorcery 2, Black and White Treatises (January 2007)
-Compass of Celestial Directions 2, The Wyld (March 2007)
-Manual of Exalted Power: Lunars (April 2007)
-Book of Sorcery 3, Oadenol's Codex (May 2007)
-Compass of Terrestrial Directions 2, West (July 2007)
I mean, you can trash on 2e all you like for copypasta, rehashing old material and releasing it full-price, and generally rushing things, but god, at least they released books.
I mean, Dragon-Bloods would be wonderful, but we haven't even gotten to see Arms of the Chosen (the artifacts book) or Paths of Brigid (the sorcery book). Forget new Exalt types, besides a pack of solar charms that was basically a long Ink Monkeys post, we haven't gotten any supplements.
This isn't a time for action, it's a time for "clean out your desk by Friday and don't let the door hit you on the way out."Last edited by Guancyto; 2017-03-17 at 02:41 AM.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
and people back then were all like "No, light systems aren't enough to capture the complexity of the charm sets" and "we need details" and "every Exalted should have a splat to themselves" and "no, we need to take as much time as possible to get the best quality books." and blah blah blah.
Amazing how a few years of perspective changes the tunes. Especially given that the end product of all these fixes wasn't all that universally accepted.
I'll be willing to play a Godbound Exalted game if anyone is interested, just let me know. I think I made the right choice with going with the rules-lite, all Exalts playable in one book approach that I advocated for back when the 3e core book came out. I mean yeah, there is a lot lore and whatnot to flesh out and make deep and all that, but you can flesh all that out in play and such to your own satisfaction and drive your own direction without needing the books. I honestly think I play better just starting with a basic idea of a character then fleshing them out as I go along in play.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
I'm still waiting for when exalted will have enough content that I can run a session without having to homebrew dragonbloods/elementals/charms/evocations. For some reason I doubt they ever will do that though, since they seem determined to have Gm's homebrew hundreds of dice tricks for their gods and elementals.

It is inevitable, of course, that persons of epicurean refinement will in the course of eternity engage in dealings with those of... unsavory character. Record well any transactions made, and repay all favors promptly.. (Thanks to Gnomish Wanderer for the Toreador avatar! )

Recaiden may well be a backer who hasn't gotten their book yet. I am in that category, too. I think in those circumstances it is pretty fair to say "Still waiting on that".

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
I call it "realistic cynicism".
Nothing that Onyx Path (and Ex3e in particular) has done gives me any reason to believe that they're gonna change their tune.
Imagining what it would be like if that was not the case is a waste of time. I imagined it off and on for over a year. Again, if something about that changes, glad to hear it. But it's not.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
Heh. So funny story. I was actually going to post in this thread to ask you guys if you thought I should try to buy some outdated 2e stuff or if I should wait for the new, shiny 3e stuff with my broke person money, given my particular tastes. Since my favorite Exalts are Infernals (particularly Devil Tigers), my immediate thought was that maybe I should get the 2e stuff, since, yunno, BWC is out in that edition. But I was wondering what the odds were that they might come out with shiny Infernal stuff any time soon for 3e, especially since I'm unclear as to whether or not there's *any* stuff out for Infernals in 3e.
Looking at the latest in this thread it seems like you guys consider odds to be... slim of new updates happening anytime soon. So I guess I just wanted to make sure-- how soon do you think we'll be getting Infernals in 3e, if my understanding that they're not out yet is correct? I mean, from what I've read-- Liminals, Exigents, Getimians-- there's a lot of new exaltations out there, and I'm curious as to whether or not you think it's feasible those splats will all be bundles and if there's not something else out there. I'd just like to know before I lock myself into a purchase or not.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVII: Edition of Cascading Years
Yeah....just get the 2e stuff and then convert it to whatever system you like, most Infernal/Yozi stuff is just some superpower but with a weird limitation anyways. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting 3e stuff for Infernals any time soon. If its taking this long just for the core stuff -y'know the things that the Exalted devs actually consider important and core to the game- to come out, then there is very little chance of something considered peripheral like Infernals to come in any reasonable timeframe.
