Mithral breastplate is usually the best option for characters who want armour for the AC and not just as a vehicle for ASA.

Darkleaf (A&EG, Eberron Campaign Setting) is cheaper than mithral.

    200 GP, Breastplate
    150 GP, Masterwork
    2250 GP, Darkleaf
    1000 GP, +1 enhancement

    3600 GP Total.

    Consider adding:

2000 GP, Lesser Rubicund Frenzy (MIC)
1470 GP, +1 Dwarven Buckler Axe
2500 GP, Lesser Crystal of Arrow Deflection (MIC)

+1 chain shirt + dastana + chahar-aina (Oriental Adventures) gives you a better total armor bonus (+7 instead of +6), but some DMs get twitchy about stacking both the dastana and chahar-aina on top of each other.

If really wanting to max out your AC bonus with your available money (and not trying to stack the reasonably obscure slotless AC items) your best option would be +1 Mithril Fullplate. That would be a 20 AC with just that and your Dex mod. Thats not outstanding AC, but with an already high CON you should be fine. If you don't want to lower your movement rate, feel free to go with something lighter.
