Autism & RPGs
I'm the father of three boys on the autism spectrum. This is something I wrote about the benefits if you will like to pass it along:

Re: Autism & RPGs
As a university student with Asperger's tendencies, who has a friend with Asperger's, I can agree with this. Tabletop RPG's in particular are very effective.
Your friendly neighbourhood sniperman.
My controversial opinions:- I like blue souls.
- Alignment isn't terrible.
My Homebrew: Feng Shui; Magic in Zones, Plus others I'm not particularly proud of rn.

Re: Autism & RPGs
Hmm. I liked the article. I can't really relate (my kids are too young for D&D, and no clue about the autism spectrum, though supposedly my brother had Asperger's), but I did like it.

Re: Autism & RPGs
yes, RPG's do help a lot, I'm on the spectrum and it does allow me to understand others better and interact with the world better. when your constantly thinking of how your characters would think and feel like, you get a better sense of how other people think and feel. its like making false shoes to put oneself in.

Re: Autism & RPGs
I have found that many people on the more "high functioning" end of the spectrum do seem to be helped by the structure and ability to develop skills and practice of seeing the world through the eyes of dissimilar people to themselves. Also it is a good way to vent frustrations in a way that gets a positive social response that also shows distinct and objective changes to the agreed environment. Actually an agreed environment where the are also expected norms etc may be a major factor in why RPGS are so helpful. Food for thought.

You are right sktarq.
Something I hope neurotypicals have is a little patience or understanding when they find something 'odd' in the playing style of others.
I hope maturity can abound and focus on enjoying the game rather than putting down others.RulerOfKings.com Medieval Text RPG
