I never noticed the three blue tentacles coming out of the left-most stall. And now I'm wondering what monster that could be. Who/what has blue tentacles and identifies as female?

I've been poking around since posting my original post and I think it's Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungus. She was first portrayed as a puffball fungus but in later media, she is depicted as a blue skinned female with pseudopods. Check out how she is pictures in Temple of Elemental Evil

So it never really occurred to me before... but in panel 6 here, is Qarr talking about Therkla? I always just assumed it was an unspecified vague background reference.

I certainly took it that way (that she meant Therkla choosing the face Elan shared with Nale over Kubota).

(Of course, if Therkla had unambiguously done that instead of trying to save both, it could have ended much better for her, as Therkla herself pointed out.)

Just reading Start of Darkness again, and I noticed

when the Azurite paladins are approaching, one of the goblins asks, "Does anyone else hear that?" (or something along those lines)... I had never noticed the "clipclopclipclop ClipClopClipClop CLIPCLOPCLIPCLOP" sound effect line at the bottom of the panel.

Probably because the lettering is in white across a grey background, with some other details as well behind the lettering as I recall.

And in #10 (yup, reading the whole series from the beginning again), I spotted the foreshadowing in V's speech to the goblins...

"And lo, in days and years to come, when the children come to play in the smoking crater that once held your den of evil..."
Which turned out to be about 110 strips, actually, before it would be a smoking crater. (In 119 it was still technically an exploding mountain, not quite yet a smoking crater. Or, arguably, it was still exploding in the first panel of 120 as well. )

In #632, one of the fiends (I can never tell them apart) says "Our slogan is 'Blood War, Huh, Who Is It Good For?'" Which of course is riffing off the famous Edwin Starr song, "War (what is it good for?)" And the next fiend says "Good gods, y'all!" Which is basically the next line in the song, just pluralized. (I had a link to the song, but I forgot I can't do links yet.)

But what I realized the other day was that "Good gods, y'all!" is actually a literal answer to the question in the slogan. A blood war between the infernal types is indeed good for the good gods.

Maybe if I feel really industrious I'll start a "Sound Effect Index" thread...

It definitely isn't the most used, but its a popular one for him to use for certain effects. If you end up making a dedicate thread, the Transcription of the Stick that I curate happens to Transcribe EVERY sound effect (as well as dialogue and other things written in the strip) that occurs, and may be of use to you when compiling.

OMG! The Giant shows again an attention to details far greater than what could possibly imagine! I had just thought "it's a dwarf-sounding name".

And now I'll have to research the other names...

V is the easy one, a clear reference to Mount Vesuvius.
