A giant Alison made from green fire.
    Okay, Pat definitely has issues.

Also, have we seen the real Al in a outfit like that before?
    It looks familiar.

Good point. I hadn't considered that. I was assuming he was a memory construct.

I guess that these were mommy's thoughts? Because I really don't see many women breaking a dog's neck without much effort.

Patrick's mom is apparently cast from the same mold as T.C. in Preacher.

I see the dog didn't stay where it fell, which means it's not really dead. Because dead stuff does not move, outside of zombie movies and spooky scary skeletons. So if the dog didn't remain where it fell, it's because it went away, which means it's alive and well.

Alternatively, because the artist doesn't give a crap about the webcomic anymore and was too lazy to draw it. I honestly couldn't fault her for that if that's the explanation.

Third option - this is a memory, and the dog disappeared because it's no longer the focus of Child-Patrick's attention.

Fourth option the dog was an vampire and turned to ash upon death. Yes that wouldn't kill most vampires but maybe dogs make ****ty vamps.

Okay, this has to be faked.

Well, maybe not faked exactly, but at the very least Pat might be mixing his memories of what happed and what people thought when it happed.
It wouldn't even surprise me if he isn't even aware of it.

Well, either that or his mom was ridiculously crazy.

I'm still convinced that this is all staged by Pat. After all, he has already gleefully admitted that he's priding himself on his ability to manipulate anyone thanks to his ability to read their mind, and he is the one who chose the path back to where she thinks she needs to be. If he didn't want her seeing this, it'd be entirely in his power to hide it. And now it seems that Al has oh so conveniently forgot the reason why she came here in the first place.

And now I remember Moonshadow and those clowns at Sonar's convention-thingy...

True enough. The way the comic went so far this might very well be exactly what happened.

Still more nuanced than Sinfest though.
    Slightly.

Still, this whole flashback just seems so ridiculously exaggerated that there has to be some different explanation.

I mean, the different parts of this are mostly believable, but all put together it falls apart.

But maybe that's just cause the part of that's preten... trying to believe in humanity and to be a descent person recoils from that little whisper of „You know, people have done worse. Even to family.”

I miss Sinfest, shame it ended so soon.

On the subject of comics that are still running, I actually like a theory I heard that a lot of the game changing mutants died from more mundane causes then some far reaching conspiracy. Things like locals and even family who freaked out at the scale of their power and killed them or tried to exploit them to similar results. It doesn't quite hold up to what we know in universe but it would be an interesting idea on its own.

Sooner or later I'll have to read Sinfest, it sounds like some sort of touchstone, although not in a good way.

    Heh!

I'm still wondering who the "ethics professor" is and what he was doing. He seems to have been a bit of a white rabbit, causing Alison to go to a very specific part of the mindscape.

It seems pretty clear that Child Patrick has a single very limited scope as an almost literal self defense mechanism to keep various memories repressed. Hardly just him being a stock evil murdering psychopath.

And he literally just got done telling her that he really is that way, and how it came to pass. He committed horrific psychic self-surgery on himself to cut out most of what makes human connection possible. He was a kid and had reasons for doing it, but it doesn’t change the fact that having done it turned him into someone who yes, absolutely would murder someone who was a potential threat to his existence-as-he-knows-it. Even an abstract threat like ‘connected with him in a way that risks rebuilding some of the emotional terrain in his own head that he deliberately burned to the the ground.’
