I feel like Europe is pretty much the only one that gets big enough and has enough of a terrain mix for this.

Pseudo-Europe includes both North Africa and the Middle East as possible start locations. I would also hope start bias is on, as it's generally there for a reason

Thing is, creating the game it only allows 12 players, but I've seen 22 player games? Perhaps someone subs in for the AI immediately?

Would the invite link be affected based on the nation played? Or should we have it used by the timezones properly set up so we can efficiently take everyone's turns?

If you have the Custom Advanced Setup Screen mod, you can create 13+ player games from the mod menu (Mods → turn on CASS → Single Player → Custom Game → Advanced Setup).

edit: or are you talking about GMR itself? I wouldn't know about that

Nah, I'm fine with Byzantium (and I don't think anyone else rolled a DLC civ). I always feel a little guilty playing science-focused civilizations like Babylon or Korea anyway.
