FR: Quest for the Forgotten Key IC (Sequoia)

Teb raises a huge hand and rumbles his order.
"I wan' some food. An' some drink."

Ark takes his ale, and hands over the 5 silver pieces. Cheers. He turns and looks up at his burly companion. Teb, do you want to sleep here tonight? It doesn't seem so bad, does it? he says soothingly.

Teb grunts, but then he looks thoughtfully at the wall of the inn.
"Hey Ark...how thick you think the walls are?"

Ark looks around. I'm not sure. They're driven into the ground though, so they can't move at all. He takes a sip of his ale, and coughs. He braces himself, and carries on drinking.

While waiting for his order, Teb wanders over to the threshold of the door and uses his gauntleted hands to measure the width of the doorframe. The hulking half-orc takes a step back and peers at the distance between his hands. He squeezes one eye shut and gazes at the ceiling, his broad purple tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth as he thinks.

The halfling regards Teb with a raised eybrow while pouring another ale with tiny, well practiced hands. She turned and looked over her shoulder with a shout.

"Torvald! A plate of sup... and make it a big one."

A large middle-aged Illuskan pokes his head out from the kitchen window, his red and white braided hair and beard tied into braids.

"Al'right, al'right, one sheppard's pie comin' up."

Moments later, a large wooden bowl with steamy-looking and yummy-smelling contents is set on the sill of the kitchen window, and the sound of a bell ringing is heard. The halfling hops off the stool, clambers onto the counter underneath, grabs the dish, hops back down deftly, and climbs back onto her stool, setting the bowl down by the ale without spilling a drop. She reaches into her apron and produces a wooden spoon, placing it in the bowl with a sigh.

"YOU! here's yer food. One gold."

Shortly afterwards, a scruffy looking man with leather armor and a shield approaches the halfling and reserves a spot in the male dorm for the night.

Come on, Teb, come and eat your dinner, says Ark. Have you decided whether we're staying here or not? If we don't decide soon, those two beds will go.

Looking back down at the bar at the halfling's shout, Teb stalks over to the bar. Taking a seat, Teb grunts and reaches into the amalgamation of furs and armor he wears and retreives a small pouch. With great care, Teb reaches inside and retireves a slightly-tarnished golden coin and hands it to the halfling. Leaving the Ale aside for the moment, Teb removes his magic hands and lays them on the bar with a thunk. Grinning, Teb rubs his hands together and tucks into the shepard's Pie with gusto, ignoring completely the tiny spood laid by the plate.

With astonishing quickness, the plate is empty, and Teb grasps the mug of ale in one greasy hand and raises it towards the ceiling, slopping a little over the side. He takes a deep breath and bellows
"Nog Grokk Hup!"
And drains the mug in a few quick gulps, returning it with a thunk to the counter. A contented smile spreads across the half-orc's green-tinted face, so wide in fact that his tusks seem to present a real danger to his eyes.

Ark takes his own battered mug, from which he's only drained a small amount, and raises it high.
Nok Grog Hump! he shouts enthusiastically, and drains all his ale in one go.
He slams his mug down on the counter. Another one, please!

Teb looks up at the ceiling as Ark makes his query.
" 'M still sleepin' on the roof." A thought seems to strike him, and lowers his gaze to the halfling bartender.
"Hey, is that okay?"
But then Ark makes his mangled orcish-toast, and Teb looks with suprise at the shorter man sitting next to him. Then he grins.
"yeah, okay. 'Nother cup."

Ark gets out a gold coin. I'll pay for yours as well as mine, Teb.

The halfling sighed and massaged the bridge of her nose before taking the gold piece and putting it in a drawer behind the counter and producing two more mugs of ale.

"There will be no sleeping on the roof. You're so big you'd probably fall right through, and then we'd have to charge you for the damage, and that's way more of a hastle than we want to deal with. You can either sleep in the stables with the horses for 5 silver, the men's dorm for 5 gold, outside on the lawn for 5 silver, or the lot of you can rent the master suite for 30 gold - the master suite does have a balcony you could sleep on as well. There's also an attached washroom and four bunks in that room."

Teb was listening, really he was, as the inkeeper started listing the options. But then, well...she was still talking, and there was stuff to drink right in front of him. With an internal shrug, Teb hoists the Mug and bellows
"Nog Grokk Goom!"
and swiftly drains that mug as well.

We'll take the master suite, please! He nudges Teb. You can sleep on the balcony. That will be nice won't it? He counts out 30 gold from the money the wizard gave the party. He looks at the three women. Is there any objections to that?

Chanda

Chanda rolls her eyes at Teb's comment, and proceeds briskly through several glasses of water, graciously offering a few gold pieces in return--even in places less arid than Calimshar, Chanda's upbringing forced her to value water a bit more than most.

"So, then," she says, finishing her sixth and final glass with one ravenous gulp, "I have no objections, so long as the lot of you haven't drunk yourselves stupid."

Ark waves his hand reassuringly. Ah, don't ya worry, didn't I tell you, I'm Ark Noble, the manliesht man in all of Cormyr! I won't get that drunk!

The halfling nods and takes the money, then turns Ark's now empty mug upside-down with a chuckle before producing a skeleton key with the number 302 on it.

"You're cut off, kid... But here's yer key."

The Illuskan man with greying hair poked his head back out the window again.

"Wait, wait wait... Did I just here ye say tha' yer the manliest man in Cormyr? And Drunk on two-beer? HAH, I've seen Lise up there drink more than that!"

"I think i can keep up with you Ark" Svanna says with a small smirk on her face. SHe places 5 silver on the bar.

I will split the room sounds good to me.

Teb looks a little concerned as Ark slumps in his seat, and prods him in the ribs once or twice.
"You 'kay, Ark?"
With no reply forthcoming, Teb slips his magic hands back onto his fists and lifts his friend bodily without apparent effort and slings him across his shoulders.
Teb chuckles to himself, and prepares to follow Svanna.

Seeing that Ark can't even stand, Svanna stands up takes the key from his limp hand and heads toward room 302, even before her next round comes to her.
"Come on Teb lets get this manly man to his room" She just stiffled a giggle a she spoke to Teb

Bloody ijuts, dey fink der so hard, jus cus I nefer drink much, I'm noh uzet to it... mumbles Ark, forcing his eyes open a bit. I'll show ya all... he starts to wiggle his fingers, and mutter, but nothing happens. Fug! Fuggin Fug! Bane dam it! Teb, you believe me dont ya? Is all a plan. He taps his nose as Teb carries him, or at least tries to, but misses his face. Im pretendin to be drunk ya see, so when we is attacked I'll shurprise dem!

Teb smiles softly to himself as he trudges up the stairs, the stairs groaning underneath his weight.
Aloud, he says " Yeah. And saying them Orcish toasts like that, yer handling the change real quick!"

I know! He waves his arms, nearly hitting his friend in the face. I fought, time to enshoy meshelf ya know? I'f got dis bel, I ought to be abel ta hold loadsh of alchahol! But I'm jesh no ushed to it.

Teb waves a hand, dismissively.
"Nah, nah, not that. I mean...You don't speak Orc, right?"
There's a grin on his face that's somewhat hard to read, but it seems to be a mixture of pride and amusement.

Nah... Ark shakes his head. I shpeak Mulhowandi and Rasheemee and Common and Infernal and Abyshal and Draconic.

Teb chuckles.
"Yeah, yer real smart. But...that Orc toast has a meanin', and you ev'n did the second one!"

I knowsh, I'm brilliant! He grins the happy grin of someone who is rather drunk.
