Thread: Nom Nom Nom?

  1. - Top - End - #1

    Default Nom Nom Nom?

First I'd like to say Erfworld is a great comic :)

English isn't my first language, so anyone explain to me please what kind of sound is "Nom Nom Nom"? (the one the green dwagon makes at page 50)

It's a chewing sound. It's not an English onomatopoeia, but an internet one. It's supposed to represent the sound you'd make while chewing exaggeratedly with your mouth open.

I saw it as sort of a Cookie Monster reference (from Sesame Street) since that's the noise he always used to make when he was eating cookies. If it's become popular on the net, I can only presume that it was likewise sourced from Cookie Monster and popularised.
Don't bother trying to appeal to my better nature; I don't have one.

In french we would rather say or write "miam miam" (two words instead of three, but the sound is similar)

The best part of studying a language is learning about it's onomatopoeia.
The above post made a lot more sense in my head.

This onomatopoeia has also now been spotted in the local photowebcomic Ask Dr. Eldritch! Warning: it contains a spoiler to the latest storyline. *SPOILER* Nom Nom Nom

Snag some Erfworld avatars and backgrounds, make some lolerfs and motivators (or demotivators), read my Erfworld fanmix, or check out my latest spotlight on an under-discussed webcomic: Head Trip (Scilight #13)!

The spoiler is for Ask Dr. Eldritch, not Erfworld.

Yes. That. Sorry for the ambiguity. Just wanted to give people the choice about whether to jump into a strip that ties up a minor plot thread in a comic that probably not many here have read.
