Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
Aed, when you can, there was a question for you regarding Hostile Takeover in my Stats/Rulers post.
Also: Aawino (24) needs Food, and the Limelight Bayou (22) needs Metals (Silver/Gold, shiny stuff)
woooli, I'm updating stats now. Please check to make sure Queen Eleanor is correct.
You had 4, but due to the +1 Curiosity (and +1 Military) from Round 9, Round 10 puts you at Curiosity 5 (and Military 3). Thank you for being nit-picky! I'd rather confirm correct stats, then have wrong ones.Last edited by Gengy; 2016-02-07 at 07:19 PM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
Got everybody who posted their ruler's names in round 9 into my XCOM 2 character pool now (except Blade, still waiting for word back on his title). Had to take some liberties with character length but I think they generally work (even all got different nicknames based on your ruler titles)
Next up is customization! Then I can go into my next campaign (yeah, my first playthrough didn't go much better after the Rose Court all died) and hopefully bring you all onto my crew!

Keep rubbing it in, why don't you? ()
(Really, don't remind me. Aside from Yahagmir, the NPCs got really lucky. 33 had a 5% chance of surviving as an isolated event, and 31 was around 13%. Even Yahagmir was less than 50%, though a much fairer fight than the other two. The odds for all three invasions failing were about 1 in 128, but lo and behold...)Last edited by BladeofObliviom; 2016-02-08 at 10:07 AM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
When I was reading the dice rolls before the round opener, i thought that the attack roll was mine and the defense rolls was theirs, which meant I won by one. Which would've been bad, but it would've been a victory.
Instead I lost in the bloodiest rebellion in the Imperium's history (not that that's saying much), all of my legions were broken and I now have split loyalties in my own capital.
I'm just glad Phelnia rolled max on 2d8. She's supposed to be the smart one.Last edited by HalfTangible; 2016-02-08 at 11:01 AM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
Yeah, it was a good round for NPCs in general. We were all thinking Dark was going overkill by sending so many units, but frankly all the NPCs rolled improbably well and, frankly, it worked.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
It's debatable. We fought three battles and, though we didn't win any, we only lost two units in total. Dark fought and won one, but lost three. We had a solid probability of victory in all the battles, and submitting enough troops to alter that significantly would have likely opened us up to more bonus losses - which means more recovery time.
I'd take the same actions again in the same way, personally - indeed, given my poor luck conquering NPCs early in the game it's arguable that this kind of was doing it again. The strategy was fine on paper; we just got unlucky - and hopefully that should, over the long term, balance out.GITP Blood Bowl Manager Cup

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
*nod* Example: I lost all of my troops due in large part to good NPC rolls (Mil 10!), but my Dip action to stabilize Primus to ensure this doesn't happen again was the max possible roll.
Games with RNG/die rolls like this one tend to balance out over the long term, so long as you don't do anything TOO stupid. Everyone remembers when a 98% shot fails in XCOM, and that leads to the squad getting wiped out. What they tend to forget are the terrible placement of your troops that make a total wipe like that even possible, or that you haven't researched better armor yet, or that your lieutenant was the only ranked officer you still had.Hate me if you want. Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
Sometimes it is, though it's better still to avoid going overkill and still win. Overkill has a tendency to increase your losses via bonus loss rules and such. This is, after all, the primary reason not to use overwhelming force in every single possible conflict. I will maintain that the League's military used an appropriate amount of force despite ultimately losing; if the same situation came up again, I would advise sending similar levels of force (with some alterations to account for the military stats of the Grey Dukes becoming known factors) despite this incident having gone badly. Assuming that they couldn't roll that well again would be an example of the Gambler's Fallacy, but them rolling that well in the first place was a serious stroke of luck.
EDIT: Totally ninja'd. Still though.Last edited by BladeofObliviom; 2016-02-08 at 11:54 AM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
While the interest in her craft is widespread the Bellarion native is most interested in the offers made by the Wandering Clans and her native Avonlea. In the end however it seems her nativist loyalties win through and with apologies to the Clans and all the other bidders for her work she chooses Avonlea to be her patron. The earring is presented to the Prophetess Council that they might present it to the next Queen upon her coronation.
Thanks Aedilred; you couldn't find them because I haven't submitted them yet... Lack of creativity on my part; which is partly why I've slowed my exploration and expansion. Here is the write up for 260, 259 is still in progress - hopefully I'll have it done within a day or so.
Spoiler: Region 260- Aladar
Aladar
Region: 260
Population: 800,000 Humans
Religion: House of the Pale Lady (minority), Pagan (the cult of Wrack - minority), Pagan (variety of older traditions - minority)
Resource: Ember-Iron (Good)
Needed: Herd Animals (cattle, sheep, goats)
Spoiler: Terrain
Bordered by a rough and angry sea to the east, the land rises sharply in the north and west, forming a lowland plain through the majority of the region. Once almost entirely settled, the disaster known locally as the Scourge - a flaming rock from the heavens that smashed the old capital and devastated the region - has left large pockets of wilderness amidst the farms, pastures, and towns of the human populace.
The blasted ruins of the once mighty capital of Aladar Imperius lies on the coast of the eastern sea, it’s shattered buildings said to be haunted by the spirits of the thousands who died there when the Scourge came. Only the bravest or most foolhardy local will dare enter the ruins in search of ember-iron shards; most are never heard from again.
Far out in the bay where the capital once sat lies the great Maelstrom, an eternal storm of rough, churning waters marking where the largest fragment of the Scourge crashed into the sea. No boats ply the waters anywhere near this area - nothing that currently sails the sea could possibly survive amidst the roiling waves.
Spoiler: People
The people of Aladar are pale-skinned and dark-haired, averaging five and half feet tall; eyes are commonly brown, though there are more than a few families that have blue or green eyed members.
Aladarian’s culture has changed greatly since the Scourge some two centuries past; gone are the ambitions to glory and conquest, replaced by an insular standoffish-ness generated by an underlying fear that whatever god or gods brought down the Scourge will do so again. Communities look to themselves and are largely ignorant of the goings on of the wider world.
Spoiler: Religion
The former state-cult of Aladar, once a region spanning monolith, was badly fragmented and changed by the Scourge. While the largest fragments of the flaming rock hit the capital, a great many grand churches were struck by smaller fragments, giving rise to a common belief that they had been specifically targeted by divine wrath - that a foreign god or gods had defeated their own and sent the Scourge as a punishment for persecuting their faithful. Many of the priests who survived the initial devastation did not survive the chaos that followed. In the wake of this disaster many of the people returned to older faiths, embracing a wide variety of beliefs, including more recently the House of the Pale Lady.
A fragment of the old state-cult did survive, though changed and driven to secrecy in the face of hostility from the majority of the populace. Believing that the Scourge had been the physical form of their god cast down from the heavens, they believe that if enough of the shattered fragments of his body can be brought back together, their god can be reborn to take vengeance on those who struck him down.
Spoiler: Resources
The greatest resource the region has to offer is the scattered fragments of the Scourge, a material which has come to be called Ember-Iron for it’s unique properties; water and most other liquids brought into contact with Ember-Iron rapidly heats - a tiny sliver of the metal left in a bucket of water will boil away the contents within an hour. So far no one has been able to successfully alloy Ember-Iron, and it is brittle and incredibly difficult to work in it’s natural state, making it unsuitable for tools or weapons; it‘s value remains as a luxury - a sliver set in a frame of another metal used to heat baths, boil cauldrons without needing a fire, etc..
The people of the region have a need for Herd Animals; most of the native animals fled or were eaten in the aftermath of the Scourge, and the locals are desperate to add new blood to their pitifully small and inbred stock.

Another great podcast Pepper (and everyone else)!
You were correct in using a Russian accent, as the toast is mostly a direct phonetic translation of Russian - Aed was pretty much spot on in his pronunciation; it helps to have a few glasses of vodka first, to limber up the tongue and put you in the right frame of mind.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-III-Fabricated-Claim-to-Fame
I just now realized that it was "Lt" and not "it".
Pepper and Dark got it right.
Tacking on to Aed's point about past tense, I just wanted to bring up the common trap of past participles. Past participle tenses (past progressive "he was writing", past perfect "he had written", past perfect progressive "he had been writing") are not the same thing as past tense, but many writers often use them that way in independent clauses. This leads to inconsistent tensing, which sounds clunky.Last edited by BootStrapTommy; 2016-02-08 at 02:39 PM.

Writing about the underground is hard. I find myself constantly stumbling over verisimilitude. What are Underdwellers' options for food? How the hell to you write a compelling under ground society?
