I don't know for certain about this bit in particular, but knowing what I know in general about gaming companies, it's extremely unlikely that any company currently in business has any of TSR's old files laying around. If that stuff still exist at all, it's probably in Gary Gygax's grandkid's attic or somesuch.

    Way to kill the joke...

But remember storytelling could certainly benefit from a group of protagonists with different expertises. Someone who is willing to fight for what they believe in (Fighting Man), someone who provides (emotional) backup (Cleric), a wise figure to guide all and occasionally think outside the box (Wizard) and a charismatic Influencer that even circumvents social traps and may even backstab one or two adversaries (Thief).

It depends. When some South American politician showed up on an anime convention to show "how much in touch with the youth he is", and someone asked him to autograph a deathnote, it was hilarious for everyone but him.

Some people feel that way. I believe that position is far from universally true. Braininthejar2's example is a good one for the kind of trolling most people would find amusing.

Mearls' gag with the golden girls strikes me as another. He's trolling the newbs that are too young or otherwise uninformed enough to know what that show is and how absurd it is that those women were a model for anything in 2e.

For what it's worth, while it might be trolling, its certainly plausible.

I mean, speaking as somebody who has watched a lot of Golden Girls.

What's the ideal adventuring party? Roughly four intelligent individuals from differant walks of life who all have differant experiences and aproches to things that allow them to tackle a wide variety of problems and fall into distinct archetypes. While they're distinct personalities and approches should occasionally lead to conflict within the group, it whould never escalate past bickering and at the end of the day they're close friends who have each other's backs.

That's basically the Golden Girls in a nutshell.

That's not really trolling, that's an inside joke.

Trolling is doing something (which could be anything really) to get a rise out of someone else for your amusement. It's the internet equivilant of putting a finger in someone's face and going 'I'm not touching you'

I dunno, I think Tieflings would fit better. Mischievous, thieving like halflings but larger and possibly with horns.
