    Doltan decapitates centipede #3!


    Centipede #8 scoots in to squeeze and bites at Cerise! But the squeezing fouls it up and it fumbles, biting itself! But it does not die of its own bite.

    Centipede #6 skitters!


    Dacianne asks if anyone sees a harp! Nobody sees nor hears a harp.


    Cerise stabs bug #4! It dies!


    Centipede #7 enters the melee! It bites at Cerise, but she evades its attack!


    I'll Stop Wasting Your Time Now

    Dacianne shoots but misses!


    Centipede #2 skitters!


    Doltan whacks all the legs off centipede #8 and it dies!


    Centipede #6 enters the fray, bites at Cerise, misses!


    Cerise retaliates, stabs centipede #6, it dies!


    Centipede #7 attacks Cerise, misses!


    Dacianne shoots, misses!


    Centipede #2 enters the melee! It attacks... Cerise! (I'm rolling randomly for targets each time, it just keeps coming up Cerise.) It misses her!


    Doltan critically hits centipede #7! Lip Cut: Double damage and 1 bleed. Target gains 20% spell failure chance for verbal spells until healed. Which is to say, Doltan chops off its toxignaths, then he chops off its face. It entirely dies.


    Cerise stabs the last centipede, and it dies too.


    Everyone gains 300xp each! (By my calculations, Dacianne and Matters are 50xp away from dinging 4.)

    The party loots the corpses... finds no loot! The party enters the room and searches it for loot... at the bottom of the 20'-deep pit to the northwest lies a fresh-ish (weeks old, maybe) stinking corpse, and on one finger of that corpse glints something shiny.

    The shallow brook burbles.

    There's an open archway leading into a room to the west! Beyond, an angry-looking 7-foot-long flamey snake! Which has not yet noticed the party, or if it has noticed them, has not yet chosen to care about them! Matters and Dacianne both identify it as a lesser flame snake, intermediate between a minor flame snake and a greater flame snake, a powerful angry monster that can spit magma and stuff.

    In the room to the west with the flame snake is some miscellaneous laboratory equipment, onto which a wall has partially collapsed. Also: graffiti. Somebody has scrawled something in Infernal on a wall. Nobody here can translate it.

    Lots of stuff happens, she misses a lot, she cheers on the others, the others kill stuff, she smiles and cheers them on.

    Room to the west, she gives a bit of nod and decides to... try to help. It hasn't noticed them... so... she will sneak up to it, to get within 30 feet and shoot it in the back.

    The party enters the flame snake's room and prepares to fight it together! But the snake, being aware of them and only just this side of not actively hostile, resists being Surpise Round-ed, so it's just regular combat. However, it rolled garbage for its initiative.


    Doltan... delays to just after Dacianne and Cerise but before the snake!


    Dacianne gets to within 30' and shoots at the creature, and her bolt bounces off its tough flamey hide! Then she reloads!


    Cerise charges the snake! She brings her sword down upon it, and it also bounces ineffectively off the creature's tough hide she actually just barely hits it because of the bonus from charging that doesn't appear to have been figured into her roll! This creature is precision-stabbable, and she injures it! It hisses at her.


    I'll give Doltan and Matters a chance to declare actions, then it's the flame snake's go. Dacianne and Cerise can also declare actions for next round if they want, no big deal, they'll just be after the flame snake now.

    Doltan charges snek! He strikes it with great fury! It reels!


    Matters joins in the snake bumrush!


    The flame snake hisses, its wounds begin to close slowly, and strikes at Doltan with its fangs and the spike on the end of its tail! It hits him, then it hits him again! Doltan takes 6 physical damage (reduced to 2 by DR) and 6 fire damage (not reduced by DR) as it burns him with its mouth! It also injects fiery burny poison into him, and Doltan takes 1 strength damage! With its tail spike, it deals 3 physical damage (reduced to 0 by DR) and 4 fire damage (not reduced)!


    Dacianne scoots around and completely misses the creature!


    Cerise takes a whack at the snake with her sword, but her blade bounces off its thick skin!


    Doltan shifts into Martial Spirit and uses Stone Power! His damage taken is reduced by 5 as his delayed damage pool gets eaten by temporary HP, but then he completely misses the snake!


    Matters swings, but misses!


    The snake fast heals a little again, and targets Doltan again! Again, it hits him twice! Doltan takes 7 physical (reduced to 3) and 7 fire (not reduced) and poison! He resists the poison this time! Then he takes from the tail spike 6 physical damage (reduced to 2) and 7 fire damage (not reduced)! Doltan also takes 2 fire damage as the creature's burning poison from last round continues to burn through his veins!

    Doltan's eyes flare with anger once more as his ability to shrug off damage is clearly outdone. He screams in both pain and sheer anger.

    "STUPID CRITTER! THAT. HURT! I'LL FIND YOUR FAMILY AND SHOW THEM THE BOOTS I MADE OUT OF YOU!"

    The poison coursing through his veins burns, but while he barely hangs on to consciousness, he still manages to lift his sword up and to swing it at the offending snake.

    Dacianne drops her crossbow, moves and draws her daggers, and flanks with Matters! She stabs with great gusto and great precision, barely hitting it but backstabbing it anyway! (Fun fact: this creature has Uncanny Dodge, so it couldn't be sneak attacked in the first round or when otherwise flat-footed. It does not, however, have Improved Uncanny Dodge, so flanking allows sneak attack.)


    Cerise sticks her sword right in a sensitive spot, injuring the snake more!


    Doltan uses Stone Power, and pokes at the snake, an attack that does not connect! He also Fast Heals by 1 because of Matters!


    Matters moves around the snek, attracting its attention and its AoO biteys! A critical threat that does not confirm! Matters takes 8 physical damage and 10 fire damage (and she is unaffected by its poison)! Then Matters strikes the creature, damaging it with great violence and healing Doltan for 2! Then Matters also Fast Heals for 1.


    The flame snake, Fast Healing a bit, ponders its four foes. It is smart enough to notice that Doltan is resisting its attacks better than Matters is. Still, they both look about equally injured. And then there are the other two who are being effective now, too. In the end it decides almost at random (actually yes at random, but never mind) to attack Doltan with its bite! A natural 1! It bites the floor instead! Hissing, it then strikes at Doltan with its tail (also at random; this d4 loves to roll 4s)! It hits him with its tail spike! Doltan takes 3 physical damage (reduced to nothing by DR) and 10 fire damage! And Doltan takes 2 more fire damage from the burning poison still coursing through his veins! (By my calculations, this leaves Doltan at 1 hit point and 5 in his Delayed Damage pool.)

    The flame snake is looking just about exactly half as vigorous as it was looking at the beginning of the fight.

    Doltan is obviously badly hurt, on the brink of losing consciousness. Yet he hangs on and ignores the tiny threads of light that try and call him into the realm of dreams. This time though, he finds little energy to spare yelling at his enemy, and instead focuses the remaining shred of will he has into his trusty blade, and lunges forward.

    Doltan yet stands against all odds, and chooses to continue using Stone Power for that to remain a fact at least a few seconds longer.
    The gods chose not to grant him access to a Crusader's Strike this time around, so he chooses to put all his might into a Mountain Hammer strike.
