Default Armello: Woodland Critters Fighting to the Death

I was going to write my own thing up but I realized I suck at expository writing so I just copy-pasted the description from the Steam Store page:

    Spoiler
    Show
Armello is a grand swashbuckling adventure that combines three styles of play; The deep tactics of card games with the rich strategy of table top board games, combined with a character role-playing system.

As a hero from one of the clans of Armello, you'll quest, scheme, hire agents, explore, vanquish monsters, cast spells and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello. The Kingdom of Armello is as dangerous as it is beautiful, perils, banes and bandits hide around every corner and a spreading corruption known as the rot is leaving no creature untouched.

Armello is League of Geeks’ attempt to revolutionise digital board and card games, whilst providing players a rich world within which they can craft their own stories of epic adventure. The aim was to create a rich game full of backstabbing, close shaves, shattered alliances, ruses and empty promises - a perfect game to play with your friends.

Easy to Play but Hard to Master - Armello is an intuitive game, easy to pick up and experience but with deep and emergent strategy. Full release will include a tutorial mode.

Fast & Thoughtful - Adventuring in Armello is fast-paced fun but filled with deadly tactical and politically complex decisions requiring careful forethought and planning.

Multiple Playable Heroes - Full release will include 8 playable Heroes. Each unique Hero possess a special power, stat line and Ai personality. Also heroes can be customised with Amulet and Signet Ring load-outs to match your play style or counter an opponents strategy.

Dynamic Sandbox - Armello features a gorgeous dynamic world which procedurally generates a new map each and every game, complete with a dynamic quest system ensuring no two games of Armello are ever the same.

Turn-Based Day & Night Cycle - Armello features a fuzzy turn-based system, cycling between Day and Night phases. The fuzzy turns allow you to still play cards and do certain actions when its not your turn, and when it is you use Action Points to move around the hex board.

World Class Music & Audio - By Michael Allen, internationally acclaimed artist Lisa Gerrard, Stephan Schutze and Jacek Tuschewski.

Animated Cards - Armello will feature over a 120+ beautifully animated in-game Cards, from artists all over the world.

True Tabletop Feel - We spent months making sure we cherry-picked the best parts of the tabletop experience, like our custom physics-based dice!
I notice that there's a lot of talk in there about what will be featured, but that's all left-over from when it was on Early Access and they haven't updated the store page to reflect that it's been finished.

Over the past few months I've really been enjoying playing this. You can play with bots, but once you've familiarized yourself with the game, they just won't cut it. At that point you've got to head to the multiplayer, which is WAY more engaging and much harder to predict than the AI opponents.

I wish I was better at descriptions and conveying my enthusiasm. I really want more people to play this. I can't even make friends in-game because there is no chat. Just emotes. While I like the emotes, they aren't particular good at carrying a conversation.

I play it. It is pretty fun. While the lack of chat has been annoying at times, I actually prefer it because you don't have to endure the usual multiplayer chat jackassery.

While the lack of chat jackassery is appreciated, actually talking to the people you're playing with is a huge part of the board game experience.

Also, I get the feeling that the kind of people who play Armello are, for the most part, not the sort to rage in chat. However, they do seem the sort to quit when it becomes clear they aren't going to win, which is annoying.

Just had an absolutely fantastic match. Playing my favorite character (Amber), managed to kill the King with 1 Health left as the last player in the turn order on the last night phase before the Rot killed him. Despite the best efforts of the players with River and Zosha both ambushing me while I was in the palace, AND Mercurio dropping just, SO. MANY. trickery cards. It was really one of those wins that you feel like you actually earned it, instead of just taking the Prestige Victory (which was off the table for me, anyway because that frikkin rat had like 16 Prestige).

The only thing that bums me out with Armello is how you can sometimes experience maybe two hiccups earlier in the match and find yourself outclassed or behind for the remainder. The later on your speed bumps come, the easier it is to overcome them.

A couple turns of bad luck in the early game is really hard to come back from, though it can be done.

Something else I need to work on is using peril cards. As they are, it seems like you are better off going with just about anything else. Early match it seems like trying to get equipment cards is the order of the day, and then after that the only time I use perils is when I need to make room in my deck or to plop them down on a town.

I've been playing it a little. The art is so enchanting.
