I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
so I have a level 12 sorcerer/ rogue- swiftblade gish
I know that sorcerer have few spells known so I don't want any to be wasted
I know one of my 3rd leves need to be Haste to get in to swiftblade
what i'm looking for are a couple of good offensive spells that deal like sonic or force Damage or better yet untype damage
and the rest of my spells to augment my self
oh and I do not need the second level stat boosting spells as I my GM as given me them as spell like powers each useable 10 x a day for 12 rounds
I've always like the idea of spells such as haste and stat boosting spells that boost one physical and metal abilities
My GM is also giving me 1 extra spell know of each spell level so Yay! :D
THE game main Enemies or creatures in the monster hand book
I'm choosing force and sonic spells cause of how few creature res them

Re: I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
Arcane maul is a solid level 3 spell. You can either get a +4 warhammer made of force, or you can get a line of force that bursts at the end of said line. It's a decently versatile spell, especially for a gish.

Re: I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
If your DM will allow it, get some Magic Tattoo's permanencied (the spell is Create Magic Tattoo). You get some nice bonuses (to attack, AC, saves, etc) and can even get one that gives you an extra caster level. You can have three at a time, IIRC.
EDIT: For pure damage, consider Soundlance. It does d8/caster level sonic damage (up to 10d8), and is a 3rd level spell. It's in the fireball/lightning bolt family, but only targets a single target. That said, it does good damage of a little resisted type.Last edited by Bobby Baratheon; 2016-04-06 at 01:44 AM.

Wings of Cover are a great sorcerer-only spell

Wings of Flurry is a great 4th level Force spell that deals 1d6/level (uncapped) damage in an area and dazes enemies that fail the Reflex save for half. Also, if you have the dragonblood subtype, you get +1 caster level for it.
Dimension Leap is a very good 2nd level spell.Rhymes with "Protracted."

Re: I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
Belker Claw can be fun, since you'll get up and personal quite often. SR:yes but nothing can resist its damage type
Also that spell with only verbal component that transforms you into a line of lightning, combining some damage with a short range dimension door. Lightning leap or something like that? anyhow tons of fun for a gish, especially in a sorc that can spam itLast edited by DrMartin; 2016-04-06 at 04:52 AM.

Re: I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
Fourth level, ranged touch, SR:No, can-be-chucked-into-an-antimagic-field 10d6 Orb of Force is *always* a good option for direct damage, because nothing resists Force except Forceward and miss chances (and arguably, Blink doesn't work against it). Its companion elemental variants deal 15d6 and have rider effects that can be saved against.
Combust is an extremely exploitable second-level melee touch spell; because it deals 10d8 as a second-level spell with no save, you can metamagic the ever-loving crap out of it and it can achieve higher per-spell damage than just about anything else in the game; Combust is well-known for continuing to be relevant in epic thanks to reliably hitting for literally thousands of damage with the right metamagic and a Surge of Fortune autocrit. The downsides are A. melee, B. fire damage, and C. SR:Yes, but when you absolutely must nova the living daylight out of something right the hell now, accept no substitutes.
Wings of Cover, second level, is bloody hilarious. The Gish Handbook very rightfully calls it "Power Word: No." As an immediate action, it breaks line of effect (which means Wings of Cover can tank Disjunction), gives +8AC and +4 to reflex saves against AoE damage spells, and if you're dragonblooded it can do so for adjacent allies as well. There is no reason not to have this on your list because your second level spell slots aren't used for all that much anyway, except the following.
Wraithstrike is god-tier for a gish, especially against monsters, most of whom rely on natural armor. Swift action cast, you target touch AC for the next round with all attacks. If you can persist it, permanency it, or even to a lesser extent extend it, you win, hard. Even if not, it still makes natural armor a complete non-factor. This is the only other thing that will be competing with Wings of Cover for your second-level spells (since Combust's proper use is being metamagic'd out the ass).
Celerity is always a useful pickup; action economy abuse is life, action economy abuse is love. Spend a fourth level spell slot to immediate action take a standard NOW. If you can get Daze immunity, this is brilliant. Even if not, it's a very good panic button for a wider range of situations than Wings of Cover.Last edited by AnonymousPepper; 2016-04-06 at 05:36 AM.

Re: I need help picking out spells for my sorcerer gish
Level 4: Polymorph. Turn into something with hands and a massive strength and natural armor. You suddenly now hit a hell of a lot harder, and is hell of a lot harder to hit
Level 2: Wraithstrike. Swift casting time and all your attacks for that round are touch attacks for that round. Bypass all of enemy's AC with this spell.
Level 2: Alter self. Turn into something with hands and immense natural armor (crucian or tren, +8AC). Swap it out for something else when you get Polymorph.
Level 1: Enlarge Person. Makes your weapon bigger (more damage), doubles your attack range (if you could only hit things 1 square away, now you can hit things 2 squares away).

Don't underestimate glitterdust (a 2nd level spell), either. It bypasses spell resistance and imposes a pretty useful condition (blindness) on your enemy.
