Default Posting Images of M:tG Cards

Is posting images of Magic: the Gathering cards against board rules? I'm guessing yes, but given the existence of the character art thread, I'm not really clear on where the line is drawn.

It depends on what you are doing with the picture. If you are posting a picture of the awesome hand you drew and slaughtered your opponent with, it seems the same as posting a screenshot of a game. If you are trying to settle a rules quibble, that would be like posting a capture of a rulebook. If you are posting to show the art on the card, that seems like posting a copywritten picture.

I'll leave it to a mod to tell you which, if any of those are okay.

Thinking of writing D&D stats for some M:tG cards, is what I had in mind. Don't need to post the card to go with it, obviously, but it would be nice.

You could always just link to the card.

PM me when the thread is up, I'll be curious.

You can freely link to the appropriate Gatherer page, where people can view the card's art, full rules text, and more, all on a site owned and managed by Wizards of the Coast, the copyright owner. My reading of their terms of use is that they specifically prohibit things like putting the card art directly in an [img] tag, however.
