Re: Rappan Athuk - Pathfinder Gestalt Thread IC
Kalleus' concentration was broken by the tiny fangs gnawing at the gaps in his armor, before he could glean anything useful. In desperation, he called out a quick prayer of healing, and decided to try to detect evil anyways. If he could get a bead on Marek and bring him down, maybe it would end this.
Spoiler
Swift Action: Lay on Hands self (2d6+4)[12]
Move Action: Single-target Detect Evil on Marek if possible (as per Paladin class feature - See OOC for concentration check to cast defensively)
Standard: Attack Marek if he is within reach, or else just swing at the rat swarm:

Re: Rappan Athuk - Pathfinder Gestalt Thread IC
The bloodied form of Anzor Swiftsilver rises slowly in a series of violently jerking motions. As the undead with pallid skin and bloodstained skin does so he feels the connection with his friend and companion, the tiny greensting scorpion still beside his feet and now climbing onto the halfling’s back. In the same time and space that the Halfling rises he also takes a long injury from Marek who avoids the undead creature’s first stumbling steps and the immediate attempt at violent pummeling.
The undead stumbles ahead into the space between two tombs leding to Solitaire and stad there in defense of its creator.
Trogdor removes one rat from his vicinity but is sized by the rest of the rats pouring onto him, all four of them now all over his form with clear intent of holding him still with whatever means they have.
Kalleus hits true. Though his attempt at detection falters at a crucial moment his weapon still delivers a crushing weight behind its swing and ends a rat’s life.

Tamoq let out a sigh and turned to Lise, seeing her up now. Quietly he reiterated "Please don't do such a thing. We are Marek's guests. I'm going to try and grab Kip, then drag him somewhere safer. Can you stabilize him?" Without waiting he darted into the darkness, signaling at Marek as he moved up to the larger ratfolk his intention.

With a slight nod and a whispered prayer in Aklo that Kipler pulls through and at least stabilizes, Tamoq leaves Marek after their brief exchange in the dark. He hustles back to Lise and taps her on the hand, whispering loud enough for the fellow alchemist can hear him "We will have to wait until all is done, unfortunately. Marek is understandably upset with Kipler." At least it seemed unlikely that she would anger their host with rash bomb throwing.

Re: Rappan Athuk - Pathfinder Gestalt Thread IC
Trogdor's focus is pinned under the rats: in spite of his attempt to hammer one of them off of him the barbarian nonetheless falls at the face of fury of four red-eyed rodents squirming and squealing atop him.
Nino draws his whip back and then lashes, with precision and force both behind the strike and all of it with deadly intent behind it. Whether he hits something he is unsure but certainly whatever he may have struck likely felt it. The crack of the whip resounds together with the boom of thunder above, creating an exclamation point in the sounds of the fight.
Tamoq rushes hither and tither, yet he goes unattacked by the rats who hear him yet pay little heed in an imitation of Marek who shares a few and motions with the ratfolk in the span of perhaps a second.
Something gnaws on Kalleus' upper thigh and draws blood in there right at a crucial spot.
Marek's eyes find Solitaire's form climbing on top of a tomb. Again he takes a few rapid steps toward his chosen target, the monstrous humanoid form rapidly climbing to the lid of the tomb with an unnatural agility. With that same agility and precision he then spins his daggers, eyes blazing with frothing hatred. The focus does not go without results, as the two deep gashes on Solitaire's form prove very rapidly.
The monstrous form, seeing Solitaire's form falter, turns its jaws then onto Nino, whose exposed face the humanoid takes a deep bite into, the attack coming from nowhere leaving a jagged injury behind.
The raised paladin stand still without so much as a blink to register the world. Were he able to he would feel Gargan scaling up onto his back where the scorpion takes up position guarding the halfling's back.
Malise can see that the darkness seems to be slightly receding from her location, revealing the ratfolk she knows and who likely restored her to functionality. He looks fairly well off, yet the sounds of violence continue in that depthless void.

Re: Rappan Athuk - Pathfinder Gestalt Thread IC
Here you are, at last. After a long trek on a boat, and then a walk across ashen wasteland where you found nothing edible in spite of great effort spend, and one of you even discovered fungi that proved to be a most strange experience in eating.
Your guide Nigold, who is a machine hewn from tinted metals in the shape of man with a warg beside, has offered not a word of conversation willingly and at most one-worded replies with a reluctance.
At the moment you are located at the base of a large runny hill. It is high noon, perhaps an hour or two past midday, and not only is the sun high in the sky and the winds dead still but the ground underneath you is a mixture of cold mud and something murky that keeps squishing underboot when you walk. The ruins of what might have been a house or a crude barracks lie around you telling of a raid and a plunder not long ago, but the burned husk stands not like a skeleton nailed to a wall. It is in the ruins of this structure that your guide has chosen to dig a large area, cleared it of the worst pieces of refuse and now sits beside a roaring fire that burns bright and heavy.
Up the hill of mud, directly Northwards, lies the entrance to your destination.
Rappan Athuk. The City of Graves. Where horrors dance to their whims, the lair where evil makes its home, the unassailable bastion that has laid unconquered through ages. Where the dead rise by the unnameable will of something malevolent to drag the living to join their ranks forevermore.
You read horror stories, you picked up rumors, you saw mentions - but now you are here, in a desolated wasteland, feeling the ground underneath you grow cold with every breath you draw.
What shall you do?

Tired from the trip, Briza was grateful for the cozy fire that helped ward off the unseemly chill of this place. There was not much conversation on the way, and Briza finally wanted to know more about their tight-lipped guide.
"Nigold," Briza said, "thank you for bringing us here, and thanks for this pleasant fire. Your services have been quite helpful. Tell me, how did you come to be a guide bringing travelers here to the city of graves?"

The man-formed machine's neck and spine create a faint whirr as it cranes its head in a slow arc of motion to look at Briza; it is slower still to ponder a response while staring unblinkingly with its optics reflecting the heated glow of the fire. Finally, in a voice that is neither arm nor cold yet neither between those two there comes an answer: "Ex-perien-cce."

Dolgrin ran through the numbers a few times on their journey, a frown plastered on his face for most of it. He remained silent on the reason why as he trudged along as fast as his shorter legs would let him, perhaps thankful for the guide being a man of metal as opposed to flesh and blood demanding they go faster. It was only when they built the camp that he said "Fore yah go scramblin away, I can only bind four of yah. It'll help me keep yah alive in this land and nothing else. So who'll it be?"

Then there was Draco, a rather tall man, clad head to toe in black steel with little spikes coming out in a number of directions. He almost looked to be a metal man himself, with that armor of his, kept in pristine condition despite where they where. Every now and again while they adventured there was a shudder of reality around the man as filth and grime where stripped away from the armor.
"I shall go with you." he announced in a deep voice. Shadows seemed to caress him, dancing around his armor every now and again.

True to his word, Dolgrin brings three of his comrades into his collective and grants each of them a minute or so of tougher skin. As the effect lingered he said "If yah get hurt then the real blessing of being a pa't of the Many will become cleah. course yah gotta stay bout a longbow shot away else yah get dropped n we gotta do this again." And in fact there wasn't too much to inform the members of the collective that nothing was wrong or different. Perhaps thankfully he wasn't stuck in the First World long enough to create more of a hive mind type scenario within the collective.

Re: Rappan Athuk - Pathfinder Gestalt Thread IC
It is slow going up a steep incline. The trek is slow by virtue of sharp inclination working with bare ground that is bereft of everything be it rocks or undergrowth or even weeds, a fact made worse by the constant slick mud underfoot wherein you find little purchase despite its seemingly dry condition and the endless cracks in it: the less said of the ground’s smell the better, though it is also unnaturally cold – enough that your toes feel like someone shoves snow in them.
The peak or whatever is closes to it that means a flat area is reached soon enough. And the view is befitting the surroundings.
In perfect match of the dead countryside it is surrounded by there lies a large sunken graveyard laid out in the shape of a cross, with yourselves at the north point of its long end, thus meaning all three other ends are equally far away from your. The drop is not a single one of fifty feet but rather appears to go down in a caricature of steps, each one a ten-foot-drop downwards and similar in appearance to how a hewn stair might look, at least on its egde. Everywhere you look, rather than towering above the ground the graves have sunk into depressions on the ground, and the main mausoleum that you can see, a tall building of strange green stone that shines eerily several hundred feet away located in the deepest depress that is too far to measure the depth of.
At this end – the North end that is – of the grave-littered hollow you see what appears to be a huge stone well. There are no gravestones anywhere near it.
On this level of the ground there are graves though rather distant from your position – graves seem to be everywhere in here really, except at the North end from whence they seem to set apart more than two hundred feet away.

Although it is warm midday you do not feel the warmth of the sun on your skin nor the touch of light on the ground: it is colder than the grave and a chilling breeze of wind sets upon your form, its every motion angry and almost like with an intellect it tries to bereave you of your warmth as its spindly limbs run across your body before finally dissipating.
