Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
There's no reason V's initial weight could not have been in the range for a male of his height, and for him to later (but before the scene in the prequel) have lost weight due to overstudy and lack of exercise.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
While I usually reject any "Vaarsuvius gender" thread, and I myself decided him male, I congratulate with Stu42 for the first "by the book" attempt. And for the disclaimer before explaining his theory.
So, I have to chance my opinion from "Vaarsuvius is a male" to "Vaarsuvius is an anorexic male".

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
Personally, I think there is only one way of determining V's gender. This is just my personal theory and is not intended in anyway to minimize the theories of others.
How To Determine V's Gender
- Decide on a gender.
- Tell everyone else you're right and they're idiots.
- PROFIT!

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
The application!
Hehe, I now know that his social security number is 15 and his age is 103 (younger than the legal starting age for an elf wizard).
Now all I need is wait until Haley throws him a birthday party to get the exact birthdate, and proof of address.I consider myself an author first, a GM second and a player third.
The three skill-sets are only tangentially related.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
I don't want to go through all the calculations and stuff, but...
V gave measurements in metric. The metric rules for DnD (for countries that use the metric system) are:
Size: 1m35+5d6 (for both)
Weight: male base weight = 42, female base weight = 40
weight modificator = 1d6/5 kg
So, feel free to calculate if, using the metric rules, V can be male, female, neither or both.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
So I was swimming in world of warcraft. My gnome was wearing a Robe. I swam forward, leaving the underside of the robe in glaring, unavoidable view. I saw... water.
I suspect something similar would happen with V. V is climbing up a ladder, you look up, and you just see ladder. Not even the base of V's head (the rest of which is clearly visible), but the ladder. Don't try to explain it.Last edited by ericgrau; 2008-09-11 at 02:49 PM.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
Wait, are you saying V is androgynously gay? That's disturbing.
So you see, while they're both perfectly androgynous, they're also of exactly opposite gender. And my apologies to anyone who actually understood what I just said.Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
Actually, since 4th Edition, height and weight have changed. Elves are now 5'7" to 6'0" and weigh 100 to 130 pounds. V is 4'11" and weighs 86 pounds. So clearly V is younger than (s)he should be, so therefore gender can't be estimated from average height and weight. But on the other hand, GitP is still on 3.5, technically. So I don't know.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
I think I have a theory that no one has considered yet:
V is both female and male, and reproduces acesexually, so V made a clone of V,
using acesexual reprdouction, and married his/her clone
its why V is so androgynous!
but thats only a secondary theory, my real opinion is that V is female to
help balance the male to female ratio in the party
wait, has anyone realized that since V is androgynous, that V is immune to all gender specific tropes?

If V was neither gender...What would happen if he decided to put that belt on? Would she become both genders?
I don't think I would want to look up that robe when V is in its current state. *shudders*

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
Well I love the mathematical approach to determining V's gender. However I feel V is female based on a different methodology.
- In strip 123 Haley decides to room with V as opposed to any other party member. If the party was all male there would be no reason to chose V. In fact Haley would more likely have chosen Elan to satisfy her hidden crush.
- You could also make the case that since Pompay is male V would be female. Not only would Pompay have a gender identity, but he would also be the opposite gender. I will admit that this is argument is weak.
- In strip 335 when V explains her hypotheis involving Belkar's brain, all the given examples under the "lust" catagory are female. If V was male there little worry about Belkar lusting after her.
- In strip 385 a disguised Sabine goes to a Azure City bar and starts asking V "Why are all men such pigs??" I don't know for certain but I can't imagine a women going up to a man and asking a question like that. That seems more like a women to women question. Admittedly I have little to no experience with bars, drunks, or vexed women.

Re: An alternative method of finding V's gender
Another thing that would help this argument is knowledge of Volcano naming methods. I know hurricanes switch between male and female names. Is there any rule for volcanoes? Finding the gender identity of the name Varsuvious would help immensely.
