    But that's no fun...

    I am of two minds:

First, I recognize that V's gender is AMBIGUOUS. By definition, we do not know the correct answer and thus anything posted herein is nothing but conjecture and speculation.

Second, people love to hypothesize, analyze, and backup. No matter what, the debate will go on, until the Giant declares that it is not allowed or we reach a point at which the truth is revealed.

    ...

    V's a guy.

When I worked in data entry, inputting information from magazine cards into computers, I encountered a lot of cards where the person hadn't filled in the gender. I mentally called these people "Vaarsuviuses," although for Vaarsuviuses they generally had surprisingly poor spelling.

But is being verbious a gender feature of any vaarsuvius, or a particular feature of Vaarsuvius?

I always thought of V's gender to be a girl. I say this because whenever a reply said he/his/he's when talking about V, I automatically thought, "Wrong!" and whenever I posted something to do with her, without thinking about it, I just wrote "she", so I guess, subconsciously, I think of her as a girl, without even thinking about it, if that makes sense.

Lightbulb Re: V's Gender Debate IV [Official]

V is most likely female. Sure, Haley could be okay with a man in her room if she trusts him enogh for him not to do anything and V could just be a man into other guys. But what about the children V and the husband had?

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure its impossible for them to have children if that was the case. I mean Unless they addopted... Oh, shoot I didn't think of that until now.

But her (I just grew a little more confedent that shes a female to say that) children always called her mommy, so she has to be female. I mean, unless its like that one wierd spongebob episode with Patrick as the dad and Spongebob as the mom... Oh, shoot I did it again!

Okay, so I guess it remains a mystery until Ritch decides to reveal it himself, either by saying so on a forum or revealing it in a comic (say, by giving V an art upgrade with a shirt similar to Haleys).

Vaarsuvius specifically said they were adopted.

I think that V was intended as a male, and drawn as a male (because of the body shape and facial features), but I think of her as female. I really don't know why.

You know, V's gender is the sort of thing you'd expect to impact the story, considering he's one of the major characters. I think it's very masterfully done that it has little to no impact. (For the record I tend to think of Vaarsuvius as a male)

I am of the thought that V is 'bad-ass' and that sort of thing transcends the gender lines. There is male, female and 'who-gives-a-damn-that-was-awesome-you-ROCK!'. V is V and no gender immediately pops into my head when I read the comic.

Aside from all that, my vote is female. Just because women are that awesome.

I personally always thought of V as a female, but no one can prove anything. There are no elves with a clearly defined gender to compare facial position to, and her/his kids are adopted so Kyrie is no help.

It's kind of interesting how well his gender neutrality is pulled off, and when you take a look using the medium in question, it's even more interesting. Without discernable physical features, the only thing left is mental/personality traits. Which leads to people assuming genders via sexual stereotypes, preconceptions, or the behavior of characters who are as clueless as to V's gender as WE are, none of which are very accurate.

I always imagined V's voice as being a little too deep for a female. Mostly because the mental voices i have for them haven't changed much since the first comic (except Durkon - the accent is much smoother) So i always thought of him as male.

Don't have enough time to read 46 pages of posts, but an important thing to note is that the word "gender" refers to a cultural concept while "sex" refers to the stuff between your legs. Therefore, since V's gender is always kept at neutral by the Giant in the comic, it's entirely possible that V has a neutral or non-specific gender, despite the possibility of being biologically male or female.

The answer to this puzzle is quite easy. V doesn't have a gender (at least not in a role playing world).

In a traditional, midieval european, (or most other cultures from that approximate time in the real world) V's gender is masculine. Leaves home, goes on adventures, lets the other mate take care of the children, etc.

So, I'd say that if you had to pin V down, I'd pick masculine.

As far as what his sex is... I don't have any idea.

No, that's a misunderstanding of the definitions. Humans' basically have two sexes, but depending on the culture, there could be something like 5 genders.

I read somewhere on the forums that the Giant had started V off as a single gender before the gender-ambiguosity thing came in? In one of the earlier comics Roy refers to V as the 'V-man', but maybe it was just that Roy though V was a male.

This is true out-comic. However, in-comic it seems that everyone refers to V as some gender or the other, but this is only what they think V's gender may be, not facts.

If we'd accept that V is male because most writers are male and therefore a character without secondary sex characteristics is probably meant to be male, especially when referred to as "V-man", then we'd not have anything to discuss anymore.
