Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
O_O Now that is something entirely else. It never occurred to me to use deadpan humor with that quote (and then play off the sexual tension, too) - I just went straight for the subtle-as-a-twoll kill-em-with-action approach with my demotivator.
Well played, sir. Well played.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Thanks, guys! That really means a lot to me.
I had a lot of fun with the writing, like how "Titans' toenails" just sounded right. (I don't remember that phrase in canon.) Since I don't know much about drawing, I was especially tickled by how easy it was to change their glaring into mischief: just one little line per face!
I've been meaning to ask, would there be interest in a tutorial on intermediate remix techniques like erasing speech bubbles and adding new ones? what about basic techniques like cropping, resizing and adding text?Last edited by Scientivore; 2007-07-16 at 01:58 AM.

This one's not that good, but I figure I might as well post it.
The above post made a lot more sense in my head.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Alliteration FTW. And the original line is *ahem* here.
Yes, I noticed that too. "It's the little things which make a difference sometimes", indeed.
Yes, I'd appreciate the intermediate guide, if you have the time for that sort of thing. It would go well in the Arts and Crafts forum. For my part, I should probably start by reading some of the normal guides on the GIMP or OOo Draw, instead of trying things randomly to see what works. Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
It's a good idea - I like how you clipped the text from the original Zero Wing animation (unless you found one helluva font there...). Maybe you should try laying out the image and the "text" side-by-side, like in your "Evil Personified" piece - it would look a bit less like the game, but it suits the panel's shape better.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Be advised that the following Wanda/Jillian scene remix breaks the boundaries scrupulously observed by Rob and Jamie and explicitly depicts a certain activity of consuming interest to the fans....
(I am, of course, referring to breaking the fourth wall in order to have the characters explicitly generating grist for the speculation mill. That should go without saying, really. After all, what else could I possibly have meant?)

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Heh. The Seven Deadly Sins is an interesting template. The Seven Cardinal Virtues would seem a logical follow-up, though it might be a bit harder to find appropriate frames.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
More to the point, there's a lot of variations on the theme of Virtues...
I know the Kindness, Faith, Prudence, Charity, Wisdom spiel, but that's a list of only five Virtues...
The Christian Seven tends to be Humility, Chastity, Abstinence, Diligence, Kindness, Patience, Liberality, which directly oppose the Deadly Sins.
Or there's Valour, Generosity, Humility, Kindness, Patience, Diligence, Liberality, which is different still!
And there's an eighth virture: Justice, which doesn't seem to fit in anywhere...
Edit: I'm going to take up the Christian Cardinal Virtues. Seems the most logical, as they are meant to directly counter the deadly sins...Last edited by Azukar; 2007-07-17 at 09:30 PM.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
*breaks into song*
SpoilerThe seven deadly virtues, those ghastly little traps
Oh no, milord, they were not meant for me
Those seven deadly virtues were made for other chaps,
Who love a life of failure and ennui!
Take courage- now there's a sport
An invitation to the state of rigor mort
And purity- a noble yen
And very restful every now and then~
I find humility, means to be hurt
It's not the earth the meek inherit, it's the dirt
Honesty is fatal; it should be taboo
Diligence, a fate I would hate!
If charity means giving, I give it to you
And fidelity is only for your mate
You'll never find a virtue unstatusing my quo, or making my Beelzebubble burst
Let others take the high road, I shall take the low
I cannot wait to rush in, where angels fear to go
With all those sev-en dead-ly vir-tues; free-and-happy-little-me has not... been... CURSED!
To summarize: Courage, purity, humility, dilligence, charity, honesty, fidelity- According to Mordred, anywaysLast edited by Jaguira; 2007-07-17 at 09:42 PM.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Led by Katherine Dahlsgaard, we read Aristotle and Plato, Aquinas and Augustine, the Old Testament and the Talmud, Confucius, Buddha, Lao-Tze, Bushido (the samurai code), the Koran, Benjamin Franklin, and the Upanishads—some two hundred virtue catalogues in all. To our surprise, almost every single one of these traditions flung across three thousand years and the entire face of the earth endorsed six virtues:
- Wisdom and knowledge
- Courage
- Love and humanity
- Justice
- Temperance
- Spirituality and transcendence

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Oh wow! I just found out that there've been lolbuffys since at least May 31. It's an absolute goldmine of lolmemes.
Incidentally, it's possible that we technically beat the Whedon fandoms to fanlolling by a day, thanks to jannyblue's LiveJournal version of Nom Nom Nom from May 30 that SteveMB linked after seeing FuzzyJuan's supercute version on July 1. It's also possible that someone set up the site for lolbuffys because people were already making them but I like the other possibility better.Last edited by Scientivore; 2007-07-18 at 05:51 PM.

Re: Motivators and Lolerfs (image-heavy)
Alright, dumb question. What's the 'traditional' font that appears in lolimages? Like 'o rly/ya rly' and 'i can has cheeseburger'.
Erfworld has started affecting my brain. I forgot that there was a space between o and rly.The above post made a lot more sense in my head.
