Given that the ANB everyone is talking about is an unpublished version, I suppose it doesn't have to originate anywhere. The nightmare beast from "regular" settings is nowhere near as impressive as the Athasian one, but it does exist, so yeah, you'd expect the ANB to be from elsewhere.

I believe Quartz is suggesting that the creature has seen Road Runner cartoons, expects someone being punched through a wall to leave a person-shaped hole, and imposed that expectation on reality with some form of powerful magic (or psionics).

Something akin to the Reality bending psionic power? (I think its the wish equivalent for psions). but alas I still think its more a comedic effect than any other thing, to showcase that yes, the creature is as powerful as the Lich is telling us it is.

We know for a fact it's seen Care Bears cartoons.

Okay, thanks one & all for clearing that up.

That makes sense I suppose, but the simpler explanation is that the Giant drew them for Rule of Funny reasons. No evidence to either side, so any explanation is valid at this point, I guess.

I'm not sure if anybody else mentioned but could there be a possibility that MiTd has yellow eyes is a clue? so far we've seen only a few creatures with yellow eyes, Goblins, cats (Scruffy has two different colored eyes but I have seen another cat somewhere I think) Can't think of any more examples at the moment.

MitD's eye colour was established before Rich knew what the monster was.

Well, its understandable since he couldn't use black on black to show the eyes of the creature.

Is there other monsters that have different eye coloration on cannon? out of curiosity.

He doesn't. It's just that his background eye is sufficiently small to be dominated by the pixels of its black outline when the comic is reformatted from a vector to raster graphic. It's just as yellow as his foreground eye.

but I have seen another cat somewhere I think
That'd be Jiminy's cat, which shares Mr. Scruffy's model.

That said, I don't think yellow eyes denote any one thing in particular. For example, cats have low-light vision but not darkvision, while goblins have darkvision but not low-light vision.

Sure, it's a possibility. I would consider it a plus if a creature's fluff text explicitly stated that it had yellow eyes (I think one or two examples discussed on this thread have actually had such text, but I can't be sure). Still, since that's exactly the sort of detail that The Giant would probably be fine with changing or ignoring, it would be a minor plus at best.

In particular, Larry Gardener is shown with black eyes, even though eye colors are very important for J. K. Rowling and Harry potter specifically has blue eyes.

Harry Potter is very specifically and repeatedly is described to have green eyes.

Still not surprising that coloration of any kind would be changed for a parody character though.

Harry Potter in the movies had blue eyes, because Daniel Radcliffe couldn't stand the tinted contact lenses.

That has more to do with how almost all humanoids are depicted with black eyes because, well, stick figure comic. The only exceptions I can think of are Tsukiko and Keith Baker, because of their heterochromia. I don't think this reasoning applies to monsters, let alone to a unique one.

See, that joke might be slightly clever, if the first sentence were true. In the circus scene, there was literally one person who found him beautiful and she was a woman, yes but everyone else save the goblins, was horrified or just confused.
